Its just occurred to me that I never discussed the Hours in this video, The machine had 3980 hours on it when I got it which is a bit higher than Id like but I talked to several people who said it wasn't hard to imagine getting 8000+ out of the engine and pumps so that should last me quite a while!
I noticed that the diesel inside this machine seems to be red. Which means it is heating oil. *edit* I life in germany, we only have one type of diesel. I did not know that there is Offroad diesel in the usa.
you spent 28k on that thing?! I havent even saved up that much! (32k actually now that Ive watched the vid)
@@FeralDayASMR it's off-road diesel... Only time it's illegal is if he drives the equipment running it down the road. Otherwise there's no road taxes on it so it's cheaper
@@FeralDayASMR that is off road diesel witch is also died red. It's not taxed legal for off road use so tractors, equipment, etc
Looks like you put a can of refrigerant in it too.
Matt, I’m a retired English teacher and have never used any equipment heavier than a riding lawnmower, but I just love going along with you on these adventures. My wife says what are you watching, I tell her and she says WHY, and I tell her that I now know how to change the oil on a skid steer 🤣. I appreciate all you do.
Current English teacher, and same 😂😂

You'vre ridden a riding mower; that's heavy equipment to me. I know how to WD40 things !
Current Community College professor and I feel the same way.
I think I've got it now: Skid steers should always be purchased in pairs, so that one can be used when repairing the other!
If you don’t already have one yes lol
Only if your purchase is NOT a Bobcat LOL! Otherwise, in 18 years of ownership ONE Bobcat has been fine LOL YMMV!! :D :D :P :P
I’ve lost count on how many Andrew Camarata has. I think six plus.
@@Military-Museum-LP I think Andrew’s addicted

Watching over the past 2 years how much you've used this machine and everything it's done for you, this has been likely one of if not the best purchase you've made so far.
Matt, Takeuchi Trac machines are very dependable, quick starting in cold weather, and with regular maintenance will hardly ever be in the shop......you made a good choice on a very good skid steer.
The only difference between a man and a boy, is the size of our toys…. That my friend is a fantastic new toy !! Enjoy every moment with it.
We used them at the tree farm I used to work at. All in all great machine but either don't waste your money on gas shocks for lifting the cab or put them on when you need to lift it then take them back off. Don't know why but those particular shocks don't hold up between services. We serviced ours regularly and everytime I had to change the shocks. My guess is the vibration of running the machine shakes them enough they loose the gas. Other than that they are great machines so enjoy and keep up the great work. Always enjoy your videos

"One-man brand!" 😂
I love that the dealer was literally willing to put his money where his mouth was. He brought it KNOWING that you weren't going to be able to pass on it. Good on both of ya.
As far as the oil filter; having it under the cab may be encouraging you to lift the cab and check everything out every once in a while instead of only when there’s problems
Don’t forget to check cabin filters, cleaning or replacing those makes the ac work better.
Don't run the air with the door open. That'll clog the air system faster then anything else.
@@douglasrdeaton why is that? Isn’t it pulling outside air through filter?
No, dust circulation in the cab will make it's way to the cooling coils that have condensation that helps the dust stick to them over time there will no air flow through the cooling coils.
That air filter being dirty like that is a good sign that it wasn’t just made to look perfect for you so that would make me happy
Às an inexperienced viewer, I think you got a great deal !! I don't know what a brand new machine costs but for $28K + $4K for the new tracks and sprockets, total $32,000 seems like a good deal. Thank goodness you have the knowledge and expertise to do the labor portion - saving you a bundle !! Take care Matt and keep those videos coming, ol' Buddy !!
I picked up John Deere 318D wheeled loader two years ago with 3700 hrs on the clock and it has been a great help to me out in my big yard. I did all the required filter changes, flushing tanks, oil change, lube and the like when I first got it. So far it has been a real champ with the only mechanical repair being the attachment locking mechanisms wear items being replaced such as springs, pins and links.
I’m sure the irony has not been wasted on those like me who have noticed the old wheeled Bob Cat coming to the rescue. LOL. :)
Matt !, I gotta tell you. For someone who readily admits that he is on unfamiliar territory, you do a damn sight better than some of the "professionals " I have encountered in my 76 years. Most of those years around big equipment and marine engines and electrics. Stay at it Bie !! ------------ 1/2 hour later viewing ! You are my NEW HERO !! 2 thumbs up.
True that!!
Just had heart surgery yesterday and I’m finally sitting up and coherent lol what a nice surprise to jump onto CZcams and see some diesel creek! The tv channels suck here and regular season Seahawks hasn’t started , the pain meds help the pain of course but I needed something to distract me from the hot nurses 😂so definitely happy for a new video!

