- I last saw Nish at his "En Root" stall at the "Vegan Life Live" event which last took place at the world famous Alexandra Palace. Since that event Nish has opened up 2 shops, so it seemed appropriate that I should catch up with him at his Peckham shop.
There are so many food choices on the restaurant menu; so I decided to have a "Build Your Own Thali" consisting of:
* Rainbow Salad with sprouted Mung Beans
* Avocado (sprinkled with a Salt & Smoked Paprika mix)
* Pickled Cabbage
* Vegan Cucumber Raita
* Jerk Plantain Curry mix with Kidney Beans and Mushrooms
* Paratha
* Curried Chickpeas
* Rice (South India Matta Rice made Golden with Turmeric)
* Veg Curry
* Chana Dal & Red Split Lentils with Courgettes & Plantain
* Saag Aloo (Spinach & Potato Curry)
* Sambar (Gujarati Dal)
* Raja Bonnet Sauce (made in house using Scotch Bonnet Peppers)
Garnished with freshly chopped Coriander
The restaurant is inspired by beautiful Mother India, we truly love a place such as this, a pure vegetarian "Desi" Gujarati restaurant with South London and international influences, serving up healthy vegan food on their menu, healthy because minimal oil is used.
Other Indian Street Food dishes seen being made in this video are:
PANI PURI:
* Puris (Hollow Wheat-flour balls)
Filled with:
* Beetroot, ChickPea, Pomegranate Seed & Red Onion mix
* Date & Tamarind Water sweetened with Jaggery
RAJA WRAP:
* Tortilla Flatbread
* Rainbow Salad
* Avocado
* Daily Dal
* Oven Baked Pakoras
* Homemade Vegan Mayonaise
* Raja Bonnet Sauce
After being wrapped the wrap is toasted & sealed on the griddle.
To help it all go down smoothly they serve various fresh juices such as the one you seen being prepared in this video called "Pineapple Shine" containing Pineapple, Oranges, Carrots, Fresh Turmeric, Fresh Ginger.
RUM ON SHINE ("DESI DARU")
* Made with Market Row Rum
* Indian Tonic Water
* Squeeze of Lime Juice
To make the "Desi" experience complete they serve up fresh green Coconut Water (and, when they're in season: Indian Alphonso / Hapus mangos)

All of their dishes have the option of topping with freshly sliced Avocado .
En Root also manufacture their own Hot Scotch Bonnet Sauce called "Raja Bonnet Sauce" which is sweetened with Mango and Dates.
It's fascinating, the fact that Nish even though born in Tooting, South London with East African born Gujarati Parents "is still attached to the soil" by not forgetting and in fact embracing his Indian roots & culture. Nish even has a tattoo of Lord Ganesh (Elephant God) who is the remover of obstacles.
En Root "Plant Powered Goodness" address is: 28 Peckham Rye, London SE15 4JR

BEST combination! Indian + Healthy......
👍🏼 🙏🏽
It all looks great. What happens if he has a lunch rush? It’s madness trying to lift those lids and fill the tiny cups. I’ve been a chef for a long time, and short ticket times is important. Best Regards sir.
AS a chef you would also know you can scale all that up. All of them cooked and going on heat and just fill the cups up, ticket time will be faster than you can blink.
Indian mangoes are indeed the best of the best

This looks like a British-Indian thali.
Can I know which date you caught COVID? I want to do some detective work on which restaurant you visited before that. 😜 So happy you're ok though!
Yes, it's a genuine British-Indian influenced thali. The owner (Nish) was born in South London with Indian parents.
For your "investigations":
* I started feeling the symptoms late in the day on Monday 4th July / and 5th July.
* I was feeling the full effect of covid on 6th July & tested positive.
Prior to testing positive:
*** Friday 1st July: I went to the "Just V Show" (it took place indoors at Excel) it was quite busy and there was no social distancing with lots of free tasting samples being enjoyed by visitors (including myself).
*** Saturday 2nd July - i visited 2 outdoor markets, Parliament Farmers Market (i ate Goyoza there) + Nags Head Car Boot Market in Holloway didn't eat anything else (i ate at home)
Before i visited just v show, i had not really eaten out for at least 2 weeks (which was a falafel wrap from Falafel bar in Finchley).
@@mr07623445678 It kinda makes sense someone like you would get it because as a food lover, your sense of smell is always more active than others. Smell works by breathing in which is how the COVID finds its way too.
Most times when I felt COVID was upon me was after going through a busy aisle of the supermarket. As soon as I got home, I'd eat a whole orange. But as I said, I must have long-covid symptoms because my sense of smell & taste have greatly diminished.
@@Ash_G - You're quite, it was inevitable that i would catch it. At the Just V Show, i admit that i threw caution to the wind and was not my usual careful & cautious self.
i feel exactly the same as you when in supermarkets, we try to go to the supermarket at quiet times.
You're right about oranges, at the height of my infection symptoms my missus squeezed some freshly squeezed orange juice, as soon as i tasted it, my body told me it was exactly what my body needed.
i do hope you fully recover & fully regain your sense of smell & taste.
@@mr07623445678 i am investigating "blocked nose" as to loss or reduction of sense of smell and taste.
But don't quote me on this. It could be a too simplistic explanation of what is affecting me. But it makes sense in my head. My body is still in a defensive mode and decided that quickly re-blocking my nose would be best defense (much like mask wearing). 😫
I like your "blocked nose" theory.
It does make sense, because my wife & myself have been producing more phlegm, occasionally. The body's self defense system can be quite powerful & unknown...
Bro, you have not been to India,,,its another world ,mate ,,tell him ,,,,he will see Brixton everywhere in india
