The third of Xbox's multiplatform efforts on PS5, Sea of Thieves, reportedly boasts superior visuals on the Sony machine. A recent analysis comparing the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions of Sea of Thieves revealed the latter pulling ahead on the graphical front.
After an endless whirlwind of rumors, Xbox announced in February that it'd be releasing four games from its first-party catalog on competitor platforms PlayStation and Nintendo, namely Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said that this move was made with Xbox's long-term health in mind, and that gamers shouldn't expect tentpole titles like Starfield and Indiana Jones to be among the ported games. So far, Xbox has released Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush on PS5, and in both cases, the PS5 port has exhibited some curious improvements over the equivalent Xbox Series X version. - Hry

My only guess is, the development teams just want to make the best experience as possible. All these people putting in labor aren't on Microsofts side. They don't worship their bosses I'm sure. PS5 may just be easier to develop for and Devs can get more performance with less work.

Optimization and development is just as important as raw power, often times even more important.
So why is a game like sea of thieves (2018) better on the ps5 when it's had 6 years on xbox? The xbox is meant to be "the most powerful" one, and it's had 6 years of optimisation but is somehow still worse?

We need a larger sample size before jumping to conclusion.There could be varying factors. For example the developer could have better tools this go around and know better on how to get more efficient. There may be an array of other factors as well. If these games were made and released for both systems at the same time that would've been a better comparison.
Linux games use to run with OpenGL like Apple did. Sony with PS5 runs on Vulkan graphics engine now. It's been noted in videos that Vulkan delivers higher frame rates than DirectX on Windows. PS5 uses the Vulkan graphics engine as well as some other Sony properties on there custom UNIX system they use on PS5. PS4 used a Linux OS and different graphics engine. However because the two graphics engines can be used on x86 x64 architecture and are fully open engines, they were universal with Linux and UNIX and thus PS4 games are backward compatible on PS5. Microsoft is being held back by staying with DirectX, however Nvidia has said the 5080 is due in a few months time.
Think anyone that has any actual knowledge of both consoles would have known that beforehand.
I sold my Xbox Series X at gamestop the week after last because i barely touch it, like i don’t really have any upcoming games to look forward to or any thats currently already out. I would be using it to watch anime on through microsoft edge web browser etc

Also after i sold my Xbox Series X to gamestop i did cash instead of store credit, which i only got like $230 for it plus extra since i sold the extra controller for it, but could have got $330 in store credit, but if i had waited for the deal where store credit is cash amount i could have gotten more money back. I used money and bought myself some beats studio pro headphones and i just have my Original Fat PS5 now.

Yeah everything is better on PC technically but with the way AAA ports on PC be like these days, you have to have a beast of a rig to get decent framerates/perfromance soo a ps5/xbox is still the more affordable way to access the games coming out these days.

Cause to have all the potencial of series x companies needs more time, so time that MS wont allowed even for it first party exclusives like Sony does plus devs already say PS5 is overall a better console.
The graphics are more powerful when it comes to DirectX vs DirectX. However Vulkan graphics engine of Linux is better than DirectX 12 in that the Vulkan engine delivers better frame rate and more detail. So overall it's Linux and UNIX structure of graphical code with Vulkan that is beating DirectX 12 of Windows. PS5 runs on a custom Sony made UNIX system that runs with Vulkan graphics engine used for games. As we've seen here and tons of other videos Vulkan runs better frame rates along with better graphical detail.
360 had a better GPU than PS3, yet no 360 game looked anywhere close to Killzone 2, Uncharted, or The Last of Us.
@@hotpockets69 Developers that actually took the time and used the cell processor engine of graphics core to core to core ended up with great games. It's actually in record history that back then the US Army used PS3s in some testing architectures!

We've all been saying it for a long time but it's because of the series s.
Third party Developers need to optimize for one system on PlayStation but two for Xbox meaning there is less effort put into optimizing for the two systems individually on xbox's side.
This makes little sense. Are you saying that when the PS5 Pro comes out, PS5 Pro performance will suffer.
I watched DF video and no way did he say it ran better on ps5 if anything he never tried 120 hz on the ps5 so we will see if it runs better on 120 hz when it comes out. I played sea of thieves on ps5 with 120 hz and it was running great so we will see
Watch it again. Oliver clearly states a few times the PS5 version has the advantage. Same with Ghostwire Tokyo, HiFi Rush, Pentiment (briefly, the series version was bugged since launch but recently patched) and probably Grounded whenever they do that video.
They have to kneecap their games for Xbox Series S, multiple developers have been complaining about it since 2021 or 2022 and it's just going to get worse the further into the generation we get. Also the PS5 has unified memory, whereas the Xbox Series S and X's is split, so it's harder for developers to manage memory usage on Xbox Series.
It's like a much lesser version of PS3 vs. Xbox 360. PS3 was technically the same speed or faster depending on the workload, but the Xbox 360 was a lot easier to develop for.

Its very easy to understand why they are better on PS5. The PS5 gets the newer optimised build of the games, on xbox they are older builds because they are old games. As Pentiment showed, the xbox versions just need to be updated to the latest build to match the PS5 version. It's nothing to do with hardware.

