Oh! Thats what the numbers are for. The amount of trys you get to dock your boat. The good captains use #1 OR 2. LOL
@Kyle Rhein ……….
🤣 most days 1 try is all I need, but my bone headed days 5 or 6 would be correct
The co-captain at the end... 😲 I selfishly appreciate the captain leaving her on the boat. 🔟/🔟
I like where she rested her hands at the beginning of that.
6/10.
I fell asleep while that guy was trying to get on dock 5. Jeeez!
Fast forward came in useful.
What a sad sight ..How completely clueless must this Nebbish be ?
At least he had plenty of fuel
The Detroit river has some pretty hellish docks with the currents especially when windy.
Been there done that my friend.
You are right - one of the worst was Duffys Tavern in Amherstburg (been closed for a number of years) was a special case to dock at, heavy current and man you HAD to come into the dock hot and then full stop with heavy throttle in reverse! Always made it OK but boy a few times my heart was in my throat!!!! 😆😆😆😆

My wife has yelled at me so many times for not simply telling her what she needs to do and then I'm frustrated when she didn't know what I needed... best advice I can come up with is to make sure your crew knows what is expected of them, especially at the dock and on the ramp. Also buy 4 dock lines and 4 fenders at least people! Come on!
Good advice. As a passenger I sometimes ask what I should do while docking. I’m relieved when they say “just sit there and don’t move”!
Yeah, I ruined an outstanding day out with family by getting frustrated with them not helping. While loading the boat on the trailer it dawned on me, I never briefed them what I needed done. I ate crow, apologized and felt like crap for hours afterwards.
The best advice is just to communicate. If you want something done, ask.
it’s amazing how people can spend all that money on a boat but not $10 a piece for a few dock lines…
And LONG enough dock lines and decent sized fenders - and oh yeah while you are at the marine store buy a BOAT HOOK! I get anxiety watching these people trying to dock without these basic items.
Oh and keep cool, keep a smile on your face and COMMUNICATE with your crew what you are doing! Assign tasks to your crew!
You will have a lot more fun!
😁

In case you were wondering, the tow package on the VW is optional equipment. And no, you should never buy a used VW with a tow hitch.
Just got to say don’t want to be around them people that can’t handle a boat at the docks. Go out on a day when no one is around and practice docking help yourself out.
but is never there fault when it goes wrong tide and current other people in the way
Joke all you want. But the black dude in the VW Stacy-carrier at least can see the trailer when he is backing up. More than I can say about the dudes in the 2WD BroTrucks.
@@strokerace14bp I used to tow my Seadoo with a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3 w/manual transmission. Never had an issue pulling it out of the water.

I’ve used a Volvo C70 vert to launch my SeaDoo made for easy backing down with the top down

I have been boating for over 40 years now. I've always said, if you have nothing to do take a chair and a cooler to the boat ramp, it's better than a comedy show! The way I've always put my boat in is get the boat ready put the crew in the boat, have my wife back us in, deep enough to first start the boat to make sure the motor starts. Then back up enough to float us off. Drive off and pick her up at the end of the dock. Then just reverse it when you come back! Very easy you don't get in anyone's way. And best of all you don't get on someone's CZcams page!
Also , best to teach/show/assign what you want the crew to do during all phases of trailering and docking the boat… And for holy sakes, prepare your dock lines before approaching the dock…!!!
That beetle and ski set up is actually pretty cool. Reminds me of a toy set you would get as a kid.
dat beetle front wheel drive
Wow, the first 8 minutes was painful to watch……..then last guy uses ratchet strap on BOW RAIL to tie up. 🥴🙄😳
Never seen such poor seaman ship in my life rachet strap on yhe bow rail takes the cake 🎂🎂. Why not just remove the kleets
I’m considering moving to Florida and buying a boat so I can be on your channel
Make sure to leave your drain plug out, to ensure coverage!