Every boy and every man's dream to have a good size land and all the sweet sweet heavy machinery to play with the dirt...
I believe I would change the oil in both those drive motors while you’re doing all that work. Especially with that many hours.🤔😊
OMG Matt, you nailed it about the modern "electronic" machines. They are garbage! Keep it simple, keep the older models running, so much easier to maintain..
And probably better built too! It's a shame but newer designs use cheaper materials and are designed to break it seems. Older products were designed to last.
The, "well guys, time to pull the starter..." part got you a like from me! Love your can-do attitude!
I have no use for a track loader and yet want one badly. Would just dig holes to fill up again. I grew up at my dad’s stone quarry so I can’t get enough of Matt’s videos.
If it wasn't for diesel creek, watch Wes work and Andrew Caramata I would have to start talking to the wife again!

Matt, you're a 'One Man Band' that plays one awesome tune. Being Self Employed and working on your own most of the time is really "working". I have been Self Employed and it is no joke, sometimes, just 'Go, Go, Go', to make a living. Enjoy watching your videos immensely. At 85 years old, CZcams is my 'go to' entertainment and you are one of my favourite Tubers. Congrats on your new Machine, it seems it will be one of the most used ones in your collection. May it serve you well, you deserve it.
I have had 2 of those machines an older tl140 wich is the big one, it was a absolute beast almost a bull dozer could not stop that thing, couldn't legally haul it around without a CDL, so got a newer tl130 with the narrower tracks, still a beast just not enough traction for the power..
Anyways, I would never buy any other brand, enjoy brother
It's a great piece of equipment, good luck with your new toy..
this is why I always con the dealer into doing the first 3 services on a new machine LOL Youve got a good machine, should treat you well
Why does half of the channel i'm listenning to are related to Takeuchi's skidsteers LOL I dont do any excavation :) But I do enjoy watching you guys play with those machines

I always request a Parts manual, Service manual, and Owners manual on a USB stick in PDF format as a condition of sale. Dosen't really cost them anything and usually helps out in the near future. Also you can print off the relevant pages and if they get dirty or oily you can print them off again.
Chris. Did you ever get to the bottom of the DEF problems ??
Matt--That machine was "ridden hard and put away wet" despite the exterior appearance. Pretty obvious when you started to do the maintenance that the previous owner (before the seller) wasn't into any maintenance. Make sure you change that final drive oil and steam clean that engine compartment to pick up on anything else that might be hidden under the dirt.
Fuel pump on my truck went out, so I went and bought this nice looking 2000 Saturn SL1 to get me by so I could work on the truck. So far I've replaced nearly every sensor in it, given the engine a complete tuneup with all fluids and filters changed and found out that the car has never had a new set of plugs or wires in it since it's been new. One of the previous owners had the tranny fluid/filter replaced about three years ago, but everything else they just let it go to shit. I don't mind putting the money into it, since I got it from 25MPG to 34MPG after the work I did, but it's the little things that make me wonder sometimes...
@@cujoedaman when you start hearing funny noises from that car... check timing chain tensioner...

