Hello did the vengeance ram work when you added it, I haven’t upgraded nothing yet nor the motherboard but i want to upgrade the ram and Storage any advice bro?
You would need to go into the BIOS and enable a faster speed (3200, 3600 etc.) otherwise the ram will just boot and run at whatever the 'default' speed is. Default speed for DDR4 is 2133mhz. That's what the ram is running at because you didn't enable a faster speed. This is true for ANY ram kit, and ANY motherboard. Even a $1000 extreme overclocking motherboard won't run the ram faster than the default 2133mhz unless you go in and manually select a faster speed and enable it. It will never run at the 3600 speed listed on the box without you manually enabling that speed in the BIOS. Given that this is a ryzen CPU, which are very ram timing sensitive, you are probably really hurting the performance by just running it at 2133 when the motherboard will support up to 3200mhz. Edit: I was finally able to get one of these TG01-0023W. Turns out it uses a proprietary BIOS from HP and you can't actually adjust the ram speed from within the BIOS. So yeah, will need to use Ryzen Master to enable faster ram speeds.

Yes, you could that. It would probably not be all that stable if you wanted to get the full 3600Mhz. I would suggest getting a new motherboard that accepts that 3600Mhz without ryzen master.

@@cbdn60 understood, and not really any cables to remove. I unplugged the light bar on the front because it annoyed me. The front USB ports are what I took extra caution with not to damage.
Without overclocking the ram I had to go to crucial (they made the ram that was in my computer that HP put in there) and get my ram from them since HP in the TG01 gaming computers doesn't use xmp and the memory has to be 1.2 volts. If you get the memory their site says matches your computer it will run at 3200 mhz without having to overclock anything.
Ik im late but do you know a budget ram price? Cause i still need to buy it then that 498 out of my pocket and i have about 12 dollars left but I might get more soon
Samsung, Hynix, or Micron ram that is PC4-2666v (CL19) will likely work. On ebay ~$12 will likely get you a 4gb stick (giving you dual channel) until you can afford to upgrade.
@@PortzTech I got this desktop today and I'm very excited I need to know is it a good PC? Does it run games well? What exactly does upgrading the ram do? I'm sorry I'm just completely void of any knowledge when it comes to PCs. Should I get a graphics card or any sort of upgrade or is it fine the way it is? Sorry lol
Yes, it should be. Pop them out and pop the new ones in. If it does not boot then swap the old ones back in and it will work fine. Just make sure you get the ram specs right
Make sure there isn’t any power to it, so nothing gets ruined. Unplug it from the wall. Also, make sure to ground yourself to get rid of any possible static discharge. Like touch a piece of metal to make sure there isn’t any static electricity that you could transfer to any pc components. It’s rare that would ever happen, but never hurts to be safe
So after installing the ram and reassembling, I just plug in and it’s ready to go? This is my first PC that I plan to actually upgrade myself, so I’m a noob.
Yes, just turn it on and you should be good to go. You'll know if it doesn't work because your PC will not boot up. If that happens just install the old ram and you're fine. Make sure its the right ram for your pc spec wise.
@@PortzTech quick question can I buy the same ram stick that’s already in the pc and just put it in along with the one that’s already in to combine them and make it 16 gbs of ram. (I have the same pc)
I noticed there is a second slot just next to the one you used. Could you add a second RAM there? ie. another 16gb for 32 gb total? or would you run into limitations w/ the motherboard? Thank you!
Yes, you could just throw another stock of ram in there and it would work. If you do it that way. Pull the first stick out, get the part number, and buy the same one then just stick it back in. That would be the simplest way to get more ram and not have to worry about any complications or compatibility issues. Just make sure it’s ddr4. Let me know if you have any other questions
@@PortzTech I appreciate that answer! I actually did have another question: It didn't seem to bother you that the clockspeed was limited by the motherboard. Is this because the benefit of having an additional 8gb of RAM outweighs the potential drawback of a decreased clockspeed? I am looking into upgrading my RAM and can't seem to find the stock RAM stick available, so I'm sure HP's motherboard will put a limit on whatever I put in.
@@66Chapa I chose to upgrade ram, it has a higher clock speed. The hp motherboard does hold it back. I plan on swapping motherboards eventually so I didn’t mind. Depending your application more ram is nice. Fast speeds are great, but if you only have 8gbs and something requires 16gb you’ll want the gbs over speed. Sorry, for the long response time I’ve been on vacation and got caught up with work
Not being picky but you should of mentioned that ram will only go in the slot a certain way, if you try to put it in the wrong way the notch in the middle won't line up and if you force it it will damage something
Apologies if this was already answered in comments, but I have a few questions (bit long, TL;DR at end) 1) Initially I was set on getting 32GB of Ram for this PC. I plan on keeping everything stock as I’m not experienced enough to mess with the motherboard or any overclocked settings. Is 32GB overkill for productivity and multitasking? So far I’m satisfied with the gaming performance with the stock 8GB. I’d just want to run probably a single game, Spotify, Discord, and a web browser at MOST without stressing the unit. And not that often. Maybe some basic audio production in the future using a DAW. 2) If 16GB is better, which would not require any overclocking or motherboard mods: 2666MHz or 3200MHz? 3) Lastly, if the single stock stick inside is already 8GB, then should I just buy a single 8GB stick to get my 16GB? Is there a page in the Control Panel somewhere that tells me the exact specs of the stock stick so I could potentially match it? Here are the sticks I’m currently eyeing for reference: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz (PC4-21300) C16 Memory Kit - Black www.amazon.com/dp/B0123ZC44Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_ZQF54P6V4A4X0AXQ6KC6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 TL;DR version: What is the max amount of RAM that someone could add for productivity speed that requires NO future overclocking or mods to the motherboard otherwise. I want no risk of bricking something and am new to this lol.
1.) 32gb is supported according to hp website. It may be somewhat overkill, but that's okay if you want it. 2.) Either way with most ram you get you'll have to overclock or it'll downclock the speed. You can always swap motherboards to fix this in the future. 3.) You could get the same exact stick. Download a software to detect your computers hardware, or just pull the stick of ram out and search the part number up support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06693646
@@PortzTech thank you for the response! I’ll have to search around and see which RAM speed is able to be overclocked without swapping the motherboard. I’d like to keep that stock. Your tutorials are very well done and concise, I was able to add an internal SSD without any experience thanks to your video! RAM is next and I’ll be done.
Sadly not, it clocked it down to 2100Mhz. In the bios it see it as 3600Mhz. It may also have something to do with it being dual channel instead of single channel
@@PortzTech you can get it back to 2666 MHz with Ryzen Master, but I wouldn’t go any further than that unless you’re prepared to deal with an unstable system.
@@PortzTech So what ram sticks would you recommend? Looking to upgrade the stock ram but would prefer not to overclock or anything. thanks for the video!
I got mine up to 3200. If you use CPU-Z you can see all the timings in the XMP profile. Then you use Ryzen Master with only memory overclocking and match up the timings to the XMP ones. They mostly go across in a row rather than a column but it takes a minute to translate which is which. I have 3200 in CL16 working great.
Yes and no. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I would say most of the time it works, but can not guarantee it all the time. It has worked for me in the past though
Ik I'm very late, but for the ram I'm pretty sure it need to be the same mhrtz, clock speed, same amount of gb, and dual channel. I'm mot sure if it needs to be the same brand.
Useful message. I gave a "like", but presentation needs a lot of work. Please pay more attention to your sound levels so they're uniform across the entire video. "This thing" is not an adequate descriptions of what you're pointing to, especially if your hand is covering the view of the camera. Also, learn to record the screen. And when adding or replacing the existing RAM, a little info about checking and adjusting RAM speed in the BIOS would be helpful.
When reattaching the front panel for anyone having trouble make sure the wires to the light or w/e aren’t blocking the holes I sat there wondering why it wouldn’t go in the wire was being smashed into the hole where the front panels poles go into
The stock RAM speed of my original 8G stick is 2666 Mhz. Did you say the computer backed your new ram speed down lower than that? Thanks for the videos.
It lowered my ram clock speed. You’ll need to get pretty much a identical stick of ram to what’s in it, for it to not do that. I plan on swapping the motherboard so it didn’t matter for me. You can also use ryzen master to overclock your ram

