Northstar Minis: Oathmark Dwarf Heavy Infantry!

  • Like the video says, I really enjoyed the basic dwarf infantry, so I was curious to see what the heavy ones were like.
    Decked out in heavy chain and plate mail, their weapons of choice include either two handed great weapons or shields paired with a close quarters weapon. There are no ranged choices on this sprue, but there are some optional bits as well as two different types of heads- open faced or fully enclosed, which was a pleasant surprise.
    These kits are completely compatible with the regular dwarf kit as well, giving you a whole lot of options if you want to vary up your dour little warriors. They also could work quite well with the other Northstar kits available across the various ranges they produce, which could probably create some quite unique characters for games like Frostgrave or Dragon Rampant!
    I think these guys would fit in a lot better in a dwarf army with models from other companies more than the basic Oathmark infantry models. Considering how many figures you'd have with a box of each type of dwarf infantry (30 in each!) though, you'd have a pretty decent foundation of a dwarf army as- is...

    This is the kit that will get me into the Oathmark range.

      They're solid models. Even more fun with the basic dwarf kits too! Now we just need some dwarf cavalry of some sort to fight the goblins. Bears? Goats? Slowpokes?

    With some GW Chaos warriors heads, some very decent Chaos dwarves

    Ohhhhh Frostgrave and Oathmark! If only they would scale well with AoS…
    Most of my miniature are GW.
    But I love OathMark and Frostgrave range…
    I have the barbarians, a tad small … in contrast with humans (SteelHelms) in AoS

    Great review. Looks like I'll be ordering a few boxes and taking a look at this manufacturer and game.

    Those bases are rectangular which helps alot with ranking good looking models

      If you got a spare Frostgrave demons sprue, the crossbows there work pretty well with the Heavy infantry dwarfs

    oh i didn't realise that you could make the weapons 2 handed. i guess it looks funny if they are holding war hammers at the base and a sword in their other hand.😬

    They look great! What are the sizes like compared to LOTR Dwarves? I'm thinking to bulk out my dwarf army.

      Probably not to far off I would imagine. I have yet to own any LotR figures- at least from GW!

    • @Jewus19
      @Jewus19 Před rokem

      they are still heroic scale, so bigger heads, hands and weapons than the truescale LOTR dwarves.

      From their fantasy ranges, I really liked the Frostgrave Knights kit. Really fun and versatile kit.
      Scifi, the Stargrave mercenaries by far. Lots of alien bits that mix well across all their other ranges.

    You mention these are smaller than AOS dwarves. I’m considering buying this box to get the torsos and legs and kitbash into AOS Ironbreaker Duardin. Any idea how close in size these Oathmark dwarves really are compared to AOS Duardin? Cheers!

    • @ObscuritiesinMiniature
      @ObscuritiesinMiniature  Před rokem +1

      They'll be smaller for sure, but I think how they're based will play into affect as well.
      It'll also depend on if you're mixing them with older GW dwarf kits, or stuff like the Overlords and naked rune hoarders. I think with the latter two you'll see substantial differences.

    i would love tho put some bearskins on those two-handed dwarves, to look like some mix of berserker and roman signifer.
    one that i don't like about oathmark is that the humans are barely taller than a dwarf, you can see the difference between the frostgrave one and the human footsoldier from oathmark who is is halfway there to dwarfhood with those short legs nad heavy moustache
    also did they announce the orcs already?

    I like the Helmet Heads. Sadly they are smaller than Gw or other Dwarfs.

    Do they scale well with the middle earth sbg dwarfs

    • @ObscuritiesinMiniature
      @ObscuritiesinMiniature  Před 3 lety

      I'd say so. They're a bit more heroically proportioned than the GW ones, but in separate units I think it would be fine.

    Can you give me a link to these. Finding everything but these figures. :-)

      I've been having the best luck getting these via eBay stores. Nobody local has been able to stock them- yet. Hopefully that changes.
      If you're having a tough time finding these, I'd suggest don't try hunting down the Light Elf Infantry or the goblin wolf riders, as they've been even more obnoxious to get! :P

      Sugoi. Had to look up the spelling. 6 years in Japan. I occasionally spent time in Japan while stationed there. Was awesome in the Yokosuka and Atsugi area. Thanks for the link.