I'm not planning on keeping it forever. I started work on my truck and once it's back up and running, the car will be up for sale :D
Congratulations on repairing the starter. Awesome save 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Matt, I found your video informative, thorough and genuine, particularly when you discovered small disappointments that require replacement, yet were not deal-breakers. Your ability to perform these repairs is impressive. I'm researching track steers for possible purchase (vs a compact tractor) for my small acreage. Thank you for posting this to inform me and others...appreciated !
Those are SOLID machines. In the three years I worked on them for a rental company I can honestly say we never had any major repairs (engines, pump or motors). Most of our work was wear items & customer damage, maybe an o-ring or hose here & there but that was it. Nice buy Matt!
Man, I gotta say, the way you show and explain things reminds me of a teacher. When you showed us how to run the machine, cause a lot of people (Myself included) didn't know, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy. Like the father I never had.
Always a pleasure to watch your posts. Your optimism is contagious. You turn/make daunting breakdowns into simple repairs. You come through as a genuinely nice person. Keep it up!
Sorry about the problems, your abilities to repair them are very impressive, thanks for sharing Matt, love your videos, take care and stay safe!
I stumbled across this channel somehow and wasted an hour on a Saturday afternoon learning about skid-steers. Matt absolutely nails this video though. Well produced, great genuine personality and you have a great work ethic. I subbed.
Go back and watch a lot of his other videos. It’s all amazing stuff!
I agree - a great binge watching session highly recommended. You will then appreciate the next exciting episodes of the Christine the grader , the old F’d up truck , the driveway construction, the church house restoration and a whole bunch of other stuff - all of it better than TV HBO or Netflix’s
You have GOT to watch Matt's other videos - some great other stuff in there
That thing will pay for itself in no time, the servicing and replacement of the tracks add to the confidence level as with giving you a solid starting point in terms of where you are mechanically at this point in time. Good purchase, in my opinion, you're a workhorse you need something reliable this will do the trick.
@@larrypinter3321 not sure, fixed
Good job Matt, you really are good at fixing your machines. I like watching you do that work without any help, you’re a regular shade tree mechanic.
My older brother owns property and a cattle ranch. He purchased a brand new piece of equipment like that. He needed it to clear brush and it works great to clear land for cattle.
"If you don't know what I'm talkin' about" --- I do, and if I didn't, letsdig18's recent experiences are a great reminder.
Poor guy, 'new' machines in endless limp mode.
This is one of the best videos you’ve ever made. And even with the repairs, you did not over spend.
When I bought my backhoe, I decided that I did not want air conditioning. It seemed like an extravagant luxury. When I finally pulled the trigger, it came with AC. It is amazing, and so wonderful being able to work in the heat of the summer, with a comfortable cab.
Not a luxury at all.
Thanks for sharing your first maintenance and repair video on the Takeuchi Track loader. I’ve learned a lot from this one single video.
I'm all for clean air and such but those emissions contraptions on diesel equipment are the bane of the working man.
I’ve hated both system on semis for the last 12 years I see it’s the same issues on equipment also
Your content is so grabbing that i can't get anything done around here!!
I probably watch it
3 in a row. You make me smile inside and outside when you finally get a motor to kick over.
It's like watching a kid in a candy shop !!!! Scott here thanks for everything you do.
How do you figure? Just because a mechanic had a thrill when something that didn't run and he got it started... Well LMAO
For an old guy I've operated most brands of skid loaders going all the way back to the early 70's. If asked about my favorite I'd have to say Takeuchi since it rarely broke(routine wear) and was a dream to handle. I think they came out somewhere around the mid 80's and were instantly liked(except for the intolerant who derided anything foreign). In my experience I think the idler gear wear is unusual, I'd never seen that. For the years and years I've spent on Takeuchi's I wouldn't want anything else. Good luck.
Fixed the starter, not just replaced it. I like to see folks who are true mechanics, not just part replacers.
I'd say this machine did you a favor. I would prefer all this stuff happening right away. It's nearly as good as preventitive maintenance? Sure beats having it all break when you are behind schedule on a job and don't have easy access to tools and parts.
Amen!
@@DieselCreek Matt…be sure to read Patrick Ritenour post about 100 posts before this one as his company has 7 of these machines and he has some great information for you…you didn’t like his post so I’m thinking you missed it?

Good video over the years of buying mostly all used equipment I come to the conclusion It always comes down to the previous owner once you get their bad habits out of the machine you'll have a good piece. 💯💪🏼💯
it's a good day when you wake up and there's an hour long of Diesel creek to watch. awesome work thanks for the vids matt

Excellent purchase Matt. So glad you got it. Also glad you got the tracks replaced and the sprockets. Have a great day and thank you for sharing.
Matt, recording these events has got to be a pain at times, but I for one, do appreciate it. I am not into large machinery but sure enjoy watching you work on and work with these creatures. Thank you!

With the addition of the new sprockets and tracks and the full service it is essentially a new machine. Good luck with your new addition. Great video
Great buy Diesel...I still like the old school Cat 977, it has AC in the winter, and heat in the summer lol!
Open station for summer is turn the fan so it blows air forward if it doesn't already and there is a canvas tube that fits over the radiator to blow hot air back to the operator for winter operation, my father in law operated one of these monsters in Milwaukee for years.
I got a NH L775. Same thing. Coldest day of the year, and I can get that thing down to a crisp -40 in just seconds. Really saves on sweaty hands on the controls. All mechanical. Even the radio. Turn the power on, and I sing. (To myself.)
The old BobCat must be laughing up it's sleeve at how you needed it to work on the Takeuchi. If machines could only talk...