@@timdake And disengage your brain. :)
Please take a boating class. Don’t be that person
And remember you don’t need any dock lines ready when you approach the dock…!!!
And dont ever use Neutral while docing Never! Always go from Forward directly to Reverse very fast Actually gun it!! Neutral is not good! High revs and either Forward or Reverse! Ok!!
Listen folks never ever have a crew member stand straight up in the bow area when approaching anything at any speed. Always crouch down until you know you are secure to where you are docking
Amen, brother, amen.
People learn the hard way I guess!
@@duff59ful you can kill someone that way, especially if there are bow rails
Apparently he doesn't like his first mate
it amazes me how something that steers from the rear completely baffles people lol
They didn't play all those forklift and boat parking games as kids 😂
I'm getting motion sickness just watching this guy go back and fourth 27 times.
need to drop the word captain!
And just think, these people drive on our roads.
The last boat in the video was a hoot ! No dock lines ready , skipper jumps the big gap to the dock , he ties a cargo strap to the railings and the stern is drifting off the dock and no dock line is visible for the stern ! Sell the boat , landlubber !
These are drivers, not captains.
It’s amazing to me how little people on the boat help docks boat. I’ve come from a lifetime of being on boats and it’s always been the unspoken rule that everyone on the boat (or near on shore) help dock, mooring, or getting the boat on a trailer. Some people’s kids I guess…
I agree. These people are likely just as useless in all aspects of life.
Very well could be the captain's fault for not training them.
@@Studio23Media He may have never even tried to train a little person before.
it's a one person job, you end up with too many chiefs not enough Indians. and my experience is that even with clear instructions nobody knows how to tie a knot around a pole or cleat.
@@DC-si8xw ... And the guy tying a ratchet strap to the boat rail takes the cake.
Love these videos. You are the Eli Gold of calling boat ramps. :p
Ha! The trophy towards the end. No lines or fenders ready and pulls out a ratchet strap! 🤣
And he probably bitched at his wife for not having the ratchet strap at the ready!
He is lucky she didn't tell him to go pound salt and get the frigging strap himself!!!! 😆😆😆😆

I have been watching you videos guys for a some time now - I wonder why all these people 1. do not use fenders and 2. do not have order on a lines when they approach docks. This makes life ALOT easier. Not to mention having a decent boat hook (aka pike pole) on board. This one can literally save your boat or even a life on water...
I’m new to boating and learned I need them the other day. I’ll be purchasing some pretty soon. It does make life easier.
I’d say to the boat fenders most of these boats really don’t need them. They do have rubber on the docks and along the boat, if you’re not slamming into them you shouldn’t have to worry about it. Also depends greatly on the boat and wraps or paint job on it. Most of these boats don’t look to expensive that Iv seen on this channel though! But the poles do help
I have seen everything from "para cord" to "ratchet straps" used as dock lines on this channel. Pretty sad.
I recently used my boat hook at the loading dock & this woman on another boat saw it & said, "𝑾𝒐𝒘, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕'𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒔𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒕" & I was amazed that she thought having a boat hook --- a boat hook! ----- was so dang smart! I consider it to be standard gear, but that's me.
It's like nobody ever has a clue what effect wind and current will have on their approach.
I was always in the habit of stopping in the vicinity while aimed at the dock in neutral to see effects and observe others. Plan from there...
Oh, and my wife is the best first mate ever - she'd have all 4 dock lines on and ready with the boat hook before we were ever near the dock.
That's how it's done! Heck yeah!
Preparation is a wonderful thing.
@RudyF6... Exactly...it's like engineering. Determine wind speed and direction, current if any, and calculate your angle to dock.
Buy extra dock lines and you alleviate all that switch sides crap. I don’t understand boaters who don’t even have lines or have them ready? WTF? It defies logic.
Exactly what i've been thinking! Granpa had a sailingboat and always fenders & lines on both sides
Hell... Some of these idiots don't have dock lines at all, or use things like para-cord or ratchet straps! Sad state of affairs.
