The legendary frequency of 198 khz in Long Waves
I saw them live in Dublin a couple weeks ago, and they played this song. This song has been there for me for so many beginnings and ends, defining times of my life; good and bad and with each thing the song grew a different meaning. I guess you could say the song grew up with me. I cried during this song, and I was shocked Alex saw me crying while singing along (I was in the fornt). After the song, he had stated I was crying and that in a way it was moving. I think in that moment of listening to it live, a bit of everything I felt came through throughout all those years. It was the best live concert I've been to and I wish all members of the band--current and retired--thank you for an art like no other
these guys are so underrated their music is way better than a lot of the mainstream. but you know what? im kind of glad, all of the true fans have these guys to them selves :)

i used to listen to franz ferdinand a lot when i was in middle school, now listening again to them makes me realize how deep they were... such amazing music :'(
I think most of us wish we were that cool in middle school.. I remember I listened to rap music even though I hated it just because it's what other kids did. Listening to such a good band at a young age is a gift.

I was in 8th grade when I used to listen to them..I'm glad I listened to various genres of rock bands back then and being not like a typical teenager. But as teens we had better mainstream music as well back then..I loved watching Audioslave, Green day, My Chemical Romance, Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, The Feeling etc. on Mtv and mostly on Vh1 and found Franz Ferdinand in a CD shop..after which I heard it on my walkman all the time.

Been a fan for almost 20 years, since their debut album, and saw them live in 2010. Such a GREAT BAND, going back to these old songs after so long I realize how really good they are. And they are the best live band of their generation (and I saw their counterparts Interpol, Strokes, etc)

This is a fantastic song. If anyone is interested here's what i believe it means.. the protagonist loves the girl but he cannot commit to her. She has perhaps hurt him and he refuses to concede forgiveness, remaining a cold-hearted unbeliever in love. But rather than tell her so, he resorts to cruel behavior to drive her away, telling himself she was cruel and cold first, he doesn't need her and nothing will change once she's gone. But when she does leave, his world shifts towards the dark in ways unexpected and he keenly feels her absence. At end of the song he is surrounded by the ghosts of historic masters of war celebrating his tactical victory as the sound of her receding foorsteps leaves him to his self-imposed isolation.
The melody of the song is like as if she says "everything is fucked up. This is the end." and you are completely okay with that. I love it!
But he's not okay with it. She walks away and his world falls apart.

I don't want to be THAT person but I should point out that indie music is not a genre in terms of sound. The indie genre is music produced independently (from major labels). If we're being technical, the indie sound is actually alternative rock.
This band is soooooo full of surprise, the sound is simply amazing, for me this is one of the most talented band of the 2000's. Every song is a masterpiece!!!
