Bring back Simon Whistler!
I think the “Forgotten Man” subtitle is a play on how long it took to get to Lincoln and how the true Lincoln is forgotten.
Bingo.
Guys! His vampire hunting skills are legendary. You forgot that
Came here to say that. Lol
Dude, you have to let that go.
@@giselematthews7949No? Its a good movie. Chill.
The way he swung that axe 😮
You're not original, just stop 😭
I'd pay to see a wrestling match between Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.
I've considered this exact scenario before. It's a fun one. I think Lincoln's reach would probably prove decisive, but I certainly wouldn't count TR out - the man was an absolute beast.
Old Abe Forgotten? Never!
He'll never be forgotten as a President. But the man he was outside of the Oval Office? Many people don't know about that
He was not a single term president...he was elected and gave an inauguration speech for his second term. Just didn't live very far into it.
Thank you, this bothered me as someone from Illinois.
I wouldn't say he's forgotten. He is one of the first presidents I heard about
It's more when somebody becomes larger than life how the actual person thought and acted is forgotten for the legend like Washington and kennedy
Fascinating alternative view of Lincoln. 👏
However I feel it misses one forgotten key Lincoln story I read in an old Frank Bettger self-help book.
Lincoln was an up-and-coming lawyer in Illinois and faced a pivotal court case against the mid West's best-known lawyer.
The case was about the bridges the railways wanted to build over the Mississippi (the railroad companies mentioned in this video)... VS the powerful riverboat lobby who sued the railway companies to stop them.
The great mid Western lawyer gave a powerful, eloquent two hour monologue to the jury on the *rights* of the humble and good riverboatmen of the Mississippi. He sat down to rapturous applause.
Lincoln got up and said two sentences:
"What this man has said on rights is entirely true. You just have to consider: do the people going up and down the river have *more* rights than those going across...?"
He sat down and won the court case.
Similar story happened with two speeches at Gettysburg... but Lincoln did a slightly longer speech than his court case one. 😏
Abraham Lincoln's Biography is never complete without mentioning the Gettysburg Address which is arguably the greatest Presidential speech of all time
Thank you for covering Abraham Lincoln. He was a two term president. He didn’t live long enough to see the end of his second term.
"FOUR SCORES!!! And -65- 78 years in the past, I won the civil war with my beard. And now I'm here to whoop your ass!"
Been asking for this one for YEARS! Better late-and-with-a-new-host than never, I believe
He was a fine vampire hunter
He sure could swing an axe
Right?! I'll never forget him, I watch that movie at least twice a year.
Someone already made that joke. Be more creative 😂
Its rings true that our tallest president stood the tallest during an tumultuous period in our history.
Finally! He’s my favorite president. I actually have his signature as a tattoo. Yeah I know that might seem weird to some
3:40 - Chapter 1 - Lincoln was a southerner by birth
6:50 - Chapter 2 - A budding inventor
9:35 - Chapter 3 - The romantic
14:25 - Chapter 4 - Lincoln & food
17:00 - Chapter 5 - The music man
20:25 - Chapter 6 - The reluctant executive
22:45 - Conclusion
How the hell would anyone forget about him? The guy is literally on the penny.
I believe Larry intended to make a philosophical point with the title. It's not that Lincoln is forgotten himself. It's that politicians twist who he was into a symbol, rather than a person with flaws. In that sense, the real man has been forgotten as the historical figure has become mythologized.
Eric, your presentation is getting better!
You still aren't close to Simon, but you are about Karls level.
Keep pushing on, I love seeing you develop more each video
All a matter of getting comfortable. I'm much looser in my own stuff. And in those videos, I can drink bourbon. lol
YES! Been requesting this one For SO long! Thanks guys😊😊😊❤❤
Same!!
A long-awaited video arrives at last! I'm glad you chose to focus on Lincoln's more underappreciated and human traits, rather than the major historical events he is best known for. We've all seen plenty of coverage of his life; hitting a new angle does a lot more for us than treading the more familiar ground.
