It's interesting how Bravo's sleaziness was apparent even back then, when exploiting Russell's death was "bringing awareness to suicide". It's also important to note that this interview is over 12 yrs. old, long before it became such common knowledge that Bravo was part of NBC/Universal ... hence, _The Today Show_ promoting RHOBH.

I started watching this show based on a recommendation of a colleague. She said quit watching serious TV and reading serious novels and start watching trash TV and read trash novels. I was completely clueless because I only watched for the most part two things on TV at the time housewives first aired. Then I became a fan so that is a whole lot of years to be following these franchises. I definitely had gaps where I would just get completely fried on listening to their BS. And sorry yes it most definitely has been at times borderline scripted. It is fun to get into the vault and makes you really note how much fun the older shows were. I always continue to have mixed feelings.