As I understand it, the difference in memory between XSS and XSX is what is causing all these challenges that we see on the Xbox side. The PS5 Pro will have the same memory size as the regular PS5 so I don’t foresee any issues. Also, the fact that XSS is iirc 80% of the Xbox current gen market, it is the defacto “new gen” console devs develop for, not the XSX.

The fact is devs have to develop with that albatross around their neck, so they are hamstrung right out of the gate.
Now that the games are being ported to the PlayStation, the shortcomings are being exposed.
Well developers are also still developing games for the ps4 and xbox one as well. So the series s is not the problem by any means.

So yea, the games will run better on current gen. But developers are still finding means between current and last gen. That's why a lot of customers are irritated at current gen games because developers aren't making that full commitment to current gen.

Series S was a mistake and the results are coming out now.

But by no means was the series s a mistake from a consumer standpoint. Especially when most games are released for ps4/xbox one anyways. It's the most affordable current gen console by far, it looks just as good and runs just as well as the ps5 and xbox series x, you pair the affordable with gamepass and xbox's impressive emulation technology and you have the best value in gaming hands down. And since most developers create games on outdated software, and are still learning the unreal engine 5 software, you can completely argue that owners of xbox series s consoles are for sure the real winners in today's gaming climate as it stands
Whats happening to console is the same thing that happened to physical disk. Wake up folks. Buy the disk have to download the remaining of the files. Buy a console all of their exclusive can be obtained eles where. Thats by designed where you will say.. whats the point.. the minute you do its to late. Then will fall into cloud streaming. With a great price tag behind it and we consumers will be blind and fall for it. To then say how did we get here. Last I checked. Instant gaming before the slogan for streaming was popping in your physical disk and Instantly playing. Now the attack is on console. Series X has full rdna 2, which means it can run windows, Linux and ps3 emulators. Ps5 snipped out those bits for Specialization. Its just a most focused machine.

Ps5 just supports 8tb max hdd storage while xbox tested with 14tb as hdd storage, so more games for 3rd party game.

To released a game on Xbox they have to make the game run on the Series S and because of that it effects the Series X, making the game run worse too.
On the PlayStation, developers only havd to make one version of the game and they can optmize the game better.

Coming at this now, Grounded seems to be the exception as it runs worse on PS5 (not sure about PS4 Vs. Xbone versions tbh) but yeah the other games, Pentiment/Hi-Fi Rush/Sea Of Theives are all better on PS5 compared too Xbox Series X|S 😅
I don't really care too much overall as someone who owns all Consoles from the "Big 3" Manufacturers, but this is pretty embarrassing and as a PlayStation guy primarily I'm going to play them there regardless 🤷♂️
Edit: Sea Of Thieves is also a really cool/interesting game as it's the FIRST time that Rare has actually released a game on PlayStation Hardware and Sony themselves apparently has been working/assisting heavily with Rare on the SoT PS5 Port.

The parity policy for Xbox does not help: I.E. a game dev for xbox MUST run on Series S as well as Series X. I think there is something in the hardware development or the Software Development of the Xbox that is at the root of this. I think Microsoft knows of it, and haven't been able to overcome it.

Compare Fallout 76 on Xbox Series X and PS5. PS5 runs it better. At least on my TV Xbox has serious stuttering and linear motion issues where PS5 is buttery smooth.

Honestly the differences are pretty minor! If the game that I want comes on one console and not the other I'll not wait for it release for the one that didn't get it first! Still even if it's not gonna be noticed by most this kind of comparison look Xbox really looks weak, don't know what MS is doing with their software! Still when you see that the shadow in Hi-Fi Rush on a top tier PC is worse than on PS5 it raises questions of MS only upgrading the code for PS5 and didn't bother with the original platforms?!
Stop saying Redfall is 30fps only, it was already upgraded 6 months ago to support 60fps ( not talking about the quality of the game!)

The main reason is that devs spent time optimizing on the playstation version of the game. Thats it.
You havent seen it the other way around. And your talking about ganes that arent that hard to run or that extreme in the first place. Nothjng is holding the xbox back. The s doesnt stop it. Its Microsofts philosophy to have all games play exactly identical on all hardware that allows it to play. Alot of the stuff your talking about outside the fps people dont notice esp if they are sitting 20 feet away from their tv. A definitive edition of a game would be the version that has all the bells and whistles like actual extras not 5 to 10 frames difference.
I think the Games run better on PS5 due to Sony's "Outside the Box" approach to all of its custom Hardware architecture, which I think will be evident again with the soon-to-be-released PS5 Pro...E.G.... a CPU friendly patented version of their Hardware Ray tracing acceleration, along with their own Hardware Based machine learning...aka...PSSR, that will surprise people, and make it hit above its Apparent weight class. Day 1 Purchase for Me!

These are newer builds for PlayStation..which is great... And although hifi and sot had a little better shadows...the performance and crashing isnt good atm (sot)... also...the SS is nice and affordable and all but hope its not holding the sx back...i know some hate to hear that!..since the ps5 and sx are near identical there should be no graphical/performance differences...unless the ss-sx parity clause is affecting the optimal build for xbox. Im curios if xbox will reconsider this next generation. Probably should . Just do regular and have a digital and disk version
