"Reality is neutral" : that line hit hard. 💯 our mind, which is subjective in nature will always paint a picture based on concepts, while "reality" or the present space and time just is. Most our problems arise from our grasping, our attachment to these concepts and our dissatisfaction. Meditation provides the tools to let the mind be free of it's own delusions, but I encourage this practice to be accommodated by some sort of buddhist philosophy/practice. Meditation is a strong aspect of buddhism, but it is only a piece of the pie.

What I gathered from the talk is that you can never depend on others for your happiness. It doesn't mean they are out to get you, but they are also looking after their own interests. No one's coming to save you, but it's entirely upto you how you wanna structure your life so you can gain optimal results for your own well-being. Starting from the food you put in your body, physical activity, the way you dress, your hobbies and passions, how you speak to yourself everyday, your vices, etc. which are active choices that you can make everyday by disregarding short-term pleasure. It's like as if you were taking care of someone who's life depends on you. And ironically, we prioritize pleasing others over the only person who can affect any change for our betterment....ourself. And what's interesting is that once we learn to look after ourselves, we are in a much better position to help our loved ones. It's just like how the safety instructions in planes tell you to put your oxygen mask on yourself first before you put one on someone else.

It is a great misnomer that most people seek perpetual happiness. It is not possible nor desirable. What most of us seek is fulfillment and contentment while experiencing the full gamut of the human emotional spectrum.

He talks about converting negative to positive. I made up my mind when I was in 4 grade as a child to think life as random, we don’t have control of everything, so being ready for the unexpected kept me at peace ✌️. I truly would like to see all of us love and take care of us all and throw away all these negative things, unfortunately, that’s a dream of mine that will never come true.

remarkable wisdom that very much mirrors my understanding of being happy. it's not a goal, but it's what happens as you clear the clutter of your mind. All the habits are the content that keep someone in a state of unhappiness. When there are few mental habits functioning, you are quite happy. And the hard part is that you cannot delete habits in one sitting, they must be pruned out and killed off over time. It's that time commitment, that I believe separates those who truly want to be happy from those who actually don't want to be happy. Because if you want it, you will put in the time (not effort) required to find it.