I really enjoyed using the Takeuchi TL240 in my previous job as it had a/c heat and a radio. It was much better the older Gehl I first learned on which is similar to your bobcat.
Great addition down at the Creek. Very nice loader.

Gonna be weird not hearing Sherman tank noises when a skid steer is operating on this channel :D
Well, every time at least. Sure seems like you got a good deal all things considered, even with the track and sprocket maintenance
I’m going to miss hearing the track squeak!
$280 for a starter on one of these is actually lower than I would have guessed. Nice fix none the less
it was like 580 dollars for our 2002 bobcat 341D compact excavator just a year or 2 ago. pure bs absolute financial rape.
Only thing I might have done when you were servicing the machine was to pressure
wash it to insure everything was in good condition. Little Gremlings can hide in the
dirt. Have used one and loved its response and realibility.
Congratulations on the purchase. Awesome machine. You are going to love it!! thanks for sharing
I was surprised that the tracks and sprokets were "only" $4,000. Easy to say sitting in my recliner watching you spend YOUR money but I would have guessed them to be about $10K. Based only on my knowledge of how much people bitch about having to replace them. Great video, I enjoy all the content you put out there, thanks for the hard work!
Yes, my thoughts were same and only took one minute forty seconds to replace the track on the left side.
The McLaren ones would be $20K. The Koenigsegg would be $100K.
I don’t believe you got burned… any machine w nearly 4K hours is going to have needs. Engine sounds super healthy and starts right up. It appears she’s gonna be a good machine for you😎

That starter failing early is a blessing in disguise - it's way better to fail now than in some remote field far away from tools....
I always remember your words " you have to pay to play "
Indeed!
@@DieselCreek I reckon you paid a fair price matey & the machine appears to have been pretty well cared for by the previous operator.
Nobody could have predicted the starter taking a crap either (might be worth getting a new gear for it, as the current one may wear the ring gear on the flywheel due to the reduced contact area).
I all of a sudden have a hankering for blueberry soft serve ice cream.
Matt has mad skills..he replaced the tracks of that unit with freaking bobcat forks!!! Impressed.
Looks solid to me especially given the hours. Takeuchi is impressive in it's build and sevicability...they go that extra little bit of effort to make a bad situation a bit better to work with.
It's a nice tidy machine, even with having to do some work on her it's surely well worth it to avoid all the emissions crap!
I can really appreciate how super adept you are with the Bobcat when you were using the forks to install the new track on the Taki around the 50 minute mark. Nice work Matt! Very satisfying video today. If'n I could you'd get 2 thumbs up.
I enjoyed watching you work. You are a very good mechanic and your driving is fantastic.
Think about this on the oil drain,
You can always plumb up a pipe add a valve and oil dump hose, so you don't have to go under the unit to change the oil.
No one is stopping you from making changes to it.
On cars and trucks they sell oil pan value kits to replace the oil pan plug.
You know things are getting serious when the hat comes off.
Awesome machine you definitely won’t look back now Matt. I used to contract to a company here in Australia that sold and serviced these and their near bulletproof. Well done on a great purchase look forward to upcoming videos with this machine.
Takeuchi makes QUALITY RELIABILE machines. Great video! Excellent purchase 😊👍
Matt just found your channel recently and I'm enjoying everything, my tele is hardly ever on now, thanks just keep them coming.
Compared to the company’s skid steer i work for this things a gem and isn’t dying blowing hydraulic lines or throwing tracks and ive been noticing alot of engines coming with def and a dpf filter now
I would be worried about the starter drive gear wearing out the flywheel ring gear since there is only about half of the gear left. Puttting in a new starter might save you from pulling the pump and bellhousing in the not to distant future.
I was thinking the same thing. Future video: pulling the pump (or engine if unlucky) to replace the ring gear...
I would think the starter gear is replaceable.
The classic tailgate accessory rebuild, nicely done. I'm amazed at your clever ways of doing heavy solo work.
Can 100% understand the older model purchase. I have a 4 ton Made in Germany forklift and it has a naturally aspirated 2.4L Mercedes diesel. The only two cables on this engine go to the starter. It doesnt have a backup beeper, no emission crap and it just works.
5 years ago I was asked to take care of 6 draft horses here in Alaska the owner died in the winter time I would load 3 round bales per week from the hay fields and I used same model in the winter and it started every time.
It was-20 f. No plug in.
I was impressed by it.
matt if it starts over heating, you might need a radiator comb to straiten the fins great video
