    The highlight of today's show had to be the folks who were unloading the entire contents of their storage unit into that boat along with 57 loaves of baguette bread, a mattress, a kitchen sink and a partridge in a pear tree! But the 1st mate of the Concept... she had some abs! No wonder they figured she could tug a war with that little boat. No problem there!

    It amazes me that everybody in the boat stands up as they are coming in to the ramp. The line handlers have to stumble over the rest of the crew to get the lines out. It is bad enough that the lines, in many cases, are not attached to the cleats yet.

    Hey Bronco, got some advice for towing.
    Two good ways, have a post ahead of your engines/rudders, or have a self balancing yoke across the transom.
    If you're just tied off to a cleat the tow is always trying to make you turn one way, and if there's any wind it might be very difficult to turn against it without backing and filling, posing risk of entanglement with slack line.
    In this scenario, holding the line is just fine, she's moving to the inside of the turns to assist in steering, replicating a balanced yoke or post, and you should be ready to cut away on short notice, or shorten the lines.
    With such a small tow, in good conditions, it's just fine.
    Here's the yoke, awkward description for a simple device; line tied from cleats on each side near the transom, forming a V behind the boat passing through the eye of the tow line.
    if you turn to port, the eye slides to the port side, increasing drag with the tow on that side and assisting the turn, et visa versa. Straight ahead the tow lines centers itself on the yoke and you have efficient pulling straight ahead with no need for rudder input to counter imbalanced drag.
    Another pro tip, use a long, long long tow line, get your tow out of the prop wash and reduce drag, as well as absorbing shock from the climbing up and down over big waves.

    • @zandemen
      @zandemen Před 3 lety

    Most people don't seem to grasp that bollards, posts and cleats are way stronger than they are. As soon as you get on the dock with a line, wrap it around something and then it doesn't matter what the boat does. What it won't do is pull you into the water. The boat is now attached to the dock.
