I love how Adum doesn't use the horse imagery anywhere on his main channel yet it's widely considered to be his brand.
I love Suda51's stuff. Seeing The Silver Case remaster on Steam got me curious just by the screenshots and trailer. The game is one of the most uncanny games I've ever played, and it's not trying to be weird and uncanny on purpose, it's just so happens there are weird things in the game. Good thing he's pretty versatile in game genres. Love to see more from Suda!
Talking about games as an art form, personally I feel the most artistically valid games use the fact that they are games to leverage the story rather than try to emulate movies. Like how the tedium of Pathologic emphasizes the brutality of the games world, or how the basic mechanics of some of the best indie rpgs are directly tied into the story like OFF, Undertale, and Lisa. A lot of western RPGs use the interactivity and length to cover a larger quantity of complex topics in depth, like New Vegas or any of the most well known isometric crpg, this is also something used to add narrative density in immersive sims like deus ex or system shock. There's also the mediums significant advantage with environmental storytelling, like in the the bioshock games or half life games. Basically I'm not saying cinematic games are bad, it's just that they're not really taking advantage of the unique advantages of the medium. Actually going back to suda that's part of why his best games work so well, like killer7s cryptic story would not work anywhere else, and the no more heroes games are basically about the fact that they are video games.
Honestly, I see cinematic games as a bit of a cop out; like if you are going to not use gameplay in order to enhance your story, just make a visual novel instead which allows you to better zero in on a linear or even non-linear story. Uncharted for instance had really great setpieces and action but the gameplay just consisted of holding the stick in a certain direction or mediocre third person shooter segments.
I didn't know you knew YMS! That's super cool, Adam is a really down-to-earth dude. I'm subscribed to both of you because you both have excellent taste and analytical skills. Rock on dude!

It was really a nice conversation. It was out of the blue that Ghenry was able to have this talk with Adum, but it’s really fitting. I really enjoy seeing Adum play Suda games on his gaming channel and really have a good time experiencing Suda’s surreal work.
Since you briefly touched on it: I think the idea of "Stranding" as a game play genre revolves around the duality of being isolated and working together with other players at once. I remember when I started I accidentally unloaded everything at the first outpost. I figured it would be nicer to just leave it there for someone else to benefit from my stupid mistake. Instead, I came back to the same pile with another player's "no trash" sign right in the middle of it. I cleaned it up and replaced their sign with an encouragement. Best genre. ;D

Although I enjoy looking at the subtext and subtleties about Suda51’s games, I’m 100% with Adam here, I really just enjoy the unique feeling each of his games has. Even though I haven’t played The Silver Case or Killer7, I still loved TSB:NMH because it still had that Suda51 feel to it, more so than his other games I’d say.
It's how I first saw the games and obviously not a bad way to love Suda's work.

great director with a great line of work, creepily woke with how some of his NMH commentary is close to real life in Southern California. I always loved the difficulty curve on most of his titles, the original Dark Souls style. Meticulously balanced usually, or purposefully changed to be tough when unexpected. Game Design Wizard.

You can definitely stream emulated games on Twitch.
I really think the closest the west has to a video game lead by the identity of the creator are people like Chris Avellone or Tim Kain or even Micheal Kirkbride back when he was with Bethesda. Also I guess you could argue John Romero and John Carmack, those two I think really made Doom classic what it is and you can definitely feel them in the games they made.
I remember getting HAMMERED watching Rise of Skywalker and it turns out YMS and I watched the same camrip so that's an epic gamer moment
