- Ride along for the Modern A class of the Sunshine Vintage MX series. My 2001 XR doesn't quite fit in to any of their vintage classes so I have to race it against the new bikes.

Ya buddy!!! That is how it's done. So crazy seeing a BRP ripping a motocross track.
My buddy races at glen helen once a month and brings his old dual sport as a back up if anything happens to his 450. A few times he ended up racing it. Hilarious seeing him use signals around corners and honking at people.
IT,s funny😂
As a owner of a Xr650R for 12 years now, that was F'n awesome! Good job man!
Just goes to show. You don't need the gear to have the right idea. You Sir are a beast.
when my buddies on thier 450s and 2 strokes look back and see my 1984 xl600r right behind them they just shake thier heads and let me pass......the best is using the blinka on the trails...then going and watch evryone load thier bikes up ....as i ride home on the roads!!lol....ride what makes ya happy!!1 ride safe everyone.braaaaaaaaaaaaaap
Hell yeah! It's awesome seeing someone rip the 650r on a motorcross track.
I'm a little late to the party here, but GREAT job! Hilarious seeing your bike's headlight out there.
Sounds tame here but you feel the exhaust of a 650r in your chest. It's a whole different type of power delivery. That's why I bought one :)
What the CR500 put out for two strokes the 650R did for four. The CR could beat it in a desert race, barely, but it was 50/50 if the engine would blow on the CR doing it. The XR would keep tractoring all the way to Tierra del Fuego, no problem.
I don’t get how this bike has a reputation of being underpowered and super heavy. Yes it’s heavier than a modern 450 motocross bike. Anyone that says it’s underpowered or a big heavy slug hasn’t ridden one and probably isn’t strong enough to kick one over. There isn’t a motocross bike that will compete with this thing in open terrain. Honda doesn’t make anything like it today. It beat open class trophy trucks in the Baja 1000. It’s just getting warmed up at 70mph. I rode a new crf450x back to back today with the xr650r. The xr650R had an opened air box and a new XRs only pipe on it and there isn’t even a comparison. One is a super awesome modern and balanced trail bike and one is the greatest dirt bike ever made which I’m not even able to touch half its abilities.
You make this bike shine.
Your videos have sold me on these old bikes and im now in the market for one. Thank you for the enjoyable content
Stupid honda should have these 650s new
Be prepared to kick! It can be a challenge. If done wrong it's flooded mine is
I love the sound of torque!
Brother, great job manhandling that bike. No doubt you are in good shape!
Cool man keep it up. I stick with hare scrambles on my 600r. Moto tracks are always fun to change it up once in awhile.
Nice buddy! I pull some of those at Glen Helen too! It’s got a super long straight then a wide open talladega right turn. All it take is keep that right hand turned until it stops! Then hang on for the ride! ✊
Gotta love pulling the hole shot at barely over idle on a near 20 year old bike. Apparently pigs do fly. I don't race, but I'll probably never sell my XR. I don't really do much single track on it anymore either though, not after trying to keep up with guys 15 years younger than me on 250 and 300 two stroke woods bikes. There's still nothing like the big XR in open country though, at least not that I've ridden.
That's a heavy bike bad ass none the less that dude can ride good job bro
Hahahahaha, nice work fella!!
Love your style!
When Pigs Fly...Love it!!!
Just a perfect bike
1:20 yeah!!!
That's the Fastest a BRP has gone on a MX Track - that's fore sure! 👍🇺🇸🍻
It’s a Stirling effort for sure, but the fastest a Xr650r has been on a mx track would have to Michael Byrne 2000 thumpernats series championship. Skinny kid on a 60hp berm slayer
@@jimgoose5373 Ahh Yes! The Aussie Thumper-Nats - I remember Glen Bell on the Ballard's XR's Only XR600r Special, I'd forgotten about Michael Byrne on the BRP 650r The Thumpers was a Great Series, But the release of the Yamaha YZ400f in 1998 Kind of Killed the Idea of Racing 'Modded' 4 Stroke Thumpers, I Don't think anything else would be Competitive against the Newer Generation of Light Weight High Strung MX 4 Bangers, I wish they'd bring back a VMX Thumper-Nats for Pre 1997 Bikes- Cheers👍🍻
Very good ! Is your rear wheel 18 or 19 inches ?
