You'd enjoy the original. It is turned based, but it is enjoyable. The story is fantastic and despite not having voice actors, you can tell that each have their own personality with great character growth. Mind you it is blocky graphics, but it's a ps1 game. Hell it pushed the ps1 to the limit with what was considered amazing graphics. So yeah, you'd enjoy it. You can download it on ps3 and I think ps4

I've played most of the main Titled Final fantasy games I honestly think 7 is one of the weaker entries in the series (2 and 8 being worse) it's a decent game though the only reason I'd recommend playing the original over the remake is so that players know what the story is but the Remake in my opinion blows the original out of the sky in basically everything including story and writing and music and it's honestly my top 5 final fantasy

Honestly, the slow walking (my favorite of which was the scene right after Chapter 1, walking through the rubble and civilians getting from the reactor to Seventh Heaven) is everything I could've asked for. No joke. The atmosphere and the people of Midgar are such an important part of why that damn pizza stuck with us so much. Final Fantasy VII is a game about life. It always has been. So to see the place in which different kinds of people live life, and how they live their lives, and how they react and can somehow find a way in their crumbling slums... it's so powerful. It's amazing. I love it.

No its far from a reboot. Its basically a sequel and remake in one.. Keeping the original story intact and this is sephiroth attempting to ensure he beats destiny (that chosen by the world itself who is a character in its own) and Aerith understanding this aswell trying to beat destiny to deter her own fate and stop sephiroth. This takes place after advent children. Red XIII and the other members have a vision of the future which is a retelling of a ending scene in advent children after the world wipes out all of humanity to prevent the potential destruction of itself ever again. This isn't a reboot but a continuation of the ffvii compilation taking place after the events of all other ffvii stories told in a remake.

But I actually don't like as many of the songs from this game. Don't like many of the new songs, and there are too many remixes. Some of the new versions of old songs are better IMO, such as Sephiroth's song, or Under the Rotten Pizza, but some are not as good. Aerith's song, Trail of Blood (which is now called something different), even the boss battle music, those just aren't good arrangements.

Here’s what I think in regards to the ending. First off, the whole thing with Zack is an alternate timeline, as hinted at with the chip bag with Stamp on it, on that bag Stamp is a different breed of dog than what you’d remember in the early chapters. Zack’s surviving against a fight he was supposed to die in is one of the side effects of Cloud and friends beating the Harbinger of Fate. Their victory not only changed their fate, but also the fate of many other people across time and space. That was the whole point of showing Zack surviving his fight and I wouldn’t be surprised if we never revisit that timeline in the remake miniseries. A spin-off, maybe.
Also, the subtitle “Remake” likely refers to the characters choosing to remake their fate. Again, kinda meta.

    • @LagunaX1
      @LagunaX1 Před 4 lety +27

My theory is the timeline where Zack lives is the timeline Sephiroth wins as Cloud never becomes Cloud. At some point the timelines have to converge and Sephiroth wants the Zack timeline to become reality, so there will be a Singularity event where the timelines co-exist (like the end of Part 1) where Cloud and Zack will defeat Sephiroth together. Zack will accept his fate, because he's an awesome guy, and allow himself and his timeline to be erased and the one we know to continue.

Then he brings in Cloud and his team who kill Destiny and this appears to be exactly what Sephiroth wants. Cloud and the team also don't truly understand what their fate was supposed to entail, so there's so many possibilities for this new story to play on it

It seems like Sephiroth is not part of the proper timeline here, which means the Whispers would have immediately went to delete him as opposed to needing the heroes alive to act out the proper course of events.
He helped manipulate them into fighting the Whispers for a reason, and it's possible that he was only able to weaken them and seemingly usurp their power after fate had been freed from its original path by the main characters.

I had a distaste at first, but after unlocking everything and all the weapon abilities, I realized how often I'd menu and it started to feel turn-based and fell in love.
What's the issue? Now that I'm in love with the combat flow, there is no good or consistent end game bosses or activities to use all the fantastic combat on. However, this is not entirely a take away since there will be further installments for the game, which hopefully has a great and meaningful open world expanding upon the fantastic openness feeling the original FF7 still holds up very well ~20 years later.

I don’t know if you know this but the game started development in 2015, somebody spread the news that they started development of a Ff7 remake and they had to announce it soon so that people can witness the announcement of a remake of one of the best games ever naturally instead of via a leak. The directors said it was announced too early, almost right after they started working on it and it was not the initial plan. That’s why it felt like a long time. Also I think that the next game will be releasing in 2 or 3 years as they have the engine and battle system already and just have to work on the locations and environment.

I also hope that the remake is only split into 2 games, Midgar part 1 and the rest part 2. I don’t want to wait for a third time. I think it makes sense because we fought one winged sephiroth in this game and the next game it will be god sephiroth, so I wonder what will they do with the second game’s final boss if there were three. I don’t mind how long they work on it but I hope the next installment is the final one. Two games is enough personally.

