It's time to "get good." Demon's Souls was once a niche favorite on the PlayStation 3 and now it's a flagship launch title for the PS5 with a Demon's Souls remaster! I've learned in retrospect that it is the easiest of the Soulsborne games but that doesn't mean it isn't hard. But what may also be the hardest thing about the game is it's name; Demon Souls vs Demon's Souls.
Let me know what you thought about my Demon's Souls review!
Also, what's the game title: Demon Souls OR Demon's Souls? How do you say it?

Entirely rebuilt from the ground up, this remake invites you to experience the unsettling story and ruthless combat of Demon’s Souls. From PlayStation Studios and Bluepoint Games comes a remake of the PlayStation classic, Demon’s Souls. Entirely rebuilt from the ground up and masterfully enhanced, this remake introduces the horrors of a fog-laden, dark fantasy land to a whole new generation of gamers. Those who’ve faced its trials and tribulations before, can once again challenge the darkness in stunning visual quality with incredible performance. In his quest for power, the 12th King of Boletaria, King Allant channeled the ancient Soul Arts, awakening a demon from the dawn of time itself, The Old One. With the summoning of The Old One, a colorless fog swept across the land, unleashing nightmarish creatures that hungered for human souls. Those whose souls were stripped from them, lost their minds - left only with the desire to attack the sane that remained. Now, Boletaria is cut off from the outside world, and the knights who dare penetrate the deep fog to free the land from its plight, are never seen again. As a lone warrior who has braved the baneful fog, you must face the hardest of challenges to earn the title “Slayer of Demons” and send The Old One back to its slumber.

Demon’s Souls bosses are jokes for veterans for the most part, however not having bonfires everywhere and specially not next to bosses means this game requieres the player to interact with the areas of the game way more than the other games (kinda like the opposite of Sekiro, which allows to kill most non-boss enemies in 1 hit with the stealth mechanic)

You think these bosses are easier cause they are older. It’s the opposite, in the old style it was very very very hard to dodge these attacks especially from the old hero.

Anyway, I guess it’s no use arguing when Doran is part of the “hard boss list” 🤣. Free kill even without staying on soul form to make less noice.

I'd assume DeSR is in fact easier, because it is less clunky. I only played the original, where the most issues I had with completion were the clunky controls. Something like no omnidirectional rolling when locked on or weird hitboxes, both of which, if I am not mistaken were changed in the remake. Higher framerate and better animations for improved readability of attacks are also present in the remake i think and all of that has a tremendous effect on gameplay.

the main thing you have to get a handle on (which i'm sure you have by now) is the weapon upgrade system. the sooner you get a +7 or better weapon (or+4/5 of the specialty upgrade paths) the smoother everything goes. You can get a damn strong weapon super fast once you know where things are, and all of a sudden the game isn't quite so hard. Killing things in 1 or 2 shots makes a big difference vs killing them in 3 or more. Same goes for HP, if you die in 4 or more hits you'll die far less than if you die in 2 or 3.

It's easy because it doesn't have roll catching enemies and not many multi enemy fights. Also the bosses have like no hp compared to latter games.
However, NG+ was always the hardest and roughest spike in Demon's compared to the rest of games. Add onto that the fact you can play in hard mode (Pure black world tendency) and the game is really tough. HOWEVER, the game is also broken in regards to builds. Some weapons are insanely powerful (Northern Regalia), spells (Firestorm) and insane health regen makes it almost impossible to die.

Framerate plays a lot into the difficulty. The attacks may feel sluggish on the PS5, but because you have sometimes more than double the framerate you have more time to react to attacks. Also with modern animation tech, blending the various animations is smoother and removes a lot of the janky 'suddenness' of quick attacks from the old days.
I remember the boss of Boletarian Palace being very difficult on PS3 since his attacks are a lot faster compared to other bosses in DeS. Since you had barely had a framerate of 30 to react it was hard to gauge when his attacks began.

So, my view as to why it's so much easier is that it's more fluid. Like how Bloodborne/Sekiro's pace was made much quicker by the move speed, it happened here, too. Combat is more fluid, hitboxes improved, and a lot of the glitchiness is gone from the Souls series. The game still kills you for making mistakes, but it's far easier to not make said mistakes.

I went into the game blind on my first playthrough. I had heard that dying too much made the game harder and didn't know how to farm for items. So each time I died on the first area more than ten times I would restart the entire game. I also didn't know how to avoid "fatrolling" so I died constantly.
After 25 times entirely starting the game over I broke through and then went on to beat the game a hundred hours later.

The third part is the most difficult part. You'll die... a lot. Just realize it is part of the game. There are ways of getting A LOT of souls later in the game, so losing the souls to that damned katana wielding asshat for the 5th time in a row isn't going to take away from your ability to finish the game. You can find a way around him, get better at the combat, or find that there's a trick you didn't think about earlier.

Grammatically it should be. Each demon drops one soul item when killed, implying each demon has one soul, so why would the "souls" in the title be plural? If the reasoning is because there are multiple demons, then it should be "Demons' Souls", with the apostrophe after the "s", but it's not, implying there is only one demon with multiple souls, which is obviously not the case. The title "Demon Souls" makes much more sense because it refers to multiple souls of the demon variety, which is what is present in the game.

I'd be fine if it just had a spear moveset but with the addition of R2 firing the magic spear he does. Looking at how FromSoftware handles boss weapons & armor in later titles I wish Bluepoint made more additions similar to later titles. Though I am glad they kept it so close to the original. There are minor changes that bug me but the good outweighs the bad.

Demon’s Souls is easily one of, if not the most, exploitable games in the franchise in terms of game knowledge making the game easier. Fighting The Adjudicator earlier than you’re supposed to and taking advantage of his AI gives you a huge amount of souls. Rushing to Patches in order to stock up on cheap healing items and using the Thief’s Ring on The Old Hero are some other examples of making the game super easy.

One thing I can say, from watching Helloween4545 play it, is that magic in Demon's Souls feels much more satisfying to use this time around. The Soul Arrow, the base starting spell for Royalty, had sound design that made it FEEL like it hits hard, on top of doing decent damage for what is basically the magical equivalent of your Pistol.
Honestly, I feel like From missed a trick when they made magic feel less worth it. While having individual spell charges was something different for Dark Souls 1 and 2, the informed scarcity of spell charges made them less desirable to use. But if From still wants to have a comparative limiter on spell-use, they could find a good middle-ground in having different flavours of Mana. Red Mana for Pyromancies, Blue Mana for Sorceries, Yellow Mana for Miracles. That way, you'd have semi-stringent spellcasting limits while still having some measure of universality in the form of mana meters. So even after using all of your Red Mana to light up your foes, you'd still have Yellow Mana for Miracles.
Also, in a rare stroke of chance, Bluepoint could totally add an expansion to the remake, and it wouldn't be an egregious violation of the source material. You see, there is one Archstone you can never access: the broken Archstone of the Giant, which would have led to the mysterious Northern Limit. Undoubtedly, a lot of Souls fans would be tripping over themselves to experience the lands beyond that broken Archstone, so it'd be a safe investment to get Miyazaki and Bluepoint to work on a Northern Limit expansion.
