Told ya ;P I've owned a few Esee knives but the Junglas is the only one I kept. I did several modifications to mine though. Most important one was adding a finger choil, but I also etched the logos, removed the coating, polished and then gun-blued it, and I really thinned out the edge for the first 2 inch from the choil for finer work. Oh, and instead of squaring off the back of the knife like most people do (for scraping) I rounded it off to make it eat less batons. I also replaced the scales with wood (although honestly the original scales feel better in hand) and added a shoulder rig for ease of carry.

    Thanks for the review.
I own an ESEE6 for 8 years, and i absolutely love it, paired with an axe, i can do pretty much everything i want in the woods here in France.
But i'm going to French Guyana again (already lived there for a while) and i'm very interested in getting a ESEE Junglas to go hunting/fishing/trekking in the wonderfull Amazonian forest.
When i lived there before i used a small Tramontina machete, but i think this knife , hybrid between a machete and a big knife would be great for the rainforest.
For secondary forest a long machete is good, but in the primary forest, vegetation isn't quite as dense in bushes, it's mostly big high trees, and the problem is more about finding dry wood ( batonning) than cutting small green vegetation, although it happens too, but i think this Junglas can handle it too.
ESEE has a big reputation here (France) in the outdoors community, and it's growing up.
Please excuse my english, i'm doing my best :) bye!

Esee/Rowen 1095 is an excellent knife steel. It holds an edge way longer than the F1 in CoS (an apparent DBK favorite). Sometimes toughness and wear resistance go hand-in-hand when it comes to edge retention. The most wear resistant steel won't hold an edge if it's too brittle at the microscopic level. 1095 stays sharp even after heavy chopping. CoS doesn't.

I have the Esee Junglas with the Esee 3 here at Alaska Raft Connection. Why??? because I bought and paid for them!!! Kidding aside - they are both in hi-viz orange G10 with venom green coating. My 3 is mounted to the Junglas Sheath using the Cordura Moly accessory in companion mode. Mostly Wall Hangers!!! Again Kidding. The reasoning for this pairing is a grab and go when called upon for aircraft crash recovery, boat wreck recovery and Snowmachine recovery. In other words - a tight knit bright colored loss prevention combo that has to be simple, functional, versatile, reliable and ridiculously visible in demanding conditions. This dependable combo truly is an emergency/survival option for remote wilderness response. The Junglas I'd classify as a hybrid Latin Machete + Sami leuku knife featuring a tactical handle (having the 'Tactical' part for emphasis on reducing carry profile more so than in-hand ergos). I am pleased to see you guys liking this knife. One big thing you left out!!! Come on guys... THE SHEATH is exceptional with important features worthy of mention!!! @Randall Adventure Esee - Thanks for a great well thought out product, attention to details with quality control, and reputable customer service with warranty.

He is a folder collector vs. user of higher end stuff like Chris Reeve, ZT, etc. Not really a fixed-blade guy... he asked why I had the Junglas and piggy-backed the E-3 as companion to it on the response wall of the raft shop. My answer was as stated in above commentary. He then went on to inquire if to get one... what would be my advice on the most suitable all-around model. I said that he'd highly likely want to obtain an E-6 and to also consider the hi-viz option. A week later his new E-6 in Orange G10 w/ venom green coating on the blade was in hand for show and tell.

Esee knives are good simple knives. Jeff Randall is one of the best survival instructors in the world. So his designs are legit when it comes to survival situations. Plus the best warranty in the business. No questions asked. You break it they send you a new one.

I think you might like the *Junglas-II,* even better BECAUSE it has damn near perfect balance between handle & blade!
Makes it much easier to use when doing smaller knife stuff.

@@RandallsAdventureESEE Hey...as long as your sending knives out....😂
Jokes aside, I picked one up the other day and haven't been able to stop using it sense.
It's just a really good mix of something that obviously wants to chop, but has the option to be used at regular knife stuff.
I also think it would benefit *greatly* from a dedicated *finger choil,* which I'll definitely be modding in the future!

Just purchased this blade... what can I say after using it twice in the forest? It's hands down One Awesome blade to use. If used properly, it will chop , Baton and make very fine feathers for making a fire. I've seen only a few negative reviews on the junglas , even fails , and what can I honestly say about those reviews ? They say the Blade failed ? I say : You failed the blade - period. Unless there is a heat treatment issue with this blade, there is no reason it should fail unless of course because of user error. Thanx again guys for the great review, and hope you both have a wonderful rest of the week.

I would argue that the benefits ascribed to the softer steel on the large blade are true of soft steel on smaller blades. I don’t really like using high hardness steels except on clean materials like card board.
