RIP Dudley Moore! He was such a joy to watch! Charming and Funny!
At the time Arthur came out in the theaters in 1981, I was 12 years old and being raised in an abusive, dysfunctional household. As a result, I turned towards watching LOTS of TV and went to the movies as a way of providing myself with escape and comfort from my misery.
Back then I was going to the movies with my then best friend. We were a couple of fanatics about the movies. We talked, read, ate, drank, and slept the movies. And we went to the movies together once a week, every week for a lot of years from the 1970s-1980s. We saw literally hundreds upon hundreds of movies over the years.
We tried to see every new movie that came out regardless of plot, genre (he loved horror films, I preferred comedy), critics reviews, who was starring in it, etc. So there was no particular reason we went to see Arthur. It just happened to be a new movie that was just released.
As much as I loved the moviegoing experience in itself, as an abused, neglected child, there were a small handful of movies that managed to hit me in the very right places at the very right time. Arthur was one of those movies. Right from my very first viewing, it quickly became one of my all time favorite movies and remains that to this day. In the following years, whenever Arthur popped up on tv, I'd drop everything to watch it. Today I own the movie on DVD.
So, I say to the cast and crew of Arthur, from the bottom of the heart of an abused boy, thank you all so very, very much.
Sounds like what Greg Turkington might say.. is that you Greg?
@jack fistbump who is Greg turkington?
Not to make anyone feel old but I was 3 years old. I have watched it many times growing up
My father took me to see this movie when i was about 9. He loved it. Every time i watch it I travel back in time to that moment. The theme song song, Dudley Moore and Liza Minelli, the 80’s, New York City, Christopher Cross. For me it’s a wonderful time machine!
I was nine, watched on HBO
I saw this in the theater. Ppl thought I was crazy. I laughed so hard from the opening credits to the end it was insane. That laugh killed me. I have seen it so many times I can quote the whole movie word for word. Still my fav movie of all time.
I always quote Hobson!
stfu old idiot nobody thought you were crazy for laughing at a comedy movie. Get over yourself old lady.
Hard to believe it's been 40+ years since this comedy classic came out! 😂
Congrats!!!!
You must be very proud for watching one of the best comedy movie ever made in cinema history!!!!
When I read that it was Brooke Shields fav that was good enough for me. Thanks Brooke, you know how to pick’em!!
Dudley Moore was brilliant. RIP fine sir.
I remember flying with my family back to Texas from Florida and they were playing this movie on the airplane. I was a kid and I always remembered that beautiful Christopher Cross song playing. Brings back a lot of memories!!
A classic movie comedy. With great stars, great lines, a classic script, music, and direction.
This is when movies were good acting , and great actors !!!!
I'm almost 58 yrs old, and there are very few comedies I've seen over the years in which I've enjoyed so many laughs throughout. IMO, Dudley Moore and Sir John Gielgud should've won Academy Awards for best actor and best supporting actor respectively. No disrespect to Robert De Niro for 'Raging Bull' or Timothy Hutton for 'Ordinary People'. But, wouldn't it have been fun and unexpected for the academy to break with their tired old tradition of always giving the awards to dramas, and snubbing comedies, no matter how great they were?
I remember sneaking back into the theatre with my boyfriend 4 times to see this movie over and over. We loved it.
I saw Arthur 3 times in a row back in 1981... Laughed all the time... excellent movie!!
Arthur sounds like the Joker and Austin Powers 😂😂😂😂
He’s more like Bruce Wayne mixed with Captain jack sparrow
The joker strikes again!
Arthur was a likeable guy. He's rich but he wasn't spoiled. A drunk but a happy drunk. He seems like a fun guy to hang out with.
1981-2021=40 year's ago
I'm going to buy this movie on DVD so that I can watch it over and over and over again. I liked Liza Minelli as the fast-talking shoplifter inside and outside of that store.
I’ve seen this movie 100 times and could see it 100 more! Reminds me of my childhood..The good parts..
OMG, still hilarious 40 years later.
Movie WAY better than trailer portrays it - hit movie!
Yeah, great movie. Not a good trailer.
This was a classic movie. I loved it as a kid and i need to watch it again. Great stuff!
Dudley Moore was hilarious here. At least for me. No 😅 soy un estirado, de esos. Jamás, en la vida. Agur, Gero arte, bye.
