In kitchens around the world, truffles represent culinary excellence and prestige, but in the forest they’re just another flora fighting to exist, using somewhat…unusual methods. In the lush woodland of the Pacific Northwest, these modest mushrooms’ adaptation strategies are promoting not only their own survival, but that of their forest ecosystem at large.

I'm amazed that I completely forgot "Hooked on Phonics" even existed.
Well actually......every sip of water you ever drank passed through the urinary tracts of uncountable mammal, dinosaur and other reptile, arthropod, mollusk, etc. creatures. So there's that.
and fish make whoopie in it
I would buy hi-end bottled water advertised as _Enhanced With Dinosaur Pee!_ ...or even lick a lollipop with a shotgun as a stick...
Don't forget that we've polluted most all water supplies with yummy nummy microplastics~
If you're gonna delete my post, at least have the decency to not send followup comments.... I don't even remember what I said.
@@Jah_Rastafari_ORIG I have no idea what you're talking about, Brother. No deleters here.
Nice to see a story close to home here, I'll search out more information on this.
Now I understand why we can't farm them.
You can but it’s really difficult. They sort of do with the Perigord truffles in France
You can farm them, but the market is way too volatile on the timescale that truffles need to start fruiting for this to be a good investment.
I understand the emoji stands in for the word poop but when I read the title, my brain really wants me to think that michelin star meals are made out of dogs
😂😂😂😂
Better then the creepy bug eating mushrooms(Cordyceps).
Ironically, the first guy in this episode is a youtuber who sells Cordyceps grown indoors, cleaner. ApexGrower 6:20
also, did you get verified from infosec google employees?
@@dertythegrower 😂
Let’s Grow!!! We made it on PBS!!
You can also see a similar relationship in Pinus radiata plantations, where I've seen the sand they've been planted in has become like a sponge from all the fungal hyphae.
Also, when Douglas Fir was introduced to NZ (a very bad idea, it's highly invasive) they had to treat them with fungal spores to get them to grow properly. Which makes me wonder if those were truffle spores they used and if we now have some tasty truffles lurking in certain areas infested with Douglas Firs.
Tree: “You seem like a pretty fungi, wanna team up?” (Probably)
Looking at the evolutionary history, it seems to be the other way around
The formation of mycorrhizae outdates trees, and appears in all tree species, so one could even say that it was essential for the evolution of trees
Woot new upload, thanks for the content!
Seems like another reason not to clear cut as forestry programs of universities in the area were advocating within the last few decades. They seemed to say that if you are selective then the proper native plants won't grow in the area that was selectively cut, but if you clear cut then you can plant everything that these habitats are supposed to have without one kind of plant taking over and leaving no room for the plants that were supposed to be there.
Interesting how this one reminds me of old Andrew Zimmern episodes of Bizarre Foods from the past before other food geeks started their youtube shows. But this is a better explanation all in mycology context.
This is why I stay away from Michelin and stars in general
Idk why but no one has been talking about the fact that we discovered an ocean in the mantle. I would love for you to shed some light on this quite new interesting discovery.
big up ApexGrower at 6:20
Thanks! 🎉
Good for something durable and versatile. The sulfur gets the bad wrap.
He's right- Oregon is great for mushroom hunting!
Moral of the story: If you've had truffle, go poop in the forest.
I’ve been pooping in my yard since this video came out and none of it has turned into truffles, yet…
Creme tangerine and montelimar
a ginger sling with a pineapple heart
a coffee dessert yes you know it's good news
But you'll have to have them all pulled out
after the Savoy truffle
Yes, you'll have to have them all pulled out
after the Savoy truffle
Savoy Truffle by Lemon and Maccaroon
Actually, it was Hairyclam...
...also, different kind of truffles....
The Hindi word for Mushrooms is “kukur mooth” literally meaning dog piss
Garlic, leeks and onions, mushrooms are all considered impure. Along with a host of other forbidden foods.
Beef, Leeks and Mushroom stew, flavoured often with onions and garlic is appreciated by many European countries. "One man's meat, is another man's poison."
Maybe the links we see aren't as wild as thought... what I mean by this, humans are not just humans, we have a entire biodome with each body to survive. Maybe every living thing is a community as living things working as one to live.
calories for a animal now = wow
I never Tried a truffle but I will one day
That title tho...
Cubensis and alot of others also grow from and thive with only poop.
Someone’s never grown mushrooms. Using manure for mushrooms is disgusting. Old school used sawdust. New school uses coconut fiber. They don’t even grow on manure in the wild.
@@peanutbutterjellyfish2665 I assume they are referring to psylocybe cubensis, which is most commonly found growing in cow manure in fields. That particular mushroom appears to have adapted to the human domestication of cattle, as that is it's preferred habitat. Not all mushrooms eat wood.
@@EnkiduShamesh you mean P. Semilanceata
@@EnkiduShamesh Not in Washington. Psilocybe cubensis fungi grow in warm temperatures, moist ground and above 90% humidity in the air. Which means you will only find psilocybin cubensis fungi there. You won’t find a wild strain of cubensis in Washington. It’s too cold. We have psilocybin. So the only climate where you will find it in manure, is tropical and sometimes subtropical climates. Most of the cattle in the US are raised in deserts. So cubensis are associated with cattle below the 32° parallel. It might happen in florida.
You'll never find it growing in poop. Stop watching CZcams. You'll find it where food was left to rot and under dead fall of any kind which holds moisture and encourages rot. It is only relevant to poop because giant cow pies do the same, keep moisture close and cause the normal ground cover to rot, making the perfect environment for fungi. This shit doesn't take a bunch of research or these hipster dipshits and their forums to figure out. I figured it out when I was 16, shit faced drunk, stoned to pieces, and tripping balls on said mushrooms. Only idiots root through shit for something to eat. Or desperate people, but that's the exception. Fungus relies on natural events to break down the defenses of other plants to allow it to steal the necessary nutrients to grow and reproduce. Shit, particularly cow shit, has already had all those things extracted from it, hence the cow, with a massive and highly efficient digestive system, discards it. Then it will be processed further by insects with even more efficient systems back into soil. Fungus is not efficient nor capable of breaking things and extraction, so relies on nutrient rich and unexploited sources for its survival. And now you have a practical and basic understanding of how it works without a bunch of fluff and bullshit, literally, that was learned from a lifetime of eating things either planted or foraged, and honed to the point that only a lazy, drug addled young person could manage when blessed with a bit of common sense, critical thinking, and logic that used to be taught in American schools and parents that learned the same way. More important than what you learned, is passing it on to someone else free of charge in hopes of it sprouting and spreading to others before its too late. Learn responsibly, friend.
Still the Mono-Culture Wood-Farms/Forests aren't exactly resilient to bug infestations or forest fires like mixed/primeval Forests are!
So, while this might enhance their "usefulness", I don't think it's a long-term sustainable practice to have these Mono-Culture woods (of course I'm not talking about Tundra Fir-Forests, which are primeval Forests in their own sense and exist because of plant adaptations.
But in the context of man-made "Wood Plantations", my point stands...they might become more and more of a hazard in extreme weather, that is supposed to happen more frequently in the Future...
Poop shrooms for the win!
Oh! The animals poop the spores! Next you'll make a video explaining the animals poop the seed of the trees or any other plant we eat! Wow, how radical you are!
Whoever runs this account is on fire 🔥
Yummy pooshrooms
some truffles come from animal poop i told some body this long time ago they didnt beleive me...
Thought they used pigs to find truffles.
Pigs tend to eat them and aren't disciplined like dogs

I understand the motivations behind video naming, but still, I think the number of people watching this channel who can even consider going to a Micheliin starred restaurant is very low.