The remake was indeed my first Final Fantasy game. I always wanted to play 7 because I played the Kingodm hearts series on my ps2 as a kid and most of the FF characters came from FF7. Sadly I didn’t have a ps1 but a few years later the remake was announced and I swore that I would buy it. I’m now working through chapter 13 in hard mode. This game is so great!
I also started playing the original on the switch a few days back to compare it to the remake. I just beat the gold saucer level and stopped playing, because I want to keep surprises for when the remake comes out. Barrett’s back story made me stop playing because I knew that the remake would make the scene way better in terms of visuals, emotion and voice acting. So I. Decided to stop and won’t continue it until I finish the remake series. The remake expanded on areas like the train graveyard which was previously two rooms that you would get through in 2 minutes and fleshed out all the characters, Cloud has emotions, Tifa cries, aerith is a bit cocky, Barrett is a loving father but very committed to destroy shinra, the avalanche crew have personalities! Biggs loves children, Jessie wants to be an actress at the gold saucer and wedge is really into cats. That’s a few examples but almost every character was developed extremely. They also made certain cutscenes emotion like the sector 7 incident. I honestly can’t wait for the next game.

Persona 5 is 100% linear and is AMAZING, even won RPG of the year. So Id love if people stopped looking at linearity as a bad thing, to finally realize that its a GOOD thing, with linear games you can focus way, WAY more in the story, while in open world you have to focus to much on the open world. So fewer open world games please and more linear or at least semi open games, thats what I hope, and I hope the next parts keep on being linear.

The first thing that caught me and immediately made me excited were the visuals and character designs. It was such an astounding thing for me that I sometimes forgot I was playing a game. They looked so real and it was easily the best part for me.
The second were the characters themselves. Very well written and all of them are believable. I wanna mention Barrett real quick because I've seen people complain that he's just an angry black man, but he was so much more. He was a very smart man who gave a damn about his planet and was doing everything to protect it. I had so much respect for his character and to top it all off, he was a father of a small child. A damn good one at that.
Finally, the story was actually very good. Cloud dealing with these thoughts of Sephiroth believing the man to be dead stood out to me since Sephiroth is such a badass villain. Cloud's panic and doubt made those scenes better.
And I'm not gonna forget to mention the best part of this entire thing. Just staring at Red 13 and admiring the work amd detail that went into his design.
All and all this game was a phenomenal game and I am more than excited to continue this (in my case) new adventure.

    What I loved:
-Character models and animations are beautiful
-Voice acting is great (Although I miss the old cast, I love the new cast as well)
-Character dialogue/interactions are charming and feel more natural in comparison to games like KH
    -Expansion of Midgar
    -Aerith
    -The music
-Combat is a lot more fun than expected
-Customization (I love switching equipment around to suit the situation)
    -Decently challenging
-The ability to restart from BEFORE an encounter really saved my skin if I wasn't prepared.
-Game overs bringing you to before an encounter also alleviated my chronic save-scumming.
    -The ability to save anywhere
    -Aerith
    What I didn't love
-Pacing forced to a crawl with all the forced walking & sidling
-Chapter 9's arm cranes. There is a lot of variable things in Wall Market, and the cranes are annoying to go through every time you want to try a different route.
-The entirety of chapter 11. "Oh man, we got to hurry to help Barret and co, but let's take our time slogging through this out-of-place ghost stage.
-Dementors/Heartless (Couldn't the changing fate aspect be done in a different way?)
-I wish there was more Roche
-Game overs are little more than a slap on the wrist
Although there were plenty of things I wasn't a fan of, this is probably one of my favorite games now. No game is without flaw, and there are definitely games with fewer flaws imo, But as with all things one loves, I acknowledge the shortcomings but love it all the same. Can't wait for what's to come.

I'm so happy to see someone gush about this game. I'm really sick of spoiled fanboys nitpicking aspects of the game, be it presentation gameplay or *gasp* that it dared to go outside the box and not repeat the original verbatim.
This is an unprecented (seriously, what other classic massive jrpg has been remade to AAA standards in your lifetime?) breathtaking accomplishment. The amazing characters of FF7 came to life in a way I never thought I'd see, and the respect for the source material is evident in every nook and cranny of this game. Midgar was recreated in epic fashion, and all of the locals are brimming with details and nods to the original. The soundtrack is incredible, and they went further with it then they had to with the OST being a whopping 6 cds long, for just the first part.
Some of the gameplay was just OK and parts of the exploration and puzzle solving was tedius and not fun, but so what it was an amazing game and i will be replaying it for the rest of my life. And with the *spoilers* fact that we don't know what direction the story will go on for part 2 I an actually be excited for new suprises and events.

@Snow begone I'm a bit confused. Are you mad that fascism is portrayed as evil or that an oppressive undemocratic government is referred to as fascist? Because, you know, both are correct using current vocabulary.

    • @Shalakor
      @Shalakor Před 3 lety +2

@Snow begone Makes a suggestion about skill trees that makes no logical sense. ...Complains about the RPG elements being thin. (Seriously, what do you even mean with that, a tree where each skill has six different descriptions depending on which weapon is equipped?) Not all RPGs need to use the western branching self-insert character morality model for dialogue. Sometimes you're just given a role and have to play it out like in a stage play. The jRPG subgenre in general is more about the ensemble cast than the single main protagonist's decisions. (And unlocking weapon abilities for general use takes almost no time at all if you just want to stick to one weapon, and aren't required to beat the game in the slightest anyway.)
Also, an insurgent eco-terrorist group fighting a dictatorship run by a corporation that has a monopoly on all business within the government and beyond that wants to use said group as a scapegoat to reignite conflict with a foreign power isn't political at all, but saying the word "fascist" is? Right, sure. The original story, particularly in the Midgar section of the game, was political by its very nature to begin with. Are you trying to say this somehow changes the dynamic from the original game, or do you just not like the concept itself? I'm not even sure if SJW was a term yet when FF7 classic came out (not that the ideology described by the term SJW didn't exist all the same anyway, just a statement on how out of touch blaming the game for something integral to its core concept as if it were an additional element really is).
Finally, finding dead bodies with Sephiroth's unique blade sticking out of them in the original game was kind of a plot hole in original, or at least kind pretty ridiculous in retrospect, since logically if Sephi were to actually do that, he must have had to backtrack after the party passed through each time to go pick his weapon back up. From the party's perspective, believing Sephi to be the actual person with a real weapon, that would be the logical scenario of what was going on. Other things do legitimately take the story off the rails, but the simple act of Sephi stabbing the president in front of the party instead of offscreen or of Jenova leaving a goop trail instead of a trail of slain bodies hardly really effects things at all (and saves the game from getting an M rating on the ESRB with the higher fidelity graphics).
Sorry I rambled off on your statements so much, but they just didn't make much sense to me as actual complaints. The game has plenty of things that can be points of criticism, and I agree with you that criticism can be a good thing when properly applied, but I don't feel like your comment was a very good example of that.

    • @Blah3210
      @Blah3210 Před 3 lety

@@elias.t That line was jarring for me as well - mainly because fascism as a concept shouldn't exist in the FF7 world. Shinra may be de facto fascist, but it shouldn't be described as such in-universe. Fascism is a real-world political ideology that is rooted in our own history and doesn't belong in a fantasy world. The same would be true of communism if some NPC were to randomly quip about it in another fantasy game. It just takes you out of the experience.

One of the more brilliant aspects of this game I think is the entire feel of the pillar sequence. The game actually managed to convince me I might stop it this time around. By this point in the game I had kind of cottoned onto the whole "things are slightly different, something is off" aspect, and everything with the whispers, and even a few lines that Aerith says- it all manages to add up to a feeling that you might change fate this time. This pretty much trebled my anxiety and desperation as I climbed the pillar. Made it a very exciting sequence and I'm pretty sure I would just have been depressed playing through it otherwise.
Also serves a dual purpose of making you absolutely resent the whispers to an incredible degree. Like I didn't hate what they represented or that they were in the game, I just really wanted to put the boots to them and possibly save some of these characters I've been invested in for 20 years. Which, credit where credit is due, seemed to have been the exact intent. They make me excited, about the possibilities of a better future for these characters.

Cloud has become one of my favorite video game characters, as watching a merc with no loyalties change in a realistic and well paced manner to someone who is more concerned about others than himself was incredibly well executed. My thought on the title including the word “Remake” is a simple one. I believe by making “Remake” the subtitle, the developers allude to the core theme here of “remaking” destiny (kinda like how most Zelda games’ subtitles are about their major plot device).
Both Sephiroth and Aerith seem to be aware of how events play out in the original, and so they both seek to change the future. Aerith less so, presumably since it means defying the will of the planet - feels like she just goes along with Cloud’s decision at the end because she knows she can’t talk him out of it.

This was pretty close to my thinking. I think it's clear that what happens in this game is a completely different reality to the original game. This Sephiroth wanted the party to defeat the harbinger of fate because he knows what happened in the original game and wants a different outcome. "Seven seconds till the end..." In the original Sephiroth is on screen for seven seconds before stabbing Aerith.
I think the title of Remake is a bait and switch. It makes consumers think that it is a remake of the original game but really its alluding to the remaking of fate/destiny.

Yup. Throughout the whole game Sephiroth is using Cloud's Jenova infection to pull him with visions and voices away from key plots. Sephiroth is clearly aware of his fate from the original and is doing everything in his power to Remake those events. Examples, he encourages Cloud to run away before he meets Aerith. Before the Whispers attack Sector 7 and injure Jessie, Sephiroth tries to keep Cloud from waking up. In the end he encourages Cloud to strike down the whispers and vestiges of their future selves that are trying to save the history they have created. Thereby ensuring that the path going forward cannot possibly be the same and the whispers have lost their power over Cloud.
In Final Fantasy Remake part 1, SEPHIROTH WINS! He accomplishes everything he set out to do as he continues to pull Cloud's strings just like the puppet he was in the original. Sephiroth's fusion with the Eldritch horror Jenova has proven to be more dangerous than ever.

Now to go put in the next 40-60 hours it will take to get this thing completed. ;)