The trailer is fairly accurate, in that half the movie is a drunk Arthur laughing at his own comments. Not that there's anything WRONG with that.
Definitely, Joaquin Phoenix got his laugh from Arthur! LOL
Arthur Fleck is what would happen to Arthur Bach if he was born poor
@@lambert2332, it would be like Arthur 2. No money and no laughs. 🤣
@@CurlyFromTheSwirly lol
@@CurlyFromTheSwirly True, the second film had no laughs in it, but you have to admit that John Gielgud's one scene in it was so touching. The one bright spot in an otherwise worthless and pointless film.
@@philipzamora4259,
I don't remember.
Now I have to re-watch it.
He sounds like he has a joker laugh. And his name is Arthur lol
One of my favorite films. I've seen it so many times and I still laugh every time. It combines two of my greatest aspirations, stinking wealth and profound intoxication.
Amen to that, Sir.
I loved this movie a lot Dudley Moore makes me laugh every time I watch this movie
I do a great impression of Dudley Moore as Arthur
Sir John Gielgud as Arthur's butler is hilarious!!
I cry laughing in my sleep thinking of this movie.
Happy 40th anniversary to “Arthur”!
I just saw this movie tonight! I saw it for the first time back then. Back then this movie was the first time I "met" Dudley Moore! :) Great movie. When he died in 2002 I was really surprised, because I thought he died in the 90's!
Absolutely Classic
Just here for the song
"Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" won the Oscar for Best Original Song. It was co-written by Peter Allen, Burt Bacharach, Christopher Cross (who also sang it), and Carole Bayer Sager.
@@Avery_4272 wow 4 people to write one song. That's interesting. Christopher cross was great then
I love this movie. This is a movie you can watch and just enjoy it
I've seen better in that regard.
I haven’t seen either of the Arthur films but based on the two trailers this is by far the superior one. Arthur’s theme is a brilliant piece of music.
Agree. Also, "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" won the 1981 Oscar for Best Original Song. It was co-written by Peter Allen, Burt Bacharach, Christopher Cross (who also sang it), and Carole Bayer Sager.
@@Avery_4272 Burt Bacharach was a master.
I LOVE THIS WHOLE MOVIE
My dad left our mom in ‘79 and stashed his girlfriend in Seattle. I remember as a young kid my dad driving me and my brother to Seattle so he could have alone time with her.
We all went out on the town in ‘81 when this movie came out and it is such a great film and fantastic soundtrack but it does bring up awkward feelings for me when I see clips of it and especially when Christopher Cross comes on the radio. Great movie though ❤
They don't make movies like this anymore.
Not necessarily a bad thing.
@@SirBlackReeds No, some of the newer ones are good too.
Bruh
@@RayoTheTomato What? lol
Sure they do. They literally made a remake of it about a decade ago with Russel Brand and Helen Mirren. It was exactly like this. Vapid and mildly entertaining
An all time classic.
Brings back memories.
I love the butler.
Mr Gilgould.
That laugh 😅...
Saw this masterpiece 5 times i a week when it came out .watching a few scenes refreshes memories so well ❤
One of the most under appreciated comedies of our time. This film is side splitting hilarious. Used to sneak over to a friend’s house when I was a kid to watch this on HBO. 🤣
I was 11 when this movie came out at the movies and I never laughed sooooo hard. I watched over and over again on cable when I was a kid. 😂😂😂😂
Gosh I miss the 70's & 80's! Greatest years of my life.
A classic!
Guessing this was a Christmas release? Takes me back to my childhood as My bachelor father took my sister & I to see this when I was only like 6 or 7 years old so reminds me of my deciest father & fun times with him. (No wonder I have issues, definitely not a kids movie.)
It was actually a summer release. Came out in July of '81.
Watched it tonight...my friend Mike was the Hobson to my Arthur..
One of my favorites of all time 😂
One of the greatest movies ever
Arthur Fleck is the Joker, which is placed in 1981. This comedy movie from 1981 is called 'Arthur'.
Coincidence?
I THINK NOT!
and the poster for this is in the joker movie, they deff got inspiration for this!! and todd made up a story in the director commentary about how he got the name from ''king arthur''. yeah right
ME NEITHER!
No, it wasn’t.
I want to watch this movie purely because I loved Dudley in Santa Claus the movie and because I loved Liza Minnelli’s album Results.
This is my absolute favorite movie.
