    I got on a stone cold flight (the aircraft has been shut off over night and the delay was they had to borrow a GPU for startup) from Santa Fe to Denver, great flight.
    My wife and I got onboard and the airplane was stone cold inside.

    • @christophermclaughlin5650

      It’s usually land altitude of the destination airport set first

    • @pennyspringdoor
      @pennyspringdoor Před rokem +1

      Yep, good point. You were referring to the setting for the cabin altitude unit I guess (around 3:50 into this clip). I've often wondered whether or not it would be better for the cockpit checks/pre-start procedures to include setting the departure airport elevation first (a good time to re-confirm QNH and altimeter settings as well). That way, if an abnormal or emergency did occur, and a return to the field is required, the field elevation is already set on the panel. If this was done, then for a standard flight without any problems, the planned destination cabin pressure setting for the unit could be included as part of the descent checks OR during initial Top Of Climb cruise checks. However, I've insufficient knowledge on such aeronautical matters to provide anything here other than my curiosity as well. And thanks for asking them this question :-)

    • @killz4money
      @killz4money Před rokem

      @@pennyspringdoor this is an excellent formulation of my question indeed! My guess is that at this point, the plane "remembers" the departure field elevation just after you start the engines and will return to this elevation in any case of "off-schedule descent". Again, just conjecture at this point!

    • @pennyspringdoor
      @pennyspringdoor Před rokem

      Interesting deliberation Raygen. Perhaps some state of the art aircraft are designed so that this configuration is automatically set for an originally unplanned return to the departure field, but I don't know. Knowing a little about the Boeing Aircraft Company though, and the intentional part human/part automation features included within their ergonomic designs, my thoughts are that the cabin pressurisation panel would still be likely to include a requirement for pilot(s) to deliberately enter data (in this case airfield data), if only as a set and cross check exercise. Cheers.
