  • The first cavalry unit for Oathmark, I was quite happy to get a chance to start building up the new plastic goblin wolf riders that were recently released.
While I'm not a fan of the proportions of the Oathmark goblins (I'm a sucker for those classic Kev Adams sculpts) there's no denying that they're well sculpted and have a good amount of detail. That detail can carry over perfectly to any other Northstar plastic kits you want to kitbash with these, as much like the entirety of the Frostgrave plastics range these guys are quite compatible with them.
I feel that the style and level of detail of the goblins though is a bit of a clash with the simplicity of the wolves. There's not a lot of sculpted detail on the wolves' bodies. That's not to say they look bad either. They are just a bit simpler in my opinion than the goblins.
Size wise, they're good. The wolfs look big and powerful. Next to a typical human model they look to be quite imposing.
I do like that much like all the other Oathmark kits, you still have a full range of options in how you build these goblins, along with the necessary command parts if you wish to build them alongside your troops.
As a generic set of goblin cavalry, I think these guys are great. I can see them being quite versatile in traditional tabletop RPGs and skirmish games. I'd worry that stylistically they may clash when mixed in with other companies' models. Of course if you get a box of Oathmark goblin infantry, at that point you've got a solid core of green skin goblinoids for just about any game outside of MASSIVE battles.

They look fantastic, 15 of them, you can put 5 spear, 5 swords, 5 bows, at a good price, considering, gw only get 6, i just wish the wolf would have been slimer on belly side. Thanks a lot for the review.

I really want to see one of those wolves painted up as a Dire Corgi.

That's so ridiculous I'll have to do it. I can't guarantee the results actually looking much like a Corgi though...

They don’t look too bad. I still prefer Fenrisian Wolves, but I think pricewise this is a good way to go for goblin wolf cavalry.

I agree- the Fenrisian ones still look better. These look kinda cartoony. But value- wise, there's no complaining. This kit wins in that regard, as well as in the options included.

Someone could take these and make some Oghlah Khan's Hobgoblin Wolf boys!

I thought about it. I need to dig around for some larger/ different bodies to see how that goes.

@@ObscuritiesinMiniature This company makes a bunch of individual wolf rider models in blisters what's different about those from these?

What's up with both Northstar and GW making partially hairless wolves?

    • @ObscuritiesinMiniature
      @ObscuritiesinMiniature  Před 4 lety +2

I've often wondered the same. Ease of pressing the plastic? The new Underworlds wolves are kinda the same deal.
I think the Fenrisian wolves are probably the best wolf kits on the market.

Perhaps the fur rubs off with a little goblin sitting on its back ?

The old GW ones had hair like a poodle. 🐩
These have got a girth bigger than a horse. It's a bit odd. Their cavelry will have to look huge.

Think the wolves are a bit chubby. But can't argue with the value. 15 for £20ish.

Could be interesting to put the goblin arms on the Perry medieval mercenaries to give them a more fantasy vibe, or even put the heads on them to make half-orcs

I have tried it a few times with good results. Looks very good on poor-looking models, the more pathetic the better.

Osprey sticks with 28mm, and go for more realistic and less cartoony figures. Kit bashing is easy with their figure lines.