🤣 last guy was so bad, pushes milf out of the way, no lines, uses ratchet straps, ties to bow rail hahaha
Lots of these dummies shouldn't own boats. Little kid with no PFD too.
Always remember one of the important boating rules... Don't go faster than you want to hit something at, be it the dock or another boat! 👍⚓ velocity + weight = lots more damage Simply reduce one of the variables and it will = less, if any damage. This is why around the docks, commercial ships go so ungodly slow while docking, and you know they are in a hurry! 😎
Plus the ramp is always right! Haha the boat’s not! Ramp hits HAAAARDEEER! Lol!
I could be captain of the the boat ALLL day long and drink a 18 pack of beer and do a hell of a lot better AND safer than these people. So sad people like this have permission to drive boats risking lives because they simply need to be taught. GREAT CONTENT!
@The Trashman I was trying to not sound like a drunk.....
@@alexritchie492 ... Haha...you're among friends.
I love your videos
Girl at the end you could tell had no idea what to do and the Captain already knew it. They couldn't even get the correct tie ropes. Good stuff
The good news is that the word INCOMPETENT in English is very very similar to the word INCOMPETENTE in Spanish.
In Canada, if you are standing on the dock when another boat approaches. You automatically help. So American to just watch.
Same thing in Sweden. You always help. And people who´s docking have fenders out and lines ready. I believe this is a Florida thing. All americans can't be this bad at boating... :)
@@johanankarback6821 ... I think it may be a saltwater thing. Up here on the Great Lakes if you have six people on a dock, all six will be grabbing lines and helping to secure the boat. Then if you're in the mood, meet them in the bar and buy a round.
@@ohioguy215 That is true...I have sailed the Great Lakes (all but Superior) for 50+ years and that has been my experience both US and Canadian side.
Years ago the wife and I and our kids had a no start on our auxiliary diesel so had to Sail it to the dock. We radioed the dock master and let her know we where taking the end float and would she keep it open. When we approached we were able to luff up, drop the sails and perfectly ease the boat to the dock and just hand off our dock lines to about 10 boaters who saw what we were doing. To my wife and I it was no big deal but a wife at the dock looked at her really huge husband and said "....he docked his boat without an engine AND without yelling at anyone....why can't you do that?...." she walked away. We all had a pretty good laugh at that and still do. All the folks on the dock were power boaters and most of them piled onto our boat with beer and snacks and we had a pretty great evening!
All good and all fun!

@@michaellippmann4474 Great story Mike. And happy to hear the wife gave her husband a good spanking. Rudeness is not acceptable on the docks.
To the rookies, just like BBQ. Low and slow is the best.
I think I just found a new hobby. Gonna take a lawn chair down to the docks and watch the circus. Lol
@8:18, thank you!
Have 4 lines set up before you dock so you don’t have to move lines. Advise your crew of their rolls. Stop your boat so you know the effects of wind and current then position the boat for a straight approach if conditions allow. With twins, use both motors. Always use the furthest outside motor when turning for a tighter turn. One motor at a time.
95% of boaters need lessons in boating....
79th street ratchet ramp for the ratchet straps.
Just amazing how few people ever seem to want to lend a hand from the dock. Where I live, any sight of a boat coming in evokes the help of anyone who is just standing around. And on the second boat, no freaking lines.
The guy in the Mariah needs to learn how to use current and wind. What a dope.
Agree. Totally clueless. He failed on his first attempt, you would think he'd take a different approach..
This is the type of boater that will run into you while your anchored at the sandbar and blame you for it.
If you are ever in a situation where you can’t get the wind or4 current to push you in, get a bow line on right away then point you motor towards the dock. This will pull you right in so you can put a rear line on the dock.
Always fun to watch.
Thanks for adding to a already mundane day.