Lol i never think that my red pig could get in a cross circuit! you are crazy!!!!
BRP close to the top all decades long 🤙
You are fast. Most of us could never do that on a bike that heavy with inferior suspension, heavy weight, etc., against a modern motocross bike.
It s big performance. Congratulations
Absolute weapon on the pig
Why did you have to pull on Tickle #20 like that? Hahaha love it. I race 01cr250 great enjoyment spanking new bikes!!!
now that you have drive a lot the 650r... which is your favorite bike of all your collection?
You down with BRP? Yeah you know me!
So savage
wow... the XR still impreses
Nice ride. Not bad for a 20 year old design that MSRP'd for $5000. How humiliating for the other riders that are on the fastest gas bikes yet produced.
what are your shocks setup like?
Bought mine new in 2001, destroyed the bump stop, lol.
So much for letting them go
Lol I know. I did in another moto though. I'll post that video soon.
That looked like fun for about 2 laps before that beast beat the crap out of you lol
Have you done any suspension mods for the moto track? I am going to try this soon
Nothing
Спасибо мужик теперь я точно знаю что куплю хр650р, очень круто проехал 👍
XR is the best 💪
It is mind blowing to see a big red pig hole shot a motocross race.
Dude this was crazy to watch. An old 650r racing against new 450s and pulling the holeshot. Let alone muscling triples like they are nothing. Put some better forks and suspsension on that thing and it will fly
You people realize... When you're behind that thumper.. rocks will tear you to the Bone
Fkcing holeshot bro wow
The no power is one thing bu 100 pounds heavier ? that's a lot !
What do you mean no power?
@@crooney82 XR650 is a gutless tank.
@@ExploringCabinsandMines the xr650L is a gutless tank the xr650R won the Baja 1000 on the trot year after year after year and is not remotely gutless in any way. Corked up by California it’s not super powerful. You’ve never ridden one for sure if you’re saying it’s gutless.
@@crooney82 OK buddy clearly it's better that's why everyone has one , who wants a 450 that's 60 pounds lighter anyway, what was I thinking 🤔
@@crooney82 it's a great trail bike at best .
I guarantee if you was taking the outside of the curves you would have been a lot faster rather than having to get that beast almost stoping in tight curves and having to get it going again from almost a stop was killing you as far as racing the clock. Those bike are hard to throw around in tight woods let alone man handling it on a cut up track but you still did perty good but try the outside of the curves next time
Dude, shut up.
Funny the bike isn't even working
Definitely not a junk bike. Maybe buy something different and race that and be happy. Bad tradesmen blame their tools.
Lol. Beat it clown.
@@fastguysslowbikes ???
The older bikes are objectively worse. A good rider can make up for that to a certain extent, but when it comes to racing the 90% rider 10% bike saying goes out the window. If the riders were all outside of 10% variation in skill, there wouldn't be much of a contest. The fact that he can keep up with the new bikes at all shows exceptional skill, but winning races with a 300lb+ bike is gonna be a tall order against the 450s with similar power, way less weight, and better suspension.
All that said, fuck the new bikes. I'll stick with my air cooled junk until they rip it from my cold, dead hands.
@@Megakoolguy357 ya he's commenting on the part in the video where I said my friend cash wasn't going to keep up on that old old junk. That old junk is my 1988 that I offered to let him race. It was barely running and barely stopping. She's worn out.
@@Megakoolguy357 i agree, except ease of living with the bike, maintenance and reliability. New bikes, in order to make all the power they have and stay lightweight, give up oil capacity, durable materials in the engines, easily adjustable valves and so on. In that respect they are much much worse. I will never own a newer bike
