My essential tremor is greatly exasperated by anxiety, I have developed severe social anxiety because of it. I shake from head to toe with even the smallest amount of anxiety and it has caused me to avoid everything. I am currently off work on mental health leave and I feel at this point I don't know if I can ever go back. I take metoprolol(gave up propranolol because it caused hair loss). Also, the doctor has prescribed me lexapro, which so far is doing nothing for my anxiety, and it's making my tremors worse.

Is anxiety induced tremors same as ET ?
Not quite. Although people with essential tremour will have exacerbated symptoms when anxious. If you have excessive tremour during anxiety, you may have it.

typically 20 mg is enough to use for stressful situations
Primidone worked wonderfully well for me at pediatric dose level. But I did develop a little tolerance to the drug after about 10 days. After a month, it is still about 80% effective.
A special scan of the thalamus is available to rule out a Parkinson's component.
you are probably referring to DaTScan for Parkinson Disease. It is a scan for Striatum (putamen and head of caudate)

find someone to talk to about this. does not have to be everybody in the family.
Early onset tremors (in 8-9 grade of age) is often (but not always) familial essential tremor that often run in families. ask someone who knew family members very well.
For mild tremors, treatment is not often needed. usually the worsening is related to stress of situations and reducing or calming stress can help. for unavoidable stressful situations, sometimes as needed medications are enough such as propranolol. A good neurologist assessment would be the best place to start. there are treatable causes for tremors that can be cured (sometimes as simple as a vitamin deficiency like B12 but others too or simple endocrine (hormone) deficiencies).

usually low dose propranolol as needed before the social situations works very well in general.
How about we find a CURE and understand WHY and HOW? These medications are not designed for us. Its absolute awful that we are in 2024 with no understanding how this happens to us.

You need to pronounce the words more clearly or spell them out. I"m not sure I got any of them right. Propranolol came up on my screen so i know I got it wrong. The other two are still a mystery. Somebody in the comments mentions Primidone. Is that correct?

i did slow the playback so i can hear words better, you can do that it will be more clear, i guess doctor is talking fast.. he is used it to it, but its for us difficult coz we dont know medication name.. thank u doctor for yr great help any way🌹

some causes of head tremor can be cured but most of the head tremor is due to microscopic changes in brain networks and can be suppressed but not fully cured.

@@chetanrs not exactly stroke but similar, scar tissue due to loss of blood flow to small areas.

@@zalimyt5759 Yes that was mthe first thing that calmed down my facial tremor didnt go until 7.5mg went to 10 mg that stopped almost all of it but started to get some sides of numb fingers ect, talking to my doc on mon about putting in low dose Primidode . I am worse with a bit of stress . Good luck and all the best from the UK
