    Hi! Thanks for watching my video. I am not sure about the cotton fabric. How thick is it? I think it has to be real thin and light. almost sheer but I am not sure. Partly it depends on how much wind is available to you! I say give it a try and see how it goes. It would be a beautiful kite! And you could paint on it! Or dye it.

  • @epicfantasy
    @epicfantasy  Před 16 lety +4

    Hmm, nice. I will look up that paper and maybe give it a try. Been very windy around my parts lately. Would be nice to make another kit. Thanks for checking out my video and if you make a kite with the paper - take some pics and I will post em on my site :)

    @mickey199397 Fabric is possibly too heavy. depends. Plastic or newspaper better becaues it is light. Unless you have really really light fabric.

    @enriqueisthebest no, I don't think tissue paper will work. I think it will tear in the wind. You have to judge this by the exact paper.

  • @epicfantasy
    @epicfantasy  Před 12 lety

    @microkosrae I think you can use any plastic at all. As long as it is big enough. I am not sure what you mean by cut the end of the wood.

  • @epicfantasy
    @epicfantasy  Před 15 lety +1

    Hi! Cloths and felt are out of the question. Just too heavy. You can glue paper to the kiite and it will be fine. but glue is tough to stick to plastic bags, You might try cellophane taping the paper to the bag. The best thing would be to use a large sheet of thin paper and use that to make the kite! Even seen the large sheets of brown packing paper that comes inside shipped boxes? That stuff is perfect. Light and durable.

  • @epicfantasy
    @epicfantasy  Před 13 lety +4

    @jaikahpretty921 Yes, you can make a very nice kite like this that really flies!

  • @fredmiles677
    @fredmiles677 Před 12 lety

    Take a stick and tie on 6 long strings equal distance from each other. buy 300 paper or plastic cone shaped cups or make 300 cones out of computer paper. Tape 50 cones end to end on each string. On the bottom of each cone, opposite the string, slip on a paper clip for weight. In the middle of the stick tie your kite string. It will be both unusual and it WILL fly. I won a competition at the Detroit Science Center with this kite. Fred Miles, Physics Major at M.I.T., and NASA during Apollo.

    @epicfantasy  Před 15 lety +1

    I am not exactly sure what you mean. Do you mean how the crosspiece shoud be bowed like a bow and arrow? I think mine bows a little bit but not a whole lot. It flies great though.

    You know your kites :) I kept this kite making project as simple as possible although a bridle would be a good idea. As far as the bow goes isn't that the horizontal bar?

  • @fredmiles677
    @fredmiles677 Před 12 lety

    The you tie a string at the bottom to the top on the side opposite the sticks. Make that string loose enough that holding it about where the two sticks come together you have around six inches between the kite and your fingers, You will tie your kite string there. I used to always tie a string from one end of the short stick to the other end to make it more bowed. It will bow itself his way, but will be harder to launch. Do not run. Just keep jerk pulling the string. About 25' you will catch air

  • @wingerrrrrrrrr
    @wingerrrrrrrrr Před 3 lety +1

    is the kite string attached at the intersection of the cross pieces? it was off camera at the end when you said to attach it right here. 6:44

  • @epicfantasy
    @epicfantasy  Před 11 lety

    Tie the tail at the very bottom. Lots of string. Use a whole spool.

  • @epicfantasy
    @epicfantasy  Před 13 lety +1

    @zuwyzzxkr21 Yes, it is quite ok to use paper. But, it will be heaviier and more prone to tearing. Plastic is better but paper will work. good luck!

  • @epicfantasy
    @epicfantasy  Před 15 lety +2

    No, I don't think I ever actually took this kite out to fly. But, it is a standard kite making design thats been tested and proven many times. You should be good when making this kite.

    The ones we made always had a piece of string to bend the cross piece like a bow.

    • @1stetson57
      @1stetson57 Před 4 lety

      Actually Ben is quite right if you want a stable flying kite! you Need to bow that cross piece 3" deep in the center on the back side with a piece of string. Make a loop knot and hook it in the notch on one side and tie it off on the other side so string to center stick is 3" deep in the middle. and then attach a 3 foot long piece of string that hooks to the long stick 10" up from the bottom and 5" down from the top thru the paper in the front of the kite and tied off on the long stick at these points. and this string should have about 12" of slack from the center stick of the kite then tie your string to this string about where the cross in the middle of the kite is. Then your kite with some tail attached (old t-shirt strips) will fly nice and stable and fly as high as possible. Don't EVER fly near power lines either!!!!

    Where do I attach the strings to?
    in what angle should the strings be placed so that the kite fly straight and does not swoble and swivle left and right?
    To what corners should I attach the strings?
    Thanks.

  • @Landotter1
    @Landotter1 Před 14 lety

    You forgot adding dihedral. Just tie a piece of string with a loop on each end and tlooping it to the cross spar to bow the spar a little. This will add stability to the kite and make it much more fun. The hole in the middle gag isn't much good. Add a bridle to the front, tied to the crossed wood and the bottom of the kite. Set a loop for the angle and you're done and it will be a stable flying kite. So many times, people forget the basic things that make a kite fly well.... Good vid, though.
