The First Martians: How Polar Explorers Taught Us to Conquer the Stars
Space: The Longest Goodbye on Independent Lens: pbs.org/longestgoodbye | #LongestGoodbyePBS
Watch on the main PBS CZcams channel: czcams.com/video/MT-pV48XBI4/video.html
In 1897, the Belgica set sail for Antarctica on the first true science mission to the end of the world,. But within 200 days, the crew found themselves trapped in sea ice, battling disease and insanity during the unending polar night. How did the extreme Antarctic winter affected the Belgica's crew? And what can their trials teach us about maintaining sanity in the harsh environments of space as humanity plans for it’s first crewed mission to Mars?

The increase in the amount of tornadoes in Ohio, including northeast ohio which isn't even on her map definitely tells me that something has changed with our weather. We barely have winter anymore and had a tornado in the middle of winter and thundersnow is becoming very common along with frequent bad storms leaving a ton of damage. Last year we went a week without power due to two storms coming back to back and just tearing up our whole area.

Thats not all of tornado alley illinois is excluded and they get more than their share including the largest traveling grounded tornado in history which i believe was the most deadly in history in 1925 that killed over 600 in illinois alone. 1925 global warming? Ok look its been no different tgis season a little busier but we have had mild seasons of late. Tornadoes havent changed only the coverage of tornadoes and more civilization in their paths give the perfect illusion and thry can fudge the numbers to fit their political narratives.

Reversing global warming is a complex challenge that requires substantial and coordinated global efforts. While complete reversal might not be feasible in the immediate future, it is possible to significantly slow down or even halt the progression of global warming through various strategies. Here are some key approaches: Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Transition to Renewable Energy: Shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power can drastically reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Energy Efficiency: Improving energy efficiency in industries, buildings, and transportation can reduce energy consumption and associated emissions. Carbon Pricing: Implementing carbon taxes or cap-and-trade systems to incentivize reducing emissions. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS): Direct Air Capture: Technologies that capture CO2 directly from the atmosphere. Geological Storage: Storing captured CO2 underground in rock formations. Afforestation and Reforestation: Planting Trees: Trees absorb CO2, so increasing forested areas can help sequester carbon. Protecting Existing Forests: Preventing deforestation and degradation of forests. Sustainable Agriculture and Land Use: Soil Carbon Sequestration: Practices like no-till farming, cover cropping, and agroforestry can enhance carbon storage in soils. Reducing Methane Emissions: Improving livestock management and rice production practices to reduce methane emissions. Reducing Short-Lived Climate Pollutants: Methane, Black Carbon, and Hydrofluorocarbons: Addressing emissions of these potent but short-lived climate pollutants can have immediate benefits for slowing warming. Enhancing Ocean Carbon Sinks: Marine Protected Areas: Protecting and restoring marine ecosystems such as mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes. Iron Fertilization: Stimulating phytoplankton growth to enhance CO2 uptake (though this method is controversial and requires careful consideration). Innovative Technologies and Geoengineering: Solar Radiation Management: Techniques like stratospheric aerosol injection to reflect a small fraction of sunlight away from Earth (still highly experimental and controversial). Policy and International Cooperation: Global Agreements: Strengthening international agreements such as the Paris Agreement to ensure global cooperation in mitigating climate change. National and Local Policies: Implementing robust climate policies at all levels of government. While some impacts of climate change are already unavoidable, these strategies can help mitigate further damage and, over time, stabilize and even reduce global temperatures. The effectiveness of these efforts depends on prompt and sustained action across all sectors of society.