I thought we settled this already. Abraham Lincoln was a vampire slayer. 😂
Our mistake.
@@Biographicsyour mistake was firing Simon.
@@NickCADA We didn't fire him. He. Left. Nothing I can do about that as I only had a tenuous connection to the company and was dialing out at that point.
@NickCADA man your whole history is just surfing these channels and trolling about how much you simp for Simon. U know he has a ton of other channels right? You know its been 7 months since he decided to leave this one right? Maybe its time to stfu already 🙄
While I do miss Simon he is the host I first got into the channel I think Karl and this gentleman Larry are really enjoyable this is to the Biographics poster I can say as long as you continue to continue to put out good content I and many other people who enjoy this channel will be here for to watch for the foreseeable future and we stand behind you
I wish Simon did Lincoln's video.
Anyone but Karl Smallbrain, don't ever let him back.
Love the us presidents videos this is a great one to come back with!
No matter what else I could say about the man, I have to point out just how tired and worn the poor man looks in every photo of him that I have ever seen.
I imagine the whole civil war thing took a heavy toll on him.
I appreciate that you took the time to speak at length about Lincoln’s personal life, doesn’t get enough attention. However that came at the cost of much of his politics, speeches, and important actions as president.
That was a good bio, really paints a picture. I felt like I was walking in Lincoln’s shoes.
Ah, you missed his stint at wrestling (something he was quite good at), the two men he shared his bed with (at the general store & at the White House when Mary wasn’t around), & his obsession with giants (putting them in at least 2 speeches) & visiting their mounds as a tourist whenever he was in the area
Yeah, I thought about commenting on that, but I believe Karl went on about it in a Geographics video. And I don't think I could quite do it justice, like he did.
@@BiographicsLove your content guys 😊😊😊❤❤❤
ABOUT DAMN TIME! I been requesting this for years.😤😅Thankyou to the writer. My favorite president a man one of the men I tried to pattern myself after. Do not tell a lie be decent in a indecent world. Thankyou for this video.❤
LOVE your videos Eric! You're amazing! And yay! América's greatest president. Hearth please ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I genuinely hate the talk around this movie and especially how Nate and Andis friends and how they're in any way the victims in this, the hospitality industry at that level is almost identical to the fashion industry so he's absolutely done the exist thing in their relationship. He knows how much a year like this could progress her career and he knows when she goes into it that its only for a year. Yes she changes and she has to cancel a lot of social commitments but she's never mean about it, she just stops being such a doormat and they hate that, and are perfectly happy to potentially ruin her career at Runway by keeping her work phone from her.
Yes the main point of the movie is that great ambition leads to great sacrifice and unhappiness, but it's also about how when you choose to be more for yourself then there is a huge chance you will lose everyone around you who doesn't like that you stick up for yourself and you are going to have to live with that.
I genuinely feel like so much of the nuance of the movie is ignored because it's about fashion and is immediately seen as shallow, because that's how almost all of the talk around it is and it's such a basic take. Miranda and Andi are seen as terrible dragon ladies because their ambition is in a shallow and "worthless" field, and Nate/the friends are seen as in the right because Andi by actually having faith in herself and her appearance she's seen as betraying them because they're not progressing at the same rate. Far too often self love is just written off as narcissism especially when it's "unexpected" and it's such bs.
I think you meant to post this somewhere else...
This was a great view of a complex man. It was interesting to here some of the lesser known things about their relationship
I have been subscribed to this channel for nearly 4 years. That was very surprised to see that a video on Abraham Lincoln had not been done. FDR had, JFK had. But not Lincoln. Still, better late than never.
Even Lincoln's killer was done before Abe himself.
@@BiographicsAwesome video
RIP
Abraham Lincoln
(1809-1865)
Sarah was awesome. I wanna think she was something like Catherine parr. She cared for her stepson and became a strong influence in his life
Thank you for the information on him I hope people appreciate it
Gotta admit I was a bit skeptical when y'all lost Simon, but this is great. Different tone, but engaging and informative.
