Delboy's Garage, How-to 'Stubby' a Yoshi Race can.

  • We all like 'stubby' exhaust cans, they look better, and sound better too, and some are dead easy to chop down in length, they are just two stainless caps and a central tube. The Yoshimura RS-3 race can however, is internally welded and has cast alloy end caps that are pressed in, but there are no jobs that cannot be surmounted with a beer and some contemplation... i made it happen, and here's how.! Enjoy.

    Ok. My arms are like rubber today. Holy Yoshi! My canister was built like a German tank. I completed the stubby conversion but I could not believe all the packing, screens, and hardness of tube inside. Three blades used. I finally got end cap into new short section and it’s so tight I did not use rivets or anything. If it blows up I’m just going to order a Delkrvic 9” inch can. I enjoyed the challenge but man you made it look much easier.

      Glad you got it sussed in the end buddy, its never as easy as it looks, but super rewarding when oyu hve it all finished... i would pop a rivet or two in the end anyway, it'd be a shame to lose it after all that work..! Good luck,, and thanks for your support.. Del.

    Just seen this video, it is great to see someone with decent handskills working on a motorcycle. A man after my own heart. I have been deliberating over whether to do this on my bike, and I will certainly be reaching for the hacksaw now that you have demonstrated this task in a logical and sensible way . Much appreciated, keep up the good work

    Trevor, thanks great news, im so glad it worked for you mate, this is the exact reason i started the channel and load up videos to help others out...the projects are just for fun, but the "How-To" vids are there to spread a little insight to help folks realise how simple it can be to do it yourself. not to mention keep your bike on the road in these hard times.... well done again buddy, ride it like you stolled it....love the other mods too, ill bet thats proper bonkers...cheers, Del.

  • @Moonfleet41
    @Moonfleet41  Před 11 lety

    Thanks mate, Simple hand tools come before power tools, and using a brace and bit is a lot more satisfying than an air drill....too many people dont even own a hack saw, let alone know how to use it effectively..just reach for the disc cutter....and on top of all that, it shows that all jobs can be done without modern power tools, so come the apocalypse, we'll be ok..lol. cheers mate, Del.

    Hi mate, you can't remove the baffle as it doesn't have one! A standard Bandit can is a multi chambered silencer, the gases go through a maze of different chambers inside the can, weaving left & right as it goes, but you can buy a cheap after market can from E-Bay very cheaply and cut it down as in the video... good luck, Del

    Hi mate, any can that has a straight through central tube and at least one riveted on end cap can be cut down...the rule of thumb is not to cut below 11" as the thing becomes horribly loud and unpleasant! ...but generally I would suggest taking 1/3rd of the can first as you can cut more, but you can't add it back on if it's too short! LOL! Good luck with it, hope it goes well, Del

    Best recommendation I can give is before you cut it to the length you want make a cut half way along as a practice cut, if it goes well you'll get the second one right and if you screw it up you've still got a second chance... good luck with it, Cheers Del

    'Legality' is all in the level of sound and whether it leaks gas or not....Yoshi cans are a very well made item and make a great subdued sound, the decibel level is about 95db at full length and not a lot more if you keep it to 11" or longer... make sure it has no "for off road use only" stamps on it, doesn't leak from any joints, and you're good to go...

    Yeah it would work just as well, you would need to just make sure you cut the carbon carefully, as it is a cloth with resin in it after all, im sure if you make a test cut in the intended waste area first you'll make a good job of it.. good luck with it.. Del.

    I've been looking at any info Del,obviously including yourself,about cans.I've just picked up a '97 VFR750,with a new Delkevic 9 inch,high level,stubby can.It looks the biz,but the noise is doing my brain in.Even with the baffle in.I've tried subbing this for an open end,hillbilly wrapped baffle.This just makes it run worse.Gonna try some other combination and see how it goes.If not,Ebay here I come(not again says the wife.Well this would happen if I actually told her).Stay safe.

      Really thinking about getting a deviliks why is the noise doing your head in? Too loud?

    • @greggferns3278
      @greggferns3278 Před 8 lety

      It's very rough and raw.I've had loud cans which have been deep and kinda bass sounding but this thing is gutteral.That being said,I think I must be getting used to it,since I don't seem to notice it as much.It's like an angle grinder in a metal dustbin.You might like it.Best of luck

    Watched this video a number of times now and set to my exhaust on my fazer1000 yesterday (sp engineering oval) and voila 1hr later lovely little 10" stubby exhaust that sounds awesome.
    Thanks for the tips and inspiration to just get on and get stuck in.
    Hacksaw tips helped too to make sure I got the edge nice and straight on the first go with only a brief file to smooth the edge required.
    Keep up the good work.
    Only problem now is I keep looking at the Fazer and thinking hmmmm I wonder how it would look if....