Do you think overclocking the memory using ryzen master works similar to xmp? I have a 3600mz ballistic ram
Yes, you could that. It would probably not be all that stable if you wanted to get the full 3600Mhz. I would suggest getting a new motherboard that accepts that 3600Mhz without ryzen master.

I recently just upgraded the ram, and it’s slower than the speed I ordered 3200 megahertz, is there anyway I could get the ram to run at that speed ?
Yea, you would have to use Ryzen master and clock it faster
Without overclocking the ram I had to go to crucial (they made the ram that was in my computer that HP put in there) and get my ram from them since HP in the TG01 gaming computers doesn't use xmp and the memory has to be 1.2 volts. If you get the memory their site says matches your computer it will run at 3200 mhz without having to overclock anything.

Yes check that your pc is also fully turned off
@@User-xp4kl that’s correct! Thanks, for helping!

What were the benchmarks with the original ram? 🤔
@@BoltRM I have a video on it, it was a slight increase overall
Apologies if this was already answered in comments, but I have a few questions (bit long, TL;DR at end)
1) Initially I was set on getting 32GB of Ram for this PC.
Here are the sticks I’m currently eyeing for reference: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz (PC4-21300) C16 Memory Kit - Black www.amazon.com/dp/B0123ZC44Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_ZQF54P6V4A4X0AXQ6KC6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
TL;DR version: What is the max amount of RAM that someone could add for productivity speed that requires NO future overclocking or mods to the motherboard otherwise.
Download a software to detect your computers hardware, or just pull the stick of ram out and search the part number up
support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06693646
@@PortzTech thank you for the response! I’ll have to search around and see which RAM speed is able to be overclocked without swapping the motherboard. I’d like to keep that stock. Your tutorials are very well done and concise, I was able to add an internal SSD without any experience thanks to your video! RAM is next and I’ll be done.
@@radiogonzo94 Just let me know if you have questions
Are you running at 3200 MHz in task manager after the upgrade?
Sadly not, it clocked it down to 2100Mhz. In the bios it see it as 3600Mhz. It may also have something to do with it being dual channel instead of single channel

These should all work with what was in the PC in the video. Make sure to check it works and is what you want for your pc. Just general stuff that will work for you. I prefer Gigabyte, MSI, and ASUS motherboards more than the Asrock stuff. EVGA makes great power supplies just make sure its 80+ with whatever brand you get. Any case will work as long as it says the atx size or whatever size your motherboard is. ATX is like the general size most motherboards are and the standard size in the PC world. So if the case says it fits atx, your motherboard will most likely fit.