Damn, people are hard on y'all in the comments.
I mean. Fanboys gonna fanboy, am I right? As with everything, it's a learning process. We didn't exactly have Simon's production notes or his production crew, so we just kind of had to make adjustments as we went. I've made it my mission over the last couple months to make the audio as clean and polished as I can, since Jen's team is more focused on making the visuals. That's why I switched from the lav mic. The quality just wasn't there. There's still a lot of work to do before I'm satisfied, but the whole team appreciates your support.
Just not the same vibe
@@Biographics Well just keep in mind how much of a cesspool CZcams comment sections can be, and keep doin' your thing!
Great Video! A lot of new facts about a great man. Nice to hear Mary was more than a deranged woman who really cared about her husband.
Never forget Honest Abe!
*Though he did lie a lot; couple of times…*
Did whistle boy just sell this channel or something
That awkward moment when the powerplant in your town has Abe on the side of it
Jeez I guess it has been a while, I was fully expecting Simon. Anyways can you cover Johnny Cash?
Can y'all please do a video on Rutherford B. Hayes and Chester Arthur
Was that wtitten by a middle school social studies student? Nothing about policys or being president during civil war but glad we know he had a sweet tooth
He may have had his faults but i do believe that his leadership and courage helped the country get though the most tumultous time in their history
Lincoln Anecdote
++++
As a military captain during the Black Hawk War, Lincoln and his men came across an elderly Native man.
His unit wanted to torment and abuse the old man. Lincoln refused to let them. Undaunted, the men protested Lincoln’s order.
Lincoln persisted. He said that if any man wanted to harm the elderly Native man, they would first have to wrestle and defeat him.
His unit protested, saying that it was known that Lincoln was the strongest and best wrestler in the unit.
Lincoln then looked at the men and said “Choose your weapon.”
Literally willing to die for an elderly Native American. A complete stranger.
When has he been "portrayed as a bumbling lawyer"?
Thank you.
Lincoln has been admired by political figures outside the U.S., including German political theorist Karl Marx, Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi, former Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, leader of the Italian Risorgimento, Giuseppe Garibaldi, and Libyan revolutionary Muammar Gaddafi.
Are you going to do an Emperor Aurelian episode?
I'll have to check with the writers.
Ah, gotta love ye olde timey words. “Antebellum” which means “before they took our slaves away”.
Can you do an episode on Jean-Paul Marat?
Definitely not forgotten. He’s by far our greatest president. I’d love to see you do a video on Milton s Hershey, Jeannette Rankin(the first woman elected to the US congress, Nellie Tayloe Ross (first woman elected governor of a US state)
Don't know about "by far". Washington was a major player in getting this country started, and helping to rear it up.
Larry was making a philosophical point about Lincoln being turned into a political symbol as he is remembered today, rather than a person with complex thoughts, troubles, and flaws.
How have we never covered Lincoln?
Finally at long last, a video about Abe Lincoln. If only Simon Cowell could've done this video😤😤😤😤.
Our greatest president. An excellent wordsmith and an open mind.
Great video....thx
Simon quit. It's been months now since he left. Get over it already.
Some people just can't accept change. And will complain and complain Even though The outcome is already done
Yes this! Thank you!
❤😢 I miss Simon doing these videos.
"¡¡¡¡I'M THE BIG BUCK ON THIS LICK!!!!"
Salute to you wonderful, self-educating, "unnaturally strong" Kentuckians out there in CZcamsland.
Finally
This gentleman is SO much better than Carl. I might go back to watching this channel all the time.
I need to visit his gravesite one day, my 4th Great Grand Uncle, Franklin Q Ickes, who was part of the 9th Ohio Cavalry Regiment, Company K was one of his Grave site bodyguards after he was assassinated and was laid to rest
Very personal. Not about the official touchstones of his life. About him.