Hi Broncos Guru you do the boat ramps so so well
what a special of bigger boats say 50ft plus at a marina doing this just to prove its not just trailer boaters the mess up
Wish there had been an internet back in the late seventies, early eighties when we used to boat around the Kent Narrows on the Chesapeake Bay. Used to hang at the Fisherman’s Inn and watch the boats try to tie up with serious current. Could of had my own channel.
Looks like most of these guys get their boat license on the back of a cereal box.
what license??
There are countries with mandatory boet licenses. Depends mostly on size of boat and or power rate of engine. It looks like there is nothing like that in the US. Wonder thats it why it hurts seeing everyone and their grandmother doing very stupid things on those ramps.
I was thinking a Cracker Jacks box!
@@andriessluiter4269 There are licensing requirements _IF_ you are a charter or other commercial vessel. Or over a certain tonnage, although I don't know what that limit is.
Florida now requires boating license for anyone born after January 1, 1989

Easy on the throttle there Captains.
The play by plays is awesome. lol...
That 1st mate at the end.....Ahoy! Permission to board!
No kidding, nice turd cutter hiding away under that dress.
Just amazing how many boat owners think they have front wheel steering.
These docking attempts are maddening.
First time seeing a Mariah boat on this channel, go vintage Mariah!!
Nice old gal hey? They are very touchy on the throttle.
I have never seen such incompetency in docking as I do on this channel!!!!
Nice Mariah at 3.57

Crazy how recreational boaters compared to fisherman dock a boat
The Mariah driver has been out having too much fun
Wowwwwww the maraya boat guy is a real joke 😳 one word folks balsero the only real captain there was the guy with the bug
That last captain leaves the helm, pushes her out of the way, jumps like an idiot, then doesn't even have a line, let alone one tied to the boat. 🤦🏻♂️
🤣🤣 I went back a few seconds because I thought I missed him dropping the line when he jumped, but no, no line to begin with. Even if it's his first time, a move like that may justify a cerebral deficiency evaluation.
And then he tied his ratchet strap to the railing instead of a cleat.
@@imholdenonarope EXACTLY and in a way that it could, and did, slide way high so it could have lots of leverage for ripping the railing off.
@@garygolfer3243 ... I think it may justify a lobotomy.
Had a boss who pulled out an old picture to show me how he launched his 24ft boat back in the day. It was a freakin 1979 doge charger!
I boat alone 80% of the time as I’m a fisherman.
However when I do have a crew that want to ‘assist’, I always have them stand in the centre of the boat while approaching the dock with fenders out.
Particularly in smaller boats, there’s is nothing more frustrating than trying to dock a boat that is listing 45 degrees with everyone reaching for the pier. It throws all your throttle and steering inputs out the window and only makes life harder for the captain. In fact, I usually insist that they stay in the centre of the boat until I have secured her….then they can assist in unloading their stuff out of the boat.
Not always possible with bigger boats of course that can’t be single-handed….but then the listing is less of an issue in that case also.
Best advice I've read here agree 100%
The amount of boating incompetence is astounding.
I don't get why people don't do pre-briefs before getting in a boat (you have "x" job when we dock). To include, before docking, I'll take the boat in like "x" depending on the current. Communication, communication, communication.
Teamwork people. Have lines and fenders ready for approaching dock. The no wake zone gives you ample time to get prepared.
Be safe everyone. 🇺🇸
That dude with the vw knows his engine is in the rear of the car. At least he can see his trailer. He did better than other dudes with trucks.
8:17.
Thats a pretty little dress shes almost wearing!!
Didn't even know you could get a trailer hitch on a Beetle.
You can get a hitch on almost anything - but there might not be much towing capacity. It isn't uncommon to see all sorts of _cars_ (not SUVs/ 4x4's) in the UK and Europe towing campers (caravans), but they are usually small or very small by US standards. ..... Also I saw someone (in the US, NC) recently towing a utility trailer with a mower on it, behind their Mustang! LOL
I've seen trailer hitches installed on corvette's
In Charleston we drop off back trailer in then drive straight on tie down and out
Some one needs to set up a docking class....
