After years of not having a new game Donkey Kong Sr. is just listening to his old, outdated 8-bit theme song on his old, outdated record player thinking about the glory days in the arcades and NES when he was still a major Nintendo franchise. Then, out of nowhere, his son, Donkey Kong Jr. takes over like all next generations with his fresh, exciting 16-bit theme song to go with his fresh, exciting 16-bit graphics and puts the Kongs back on the map. Can you feel the epic in this poetry?
@ryan jones In DK 64, Cranky refers to DK as his son, but I interpreted it as Cranky being the one who raised DK and not necessarily being his biological father. So to clarify, Cranky is DK's grandfather, but he raised him like a son.

This intro alone meant so much to me as a kid and strangely impacted me in so many ways. I always dreamed of having like an amazing tree house hut in a jungle because of this lol.
Hopefully we will end up getting a Donkey Kong spinoff movie and have something similar to this video be the intro. Plus It’d be awesome to have King K. Rool more integrated into the Mario universe (at least the movie Mario universe anyway) since he’s usually sidelined to the Donkey Kong Games, he did appear in Mario Sluggers for the Wii though. Hopefully we also get a mainline Mario title in the future that applies the Mario movie world logic to the actual games, imagine playing as Mario and having one of the worlds be Donkey Kong Island where you have to challenge Donkey Kong and then after you beat him you both team up to fight King K. Rool as he tries taking over DK island, plus having Wario & Waluigi & Daisy would be awesome too, maybe a desert themed world like Sarasaland would be where they appear, and of course you have the standard Luigi, Yoshi, Princess Peach, Sometimes Rosalina, and of course Bowser and his kids that almost always appear in mainline Mario games. Even though they’re standard and that term probably makes it sound a bit boring to some people, the game still wouldn’t feel the same without them. So they’re all worth having in a mainline Mario game that isn’t a spin-off like Mario Kart, Party, Sports, etc. Maybe some Paper Mario characters could even get integrated into this 3d mainline Mario game which would be cool as well, imagine Dementio coming back but in a 3d form, he said this wasn’t the end of him at the end of Super Paper Mario after all. It’d be cool to make the game appear to have Bowser as the main villain of the game like all standard mainline Mario games, only to have Dimentio be the real villain revealed around the end of the game or maybe give him some development mid game working alongside Bowser like he did with Count Bleck or maybe create an entirely new villain character working alongside Bowser that way it’s less predictable.
The beginning of this intro has always struck me as kind of sad. Just an old ape, once enormous and of great strength, now completely alone on the same old girders from his youth against a pitch-black background, reliving his glory days by playing the simplistic music that accompanied him when he was a star.
It is really funny when you see it as the original Donkey Kong on the last level of the arcade game, playing the music and reminiscing only to be interrupted by his son. and then his lines in DKC are priceless, I didn't truly get it when I was a kid then, but now I do and love it. Hell with gaming now I feel Cranky's pain.
I remember renting DKC from Blockbuster when it was new. Everything about it was fun, even the instruction manual. Cranky Kong has funny comments where he generally dislikes everything, including the game itself.
