  • The problem with bandsaw boxes is the gap around the drawer. It's not a problem anymore.

    Brilliant. The gaps are the main thing that frustrates me about bandsaw boxes. Nice work.

      I agree, the gaps make them look unfinished. I'm sure there is a better way to be found yet.

    I'm still not sure why cutting at an angle reduces the gap. But it's nice to see a man on a mission.

      Because he can then recess the drawer in further to remove the gap. Then sand away the front of the outer shell to same depth of the drawer

      Because it creates a miter. The cut is now 45 degrees away from the back of the box. You can't see it, the drawer face overlaps a bit. Whereas before the cut was always 90 degrees from the back and you could see straight down the gap.

  • @jeremyjjbrown

    Why not enter with the ply direction so yo can fill the saw gap and not notice?

  • @jake_a_g
    @jake_a_g Před rokem

    Neat. Could you do the 1st prototype strategy, but just a 5 or 10 degree angle?

    • @MartinMurrayWoodDesign
      @MartinMurrayWoodDesign  Před rokem

      Don't tell anyone but I did try 5 and 15 degrees off camera. 5 degrees, the wedge dropped about 75% and 15 degrees dropped about 50%. 30 degrees seems to be the sweet spot as it only dropped about 2 or 3mm. But I'm happy to be proved wrong.

    Very good idea! Question, and this is something I've always wondered about all band saw boxes. Do you find your gap is uneven because of the single entry kerf?

    • @MartinMurrayWoodDesign
      @MartinMurrayWoodDesign  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The uneven gap in my opinion, is the worst part about bandsaw boxes. Hopefully someone will watch this video and come up with a better way. 🤞

    • @BenNawrath
      @BenNawrath Před 9 měsíci

      @@MartinMurrayWoodDesign {I was thinking something like cut all the way thru on the entry cut, so the whole thing shifts down, not just one side.
