    Good advice here. It's easy to think other licenses have cleaner races, which isn't always the case. Learn to dodge the mistakes of others in the rookies and don't sweat your iRating.

    This advice is absolutely correct. I race the IndyCar and Super Formula now, but I learned almost all the fundamental skills for them in the FF1600 series. Those earlier series are so crucial for learning foundational skills like weight transfer and spatial awareness.

    Nice video and I would agree. I rushed thru the oval ranks to A and was very slow. Went back to D running Late Models and ARCA to learn the car and get competitive. I do think that focusing in on a car and track type that you enjoy is the best way.

    Great vid, thanks. I'm fairly new to Iracing and there is not a lot of content giving actual "career advice" (feels weird calling it that!). I've just purchased the Super Formula after running F4 the previous month. GT4 is also tons of fun and very challenging, considering how "easy"GT3 racing is on ACC. I would highly recommend the GT4 endurance races. In those you are racing your own will and concentration more than the competitors, a great challenge!

    • @Ben_LaBroca

    I've played iR for some time now, but this made me realize that in the future I'd like to take part in more shorter races. Long races are cool and all, but if the ir gain at the end will be the same no matter the race length then I'd try to get away with running as short of a race as possible until I have so much irating that keeping on running those races will not result in big ir gains anymore

    When I came over Xbox ACC my priority was speeding through the licences to unlock the GT3. It was a year or two later I discovered some of the free cars are actually very good, and if you get a free car/circuit combo, you’ll get some decent grids too. I’d also say don’t ignore the TCR’s that usually gets decent grids. In fact I’d go as far as saying the TCR and GT4 series go well together, and they often share the same circuits.

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  Před 9 měsíci

      @Ben_LaBroca  Před 9 měsíci

      I went through this too - to the point I didn't want to race too much in case I lost rating. I've now consciously moved on from caring about it at all. It's just a tool to match you with other drivers of similar speed - the racing is what matters!

    Agree 100% that people focus too much on getting out of rookies. I would just add that you don't have to "move up" at any level. Some of the best series and cars are in the D and C license classes. Just enjoy them and learn. I went all the way to A road, and then made my way back to TCRs. The slower stuff is more fun to me.

    A pairing you might consider at the D level is the Skip Barber and Mustang Skip Barber. They run the same tracks and at opposite ends of the hour. Giving you an open wheel and tin top with one set of track purchases and two cars.

    The temptation to just skip all the juniour formulas after racing GT's because of Super Formula, after watching this you brought me back to reality, not a fan of the Ray1600 or the Vee so might have to try the F4 car after this season.

    I just got out of rookies after like 3 mazda races but I definitely feel I moved up too quickly
    The F4 cars move around so much that if either I or anyone around me so much as brakes 2 metres too late or has a tiny bit of lateral load in the braking zone, both our cars crumple like tin cans.
    As someone who has done plenty of sim racing at a high level (just below professional esports) in leagues in other sims, but still a beginner in iRacing, does anyone have any advice in how to improve my control over circumstances in cars that move around a lot like F4s and FF1600 etc?

Like I've never driven other than going to Walmart I have no clue how to even know if I'm getting better. Not a single CZcams actually has a full training guide to follow just lots of dumb tips over and over. They're pretty well useless when you're starting from 0 experience.

    Set yourself a goal. That's the most important thing. Whether it be a lap time for every race of the season or your place in the standings at the end of the season. Practice Practice Practice. With the amount of information available to you, there's no excuse for sucking so bad. If you're coming into this with a 'it's just a game' mindset, you've already failed yourself and the drivers around you.
