  • This canyon is a very popular canyon and for good reason, it is simply stunning! It is easy to get into to, has a number of abseils, some of which can be skipped by climbing around, and some of the most stunning high, ferny, green canyon walls you will ever come across.
We left one car near our exit at Range Hill Fire trail, and another vehicle at Pierces Pass turnoff to save a long walk back along Bells line at the end.
The entry track in is very well-defined and not hard to follow at all. The feeder creek we followed was super slippery, boots in a lot of places gave no real grip and perhaps one of us ended up on their butt, wondering how they went from vertical to horizontal so quickly.
After the main two abseils, you drop into a pool and just to your left, Corkscrew Canyon finishes. Many people go for a short wander up into the bottom sections.
When we shot this vide, the water in places was just ankle deep, a couple of weeks later, a chest deep wade in the same place!
The canyon varies but for the most part is just stunning steep sided walls covered in green ferns. There are a number of places with coachwood forests on sand flats, one of which we stopped and had lunch.
There are a few more abseils before you meet up with Hobnail Canyon coming in on your right, a lot of people also explore the bottom sections of this canyon, but trust us, it is worth doing, we will put a link in the video to that canyon trip through Hobnail Canyon.
A few hundred metres and one final cold swim later, and you are at the exit.
The exit has some fixed hand line scrambles, a tunnel climb, then two options for the final ascent, a challenging fixed hand line ascent which we show, or, further around, a steep scramble. From there, it is a gradual uphill back to Range Hill fire trail and back to Bells Line and your car.

Agreed, this is a spectacular canyon adventure. Experience is a must with the many abseils and cold water. But, if you have the skills, the adventure is one to remember.

Wow. That was beautiful. Even though the Blueys are so familiar to me, they still amaze me how you can have your standard, dry scrubby bush, then you turn the corner or drop down a few metres, and it is the most lush and prehistoric terrain. You can't get tired of it.
We have a walk on our street called Water Nymphs Dell. I have been halfway down but turned back because I had the wrong footwear for how wet it was. It goes from the standard dry bush to very wet and rainforest in a matter of metres too. I'm a slacko I know, I live literally 50 metres from the entry and still haven't done it.

We sure are very fortunate to have so many beautiful places on our doorstep.
Water Nymphs Dell is on our list. We haven't got there yet either! There are just too many places to visit, and so many of them change with the weather, as well as the terrain.
Hope you get down to Water Nymphs soon!

I can imagine the effort to plan and execute these walks you do for us and the notes on individual trips to keep people safe. Can you do an equipment video of what you use please. Spectacular as usual. Take care Ian.

      @shoesonmyfeet6056  Před 29 dny

Thanks Ian, planning takes time, but the executing take waaaay longer than usual. If a canyon takes most people 5 hours, count on 7-8 for us.
Things don't always go to plan, waiting for other people, trying to get water out of microphones, reshooting the same things because you find a better angle. It goes on.
We have discussed a gear we take type of video, and it is still something we want to do, sometime this winter or early spring.
Keep enjoying our videos and we will keep on making them.

If you go past that horrible hand over hand up the waterfall on the exit you can simply walk up the pagoda

Yup, hence why we note that on screen. We were going to go the easier way last time but just took the direct way again.

@@shoesonmyfeet6056 you took a different track up out of the main creek than I normally take. it looked interesting. Cuts out a bit of creek walking. Nice.