John Gielgud steals the movie as the butler Hobson. He won an Oscar for his role.
And very well deserved at that. He was brilliant.
Anyone who’s seeing this trailer just watch it, it is one of the best movies
This movie was so 80’s they should’ve called the decade the Arthur’s!!!
Lol... yes where I learned how rich I wasn’t and what Jai alai was!!
@@anonymousposter6671 did you just comment on your own comment
Eh, Stallone and Schwarzenegger were more defining of the decade.
No duh
@@samanthacolucci8595 I guess
I am finally going to watch this movie.
The trailer kinda makes the movie look bad, the way they keep replaying that laugh over and over
Gotta watch this movie which i heard soo much about during the grammies but never watched it.
Sir John got the best lines
5 bags of popcorn 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
I always so related to this movie. I think as a Gemini, I resonated with Arthur because he was like Peter Pan he didn't want to grow up. Can you blame him? Being a grown up in this world sucks! If you could be worth $750 million and have no responsibilities, why would you ever leave it behind? For love... The heart wants what the heart wants 💔
Classic and one of a kind.
Nice watch it done ❤
I was 2 when this movie came out. Never seen it but i remember the song. Just found out yesterday the singers name...Christopher Cross. I remember Sailing too. Its nice to put a face and name to those songs lol
Liza Minelli doesn't get credited in the trailer? WTF?
Lisa looks like lady Gaga and Anne Hathaway had a baby!!
An abomination
*Linda*, not Lisa.
Liza, not Lisa nor Linda.
Linda’s the name of her character in the movie.
No joke
@@JadeHP05 It's Liza with a 'Z' not Lisa with an 'S' because Lisa with an 'S' goes 'sss' not 'zzz'
Aww the memories 🥰
De lo mejor de los 1980
I love this Show
“Orion Pictures presents. Dudley Moore. Liza Minnelli. And John Geglund. “Arthur”.”
Did you know that Carrie Fisher turned down the lead role of Linda Marolla in Arthur before it went to Liza Minnelli?
Carrie would have been a good choice, but Liza was a better fit.
I can't think of any movie more funny than Arthur.
when joker live like bruce wayne
I love this movie 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yike. That laugh....
RIP Dudley Moore.
Thing I don't like about this trailer: they're going to play Dudley Moore's cackle until you're sick of it.
Yeah. Horrible trailer for a great film!
This is such a great movie. Dudley Moore was at the top of his game in this performance as Arthur Bach. Liza Minelli was excellent as was the entire cast.
The big difference between this and the awful 2009 remake was Moore’s Arthur you wanted to hug. Brand’s Arthur you wanted to strangle. 😂
Too much laughter for a trailer ha good film in all!
It's great watch it
The way they fall in love
Love this movie 😅
Me encanta Arthur
I like this movie!
Yes of course and Arthur will always sound very funny to make everyone laugh alot and always he will sound more like the very funny characters from every movie especially Police Academy Movies like Jones, Zed, High tower, Mahony, Captain Lessard and many others including Burt Reynolds and his movies Smoky and the Bandit and along with all celebrities in Cannonball Run.
Lovely Dudley Moore.
So after all Arthur gets the moolah...in the end
God Bless America
.
my Dad. please stay safe for me.
your sun.
sincerely
your son.
.
I watched both. Really sweet
Too much of Dudley's laugh
Отличный фильм!👍
Joaquin Phoenix was probably inspired by him to perform his Joker's laugh lol
That laugh is intolerable
This was tge epitome of 80's excess at the beginning of 80's excess.
The laugh makes me not want to watch the movie
Exactly
Indeed. I was thinking about it, now I'm turned off.
Don't let the laugh fool ya. It's a good movie. It really is.
@Brian Kent that was poor.
hahahahahah
This trailer should be in a try not to laugh challenge because that laugh is contagious af lol so goofy 🤪
Hell!!! YEAH!!!
lol Arthur the Joker took his laugh from Arthur the Arthur.
Hey Guys!
In retrospect, I prefer the serious drunk to the comedic, therefore I'm going to have to go with Nicolas Cage's performance in "Leaving Las Vegas". Besides, I can tolerate the laugh only so many times before being slightly annoyed.
Missed it at the time. Is this one worth my time?🙂
What's the 1st instrumental song called at the beginning of the clip?
Dudley was the best !!!
