I was in the commnets before they turned them off. What the problem is, is they changed the lore. They made Mufasa is an orphan, crossing out Mufasas speech to Simba about the kings of the past.
They made Mufasa and Scar are no longer brothers, they made Mufasa as adopted. And the speculation is, is that Mufasa stole Scars throne, making Scar the legitimate heir to the throne. Which counters the original of Simba being the rightful king when he wasn't.
As soon as I heard "without a drop of nobility in his blood" I was completely done with it. Disney destroying their lore is a crazy business strategy

Just a theory but this movie might be based on Othello. Although honestly Aladdin seems kind of Othello in scope, and even has a character named Iago lol. But Barry Jenkins saying what he did makes zero sense if this film isn't based on another Shakespeare play that is not Hamlet. This definitely isn't Macbeth or Twelfth Night or A Midsummer Night's Dream. Now I think on it, would be hilarious if they make a Lion King film on all the Shakespear plays...but WAIT, the Scar movie will be Macbeth obviously! And Zira can be Lady Macbeth.

Where we're going, we don't eat toads." Then Mufasa and Simba step through a portal isekai-like to a Pride Lands much like their own but with far fewer toads for eating. "Now we eat antelope."

OH it just occurred to me, the Circle of Life, the very beasts that Mufasa told Simba they use for consumption are what directly killed him. Sure, Scar committed the evil act, but the actual death was inflicted by the stampede.
(By the way there is an anime from this season where a guy is in a world where demi-humans (i.e. beast people) are treated with disrespect but then he's isekai'd to a world where there are also beast-people only there they are not second-class citizens.)

@@jmass4207 Well, the fact that they're doing the whole "Live Action" CG thing again was a bit of a tip-off, given how widely criticized that was with the remake. If the director had any stones, he'd insist on a 2D animated prequel, or at least a non-realistic 3D animated film.

Here's the solution to Disney's problem.
1.) Publish an apology stating that Disney was wrong to focus on a Woke Agenda.
2.) Promise to concentrate on projects and movies that are centered on Traditional Family Entertainment".
3.) Cancel every project that even hints at Wokeness.
4.) During the time it will take to bring out new material, Disney will release a Classic movie to theaters every three weeks at reduced prices.
This will generate revenue during the gap period and will serve as a "reset" for the Company.
It's a drastic move, but necessary.
No Disney needs to focus on having fun with their movies they don't need to worry about the woke because the bottom line people don't even know what the word means anymore

This trailer will a get a lot of dislike comments that they can't shut off when Paramount finally releases the first trailer for Sonic 3, because when the public watches that trailer, the comment section for it will be full of comments from people who will be talking about how pathetic this Mufasa one is when those people can compare it to the trailer for that videogame adaption movie, that soo many people are already very much hyped for. Disney has no chance of shutting those comments off when they will get made because they won't be on a website that Disney has any control over.

I have two sons, a niece, and two nephews who are all under 12 years old. I should be the target market. And yet…
Children aren't interested in the old Disney cartoons e.g The Little Mermaid and The Lion King as they are shown to them when they are under 5 years old and they don't like the cookie-cutter world view anymore. Disney needs Disney adult's to keep the magic alive as they are the ones who had disney in their childhood. The current children aren't bother by Disney. It is too safe. Your parents love Disney but their kids don't like it.
Kind of a moot point all around. Until Disney repairs their reputation they'll continue to see failure. Parents no longer trust them and they continue to produce content that no one wants. So to repair their reputation, they'd have to fundamentally change everything they're doing and the people in charge from the top down. We know full well that's not going to happen and as such everything they're trying to do now will result in failure and/or embarrass them.
Trust is earned as we all know, but once broken regaining trust is a difficult task. Disney is learning this lesson
