    When soldering wires, you want to heat from the bottom. Heat rises. The joint at 24 minutes looks cold. Especially with the brick drawing the heat away.

    i put in a new wirein harness way back in 1976 , the shop where i got still sells them , it is still good except for the headlight section and the 4 screw bar where headlights hook to on side firewalls L&R harness was 370.00 in 1976 now they cost 800.00 plus so i will be fixing it OR you can buy headlight section for $88 from chevs of 40s / i found a good light switch orignal type / the mexican one works but looks cheap great vids !

    I have enjoyed and learned from your video series on the 48 Chevy. I have a 49 and while different in a lot of ways, they are similar in a lot of ways also. Please show as many videos of this car as you can make. I will watch them.

    Wet the tip-off the soldering gun with solderand put the flux on both wires you are connecting. Btw electricity does not flow current flows. Solder is not a good conductor it is just a binder to hold the wires together. Flux cleans so you get a much better mechanical connection. I just remembered this is not your car so just make it work?

    • @TheJayhawker
      @TheJayhawker  Před 2 lety

      The statement "solder is not a good conductor" made about as much sense as a screen door on a submarine so I set out to prove you right. Checking resistance of my test leads touching is 0.2 ohms, I unwound as much as 3 feet of solder and the resistance across the 3 feet of it is 0.2 ohms. It's an excellent conductor. I appreciate you watching my videos and leaving comments but if all you look for is the fault in people maybe you should go somewhere else because I'm not perfect and haven't yet claimed to be. God loves you, therefore I love you, maybe it's time you love yourself.

    Thank you for the very informative video, good work!
    I have a 47 Chevy coupe and I'm interested in doing the same thing. May I ask what your cost of the kit/parts used was?

    • @TheJayhawker
      @TheJayhawker  Před 4 lety +1

      If you're interested in doing just the harness that I did in the video it takes about $200 in parts. I will be doing a few other bits and pieces so I ordered more than I needed. I got the parts from YNZ Yesterdays Parts. If you want to redo your entire car a full original harness is available from parts houses like chevs of the 40's for around $700. But I also really enjoy doing the work. If you ever need help shoot me an email.

    Where do I go to buy wire as I need to rewire my 49 chevy? Thank you.

    Your videos are the best hands down! How did you figure out the wire gauge size and amount you needed to purchase. Could you provide that info on what needs to be exactly ordered? I want to do the same project on my 48 Aerosedan. Thanks.

    • @TheJayhawker
      @TheJayhawker  Před 3 lety +2

      I used the original wires for the sizes and had to use the manual wiring schematic for the correct colors because these were too faded. I ordered more than I needed to keep some on hand. I'll have to get back to you on how much it actually took to do the job.

    I really enjoyed the video! What supplier did you use to order the cloth covered wire and other materials? I have a 1950 Chevy 3100, 1/2 ton and I want to rewire before I put it back on the road. Thanks and I look forward to more videos. Have a great evening and stay safe!
