-ABOUT THIS VIDEO-.
Today we will be with Isabel Otero, current Press officer at the Spokesperson Service of the European Commission, and former Blue Book Trainee in 2020. We will also be joined by Carlos Terán, assistant to the Head of Unit - DG CNECT at the European Commission and former Blue Book Trainee (M22’s intake). Finally, we will have the opportunity to count on the presence of Carlos Gil, training director at Yepso!
They will explain to us the importance of how to prepare a competitive application for internships at the European Commission.
- MORE INFORMATION ABOUT WORKING IN THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION -
Venue: Luxembourg
Institution / Agency: European Commission
Type of contract: Trainee
The European Commission is the politically independent executive body of the EU. It is the sole body responsible for drafting proposals for new European legislation and for implementing the decisions of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. Its role is to look after the general interests of the EU by proposing and checking that legislation is complied with and implementing EU policies and the EU budget.
The main objectives of the European Commission are
- Suggest new laws.
- Manage European policies and allocate EU funds.
- Ensuring that EU legislation is enforced.
- Representing the EU on the international stage.
The European Commission's traineeship programme is open to graduates from all over the world.
Traineeships are available in a wide range of fields and allow you to see the work of the EU at first hand. The content of the work placement depends largely on the service to which the trainee is assigned. Traineeship opportunities exist in the fields of competition law, human resources, environmental policy, communication, and many others.
Trainees are entrusted with the same type of tasks as newly recruited university graduates. These tasks may include organising working groups and meetings, gathering information and documentation, preparing reports and answering queries, as well as participating in unit meetings and other activities. There will also be other tasks more specific to each department: the work of the Commission's legal experts is quite different from that of the Court of Auditors' economists or Parliament's generalist administrators.
Who can apply: University graduates in any discipline can apply, as long as they already have an official diploma (a certificate can normally be presented if you have not yet received your degree). You do not have to be an EU citizen (a few places are reserved for non-EU nationals), but fluency in two EU languages is usually required. Work experience and postgraduate training are considered a plus, but are not often required.
Duration: 5 months
1,262.68 (updated to 2022) and reimbursement of travel expenses.
Starting dates: 1st of March and 1st of October.

Muchísimas gracias por el contenido!
Bedankt!
Thank you very much !
Hi dears. Thank you for your video and took time for others. It was very helpful advices and empathy from you! I would like to apply for the traineeship so I created an EU login and successfully connected. Unfortunately, application process can not go further. I thought that there is a restriction for asian countries. Thats why it does not work further!
Hello @Yepso! Thank you for this video, I feel like I can better prepare for applications. I have a question and would appreciate your guidance. I did my BA in the United Kingdom from 2020 to 2023. Originally, I was supposed to have a formal graduation in July 2023. However, due to a marking boycott of professors, I received my grades and a "confirmation of an award" in November 2023, having a graduation on February 2024. Consequently, I currently don't have a copy of my diploma but possess a confirmation of my final grade with the dates of my completed BA program. Can I send this, or should I just provide my full academic transcript which shows my completed credits and years of study? Additionally, what month should I specify as the end date of my studies? I understand this is a specific and complex question, but I'm unsure who else to ask. Thank you very much!
Muchas gracias.
If we passed the exams for the certification in a specific language but we still don't have the degree in our hand, are the test results enough to prove our knowldge of the language?
Hi! If I still haven't obtained the Master's degree, can I not include it anywhere? (for instance, the transcript of grades).
Guys I completely forgot to include the table of contents at the top of the PDF document … I did add page numbers and specify what page each document was located on as they gave me the option in the application form. Does that still mean my application will be invalidated?
Hello @Yepso! :) I've got a question about TOEIC ! I was going to submit my application with my TOEIC certificate in the C - section "Informal education" but I've just noticed that it was specified to not put any language certificate in it ... Where can I add it ? In the B - section "Formal Education" ?
Thanks a lot !
Hi Lucie! You should include your TOEIC certificate in the Languages section. You only need to specify your level in the "eligibility" or the "nor declared" (depending on the language) and include the language certificate in the attached files. Remember to create a table of contents and to follow this order:
1. A copy of a valid passport or identity card proving the nationality indicated in the application form.
2. Copies of all university degrees indicated in the application form and/or transcripts from the relevant university (i.e. list of subjects studied each year).
3. Copies of certifications/licenses obtained, as indicated in the application form, if applicable (eg. IT certifications, TOGAF, ITIL, Bar exams, CPA, CFA...).
4. Copies of evidence of all declared work experience in the home country, as indicated in the application form, if applicable.
5. Copies of evidence of all international experience indicated in the application form, if applicable.
Best of luck!
