- Trick Flow Specialties has designed a cylinder head for the LS engine that will help your engine flow more air. Watch as Jim installs a set of Trick Flow GenX 255 LS3 Cylinder Heads on our project Camaro. These cylinder heads are easy to install with some basic hand tools but grab an extra set of cylinder head bolts and head gaskets before you start to make the install go quickly.

Nice job... took a notice to that ground wire attached to the drivers side cylinder head, that looked real weak compared to the nice wide grounding STRAPs that were used during the 70s and 80s.
this was easy to understand then most people teaching I've had when I did my time as a automotive technician
+Thomas Plumridge,
Thank you for watching, Thomas!
On almost all new cnc heads the way they are cut the transision is right in the middle of the short side radius, use emery cloth or sand paper and smooth out that transition to really get the most out of your new heads, I've gained quite a bit from doing this on my builds fwiw
Also if u use stock type rockers get the heads with powder metal guides especially when running over .630 lift, otherwise you will really wear out bronze guides pretty fast fyi
Never use thread tape on a bolt that goes into aluminum. Use a Teflon paste or gasket sealant.
gregpenechar that’s exactly what I was thinking.
Tape was put on the wrong direction aswell
Before I take my heads off do I have to put the motor it top dead center on the Compression stroke?
I resurface my oem heads, but the mechanic is bugging about a screw like plug at the end of the heads. I was listening that you have said they are not drilled meaning it's a deletion??? Please contact me asap thank you for this, it helped a lot!
Should've stressed the importance of cleaning out the head Bolt holes......
the oe head they do drill the back of the head for the vent because if they didn't you would have a left head and a right head
are you guys' performance heads mass produced??
the 90° head bolt tip is nice but what's your tip for the 70° torque that follows if one does not have an angle gauge...? would it be bad to just turn the lines to 11:30/5:30 after you get your 90° to 9:00/3:00??
+Poopmnster,
For $10 or $15 for the proper tool, there is no reason to guess. www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/torque-angle-gauges
Poopmnster I rather use ARP. Bolts torque them and be done with it pluss u can reuse them too
By switching just the Heada what is the power gain ? Why would you not do the cam at this time?
scott wolfe factory cams are actually pretty good. They are streetable and will support more HP than most give them credit for.
What are labor hours like?? 8 hours?
What head gasket did you use? Can GM originalhead gaskets be used?
This is an older video, however, we are pretty sure we used the GM O.E. head gasket. No special head gasket is needed. Thanks for watching!
One ☝️ more question 🙋🏾♂️
What were the length of the push rods used ?
The stock 7,400 or a longer one?
Great video. But DO NOT dril, tap and plug the coolant stem ports. I did it just like the video says and I could get them to stop leaking. I've now ordered the correct covers for them and the leak is gone. Luckily I didn't drill the holes out too large.
Dont u have to put at TDC
Cool
Is Jim available for hire to complete a project? what is his home state?
😊
what is tha HP
man, i sure hope he used compressed air to blow any remaining water out of those "Blind" head bolt holes before he put the heads back on... probably looking at a cracked block if he didn't...
Was thinking that. Most ive seen slit an old bolt and run it through a few times to clean the threads too.
Yep, buy the special cleaning tap for LS blocks, i highly recommend using the arp studs, i dont like the arp head bolts, I've had them do some weird stuff fwiw
The teflon tape was installed in the wrong direction
Yes I also noticed that... or maybe left hand threads...
I bet that Canadian Camaro wish it had VTEC heads. Then it wouldn't have to replace them.
Why would someone do such an improvement in head flow with a stock cam, stock exhaust, and stock intake/air intake? If they had to pay for the labor for this then they are wasting so much money. Square port LS heads are not cheap. Especially with CNC TrickFlow heads like these they would be better off getting a cold air intake & full exhaust and be better off financially and more power because the stock intake and exhaust are the most restrictive over square port LS3/L99 heads.
He put the thread tape on in the wrong direction. Just saying
you put your teflon upside down
or inside out
He put it on counter clockwise while spinning the bolt, it should go on clockwise with the thread direction while installing.
