  • Sometimes things just don't work out. That was my experience with CREAVE Blemish Control Cleanser. Rather than reducing breakouts it created them. HOWEVER just because something didn't work for me doesn't to mean it won't be beneficial for you. If you have used this and found it great, let me know! The same if it was negative. I'm so glad you made this video because I always feel so silly when I tell people that I can't use CeraVe or Cetaphil products because they break me out horribly and I'm met with a chorus of people saying "Oh it can't be that! We just don't know all that is in a product. Frankly, I would like tonus only European products or American products that declare that they submit to EU standards. And still there is so much unknown. I just saw a inheritance youtuber say it was sy.... acid that was too strong and making the break out worse. Then there is the whole plastic leaching into the products and altering the chemical state of the product. Plastic comes from petroleum products. Also many of the skin care, make up and medicines should never be stored in the bathroom. I bring mine to the bathroom in a dorm caddy. I think the FDA has only banned 11 ingredients whereas the EU has banned 1200 ingredients. If I'm in a hurry and need it NOW then I grab NO. 7 products (you can find them in Walgreens)

Salicylic Acid when you're on Tretinoin has to be used carefully and sparingly. The brand isn't to blame... you're overworking your skin.
I use it only every 3rd morning after applying my retinoid every night, and it's really lovely. But if I use an SA cleanser too often or in the evening before I apply my retinoid I get these exact breakouts.
    I'm sorry this happened!

It cleared up the redness and the pimples in no time. We continue to use it whenever our faces seems to be getting red again. Azelaic acid might help the redness but I don’t think it will work for the pimples that may also develop. Your upper cheeks have little tissue to have enough sebum to create acne. You r so right it's so important to choose skin care products meant for your skin type. Your skin loves hydration ie, hyaluronic serum, vitamin C, peptides.

Wayne, pores don’t get clogged overnight. It takes weeks for oil and dead skin cells to build up enough to clog a pore and cause a pustule. It is more likely that the salicylic acid was causing purging. That means the product was doing what it was meant to do; clean out your pores. The Paula’s Choice BHA liquid does the same to me when I haven’t used it in a while. I welcome all the debris coming up usually in the form of tiny pustules. It is highly unlikely that this product is clogging your pores.

I second this. You are supposed to give a product 2 full weeks unless you have a severe allergic reaction. After 2 weeks, it should slowly clear up. I was always taught it takes time for your skins to adjust to the different ph level created by new products. As a rule I give someone one full month to see how my skin adjusts. I have extremely sensitive skin and I'm 44. This method of testing always works out.

I always felt weird because I seem to be one of the only people who can't use Cera Ve because of something in their formula REALLY upsets my skin. It is a holy grail to most people, but I get weird itchy patches and scaley thickened skin on my eyelids when I use it. And same as you, it took me forever to figure out what was causing it, because I had never heard anything but lovely things about the whole line. They have a foaming SA cleanser (not the hydrating) that doesn’t say blemish control. It says for normal skin, but it has SA. My boys and I all use it (14,19, 22, and 55F) and we love it. Blemishes clear easily, the more sensitive boy is fine, I see reduced hyperpigmentation. We’re all European redheads to varying degrees, in a temperate US upper Midwest climate. For what it’s worth. Using softened water and PM lotion from CeraVe. It’s been about a month.

Salicylic acid cleansers on dry skin can dry you out even more and may create more issues with your skin (irritation, redness, increased breakouts). Switch to a gentle cleanser and save the SA cleanser to 2 or 3 times a week. As an Aesthetician, I always prefer my clients use gentle cleansers and then use serums as correctives and preventatives.

Perioral dermatitis is closely related to rosacea so it’s not something you want to trigger it or mess with. Vanicream cleanser is so gentle and works really well. Same for their moisturizers. I recommend this brand for anyone with very sensitive skin. It has none of the usual chemicals that trigger reactions.

I am 62 with normal to still slightly oily skin, no wrinkles and very few, very light lines. I use the gentle lotion form of CeraVe, and sometimes the gentle foaming cleanser in the summer, with my Flawless cleansing tool. The lotion CeraVe cleanser cleans my face without stripping or making it feel tight. I’ve been using this one for about four years now, and am very happy with it. I also use a rose and glycerin facial toner from Heritage Store (or Heritage House, I forget), their Rose Water and Hyaluronic Acid facial mist, and serums from The Ordinary, and I’ve had such good luck with my skin care routine. Plus, I use Differen about 2 to 3 nights a week. CeraVe also has a retinol serum that I sometimes use when I’m out of Differen, and I like CeraVe’s tinted sunscreen. Just a thought...have not used this, do use all the other cerave cleansers, all good. But... the one here has hectorite clay in it, which draws out impurities rather quickly. ii've been using bentonite clay in healing baths for months due to an unexplained hives inflammation...and it got worse before it got better, as the clay drew out histamines and other cooties, leaving no further scars or itches. Methinks this is too strong for some regardless of short application time, and/or was getting buried crud out from deeper dermis layers.