I'm very picky on everything. I prefer to do everything myself and have a system. Most of the scratches and dings in my boat are from people trying to help.
Whats with all the angled approaches to the docks? Maybe 1st time boaters?
I don't know what about you guys, but I always prefer to have the wind pulling me off from the dock. Where I live, the wind gets pretty bad, and that way, if u make a mistake you can just stop everything and it will throw u away instead of hitting your boat.
マイアミの人はデットスローとか無いのか?笑笑
You can say that again, lol.
I was your 1k like
No cloo why the skipper on the Mariah had sofa king much trouble?
Those are probably the easiest sterndrives to maneuver anywhere in my humble (having put over 1k hours on one)
Why don’t people in Florida have or use a sliding tongue on their trailers. In Hawaii, a lot of trailers use the sliding tongue, where it extends another 10 feet, and use slide it back when towing. Seems like a good idea for those slippery ramps, your might get away with a 2wd truck also. And the sliding tongue is probably an easy add add on, probably cheaper in Florida too, compared to the cost in Hawaii. Was just curious. Also surprised that a lot of these boaters don’t have their dock lines ready, or they have separate lines for the front and back, why not just one lone line. Just curious.
Good credit for âfew weeks. Why care when the bank will always own it.
damn, securing the rear is way more important to me, if I have current or trouble, once the rear is secure I can use that to drive the front toward the dock
Here in Iowa you pull up to dock guy jump off the boat boat pull away from dock wait for guy to back the trailer in the water then drive the boat on then get the FOOTW
Here in Ohio that's what we do too but better yet there are no docks directly on the ramps. There off to the side of the ramp keeping it clear for loading and launching. Never understood putting docks on a ramp.
When you said "ratchet" straps I really though you were saying like ratchet as in being ratchet. LOL!!!!
I running out of patience watching this dude docking his boat like 20 times. If I can stick my hand in the monitor and smack him a few times that would be great! His wife would agree too.
The last guy is a prime example of my preaching of "just use the mid cleat". It doesn't matter if you use a ratchet strap or dental floss. That way you don't loose control of the bow or stern. Regardless of which way the wind is blowing or the current is running. Nail the mid cleat and you own the boat. And you might not want to drive with your swim ladder down also. Just saying, there's a lot of crap floating around out there that you don't want to hook onto.
Uhh...I think it matters a bit. I wouldn't trust a ratchet strap or dental floss around a cleat in wind or current.
I would like to see a video with jet boats only. I have a jet boat and it is challenging to pull into docks.
A man driving a beetle.. And its a drop top.. Oh and its yellow.
My rule is never travel any faster than the speed you would like to hit something.
At 8.18 dose this remind you of the girl playing tennis poster from the 1970/80
I have a question I am not a boater but shouldn't that child have a life vest on?
Many States require children of certain ages an below have PFDs worn while vessel is underway ( moving ) … Federal Coast Guard requires all children 13 and under to wear a PFD while under way…!!!
A VW as a tow vehicle WTH ? Why does nobody use stern lines there ? You tie the bow off and the stern floats away from the dock.
what are the captains thinking? skipper not leave the boat first and not stop the engine?
Did the guy ever get into dock 5? Sorry i got busy giving my pet fish a bath....
What’s with the ropes ?! Is it expensive in Miami ?
That mom.
There is a good job opportunity there. A few dollars for me to teach some basic docking skills would save these people lots of damage to their boats.
8:16
Yeah
When approaching any dock, have lines on both sides ready to go before approach. This makes life a lot easier and less frantic because you cannot control others who maybe an obstacle.
and small corrections, let the boat do the work.
Have fenders out, and don't use ratchet straps for dock lines!
That orange strap at the end is a cheap harbor freight ratchet strap lol.
At least he tied it to the hand rail, so as not to over-stress the deck cleat