Abraham Lincoln is who he is. Don’t let a politician tell you otherwise. Do your own research
Wait a minute!!! Biographics never did Lincoln before???
Nope!
@Biographics
Before now, I could have sworn I watched a biographics on him at some point. Mandela Effect if there ever was one.
It was probably about Lee Harvey Oswald.
I think if Lincoln was a good president, It had to have been in no small part to his stepmother. She had books that she let him read and so he was able to form ideas and aspire to be more than just a small time farmer like his father
That is so funny that Simon didn't do this one *beards lol
And a bearded man still presented it. lol
This one was quite overdue. Also perhaps it's better to wait until he passes so that you have his full life story but I would like to hear one about Jimmy Carter
Finally!
Sounds like your saying New Zealand
Justinian Byzantine emperor biography please make video
Given that Abe Lincoln and his wife lost two young children and Abe Lincoln also had to run the war with all the stresses that involved as well as making the kinds of decisions that most of us never have to and that Mary Lincoln had her husband shot in the back of the head right next to her, an experience alone that would unhinge most women, I think your opening comments about their mental health is a little unfair and I say this as an Englishman who served in the army and have been on active service, in fact, I was born in Manchester, Lancashire, England where we have a statue of Abraham Lincoln, given to us by America for the great hardship and unemployment that resulted from Lancashire cotton workers refusing to work with cotton from the south, which is stated on a plaque on the statue, a fact that I and Mancunians and Lancastrians are still very proud of, and I believe that just like Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt, Lincoln was the right man at the right time.
I think like Eric better than Karl at least I can understand him half of the time
Bring simon back
It's been 7 months you can sthu now
@@somejerkbag wow someone is butthurt or just a cunt? Whichever you prefer
He did hate slavery for moral reasons, but figured getting to abolish it wholesale would get him nowhere, so his platform was keeping it from expanding. That was enough for the South to throw a tantrum after he won, despite their attempts to rig it by simply not giving southern voters the option to vote for him.
*Reads* *the* *video* *title:* “BULLSHIT!”
Interesting perspective, but your reference to him as "forgotten" is both wrong and troubling.
Took 6 years to make a Biographics of Abe Lincoln 🤦🏼♂️
Yay the good host!
Abe abolished slavery in North America! 💖😃😃😃
I think the claim of him having a happy marriage is not too accurate.
?
Personally would’ve enjoyed this more without the music.

Been a while since I watch Biographics but what happened to Simon?
He's doing his own thing these days. We had a video posted on TopTenz about what happened.

"The forgotten man"? He's pretty much the only president prior to the 20th century that kids today even know any modicum about.
They only know stopped slavery and most think he was a Democrat.

Thank you i prefer this straight to the point than the younger guys rambling
No offense kal but I honestly like this guy a little better you do a good job but this gentleman has a little better voice for the job
I was just starting to like that Smallwood mf😢
I believe the author did in fact do his own research.
@Biographics Ain't it a script and the host reads it ?
Wrong person. CZcams pulled some shenanigans. I was responding to someone else.
Can we just make this dude the perfect host, he much better than Karl. I actually pay attention to what’s he’s saying and keeps my interest in the topic better than rambling Karl and his cringe jokes.
Who dat?
Vampire hunter.
how can you be a solo co-host?
Where's Simon ?
Go watch a video from 7 months ago when he left. They explain it repeatedly
Story was great, but the presentation is terrible, annoying. Why the looking up as in a poor Zoom meeting. You present straight across the table, as if in person. When looking up or down you create disinterest in your subject/presentation. I've watched several, getting more difficult. I should clarify, it is only the angle of presentation, critical, but you do a great job.
Then, pray tell, WHO freed them?
Ugh, CZcams is being stupid. No idea why my replies are appearing under the wrong comments.
In any case, basically, my camera is on a tripod, and that tripod is on my work station. So I think I need a different mount before too long. I'll have to do some product research.
@@Biographics excellent story, and understood the reply being for someone else. We both know he freed them, a great human and president.
