  • In this session, panelists provided an overview of the United Nations human rights system, as relevant to the United States. The U.S. reports to four UN treaty bodies: the Human Rights Committee, Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Committee against Torture, and Committee on the Rights of the Child; and is monitored by the UN Human Rights Council's special procedures and the Universal Periodic Review. Presenters gave examples of engaging with the UN human rights mechanisms to advance local or national social justice concerns.

THE UNITED STATES WAS RULED TO HAVE ILLEGALLY USED FORCE AGAINST NICARAGUA IN THE 80'S UNDER COWBOY REAGAN BUT THIS ROGUE COUNTRY FLOUTED THE DECISION BY SHEER STRENGTH OF ITS MILITARY AND SECURITY COUNCIL VETO WHICH IT ROUTINELY USES TO RUN ROUGHSHOD OVER INTERNATIONAL LAW WHEN IT FITS ITS PURPOSES. THE SAME GOES FOR ITS SUPPORT OF ISRAEL'S ROLLING OUT OF JEWIISH SETTLEMENTS IN THE PALESTINIAN WEST BANK. OF COURSE, IT VIOLATES ITS OWN CITIZENS RIGHT TO HEALTH DESPITE THE FACT THAT ITS CTIZENS OVERWHELMINGLY FAVOR UNIVERSAL HEALTH. THE US , IN ITS IMPERIAL ROLE IS EMINENTLY UNQUALIFIED TO PONTIFICATE ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS
