Na na, boo boo, my system sounds better than yours do! 😂
LOL!!!
Hi TechnoDad, I bought a marantz 7015 amplifier I went through audyssey, and the bottom 5 speakers are fine. The height speakers or clicking in the amp could you tell me what to do please kind regards Brian 😢
So happy yall played Dune 😂
It's great!
Nice to see you guys hanging out =)
..Great demo and set up guide here. Valuable to many =)
You know this, maaaaan!
Amazing! how simplified this calibration is. Thank you for the all the great work. Can’t wait to try out the app soon.
The hardest thing is to make it simple. We're over 200 iterations of the build and still working on getting it ready for public beta.
Is this going to work with anthem room correction? Thanks@@joentell
What's up my brother, I'm so proud of you for keeping it real and not losing your joy and passion. Life is tough, but you chose to persevere and that's what resonates with your viewers. There's no shame in your game and that's a example we can follow. Thank you for your work, it has been very helpful for me and my home theater
Thanks, D-Nice! I truly appreciate it.
weirdly, with everything going on in your life, with having to restart everything, ive never seen you this excited happy, going back to your roots. :) I've been watching for years im a friend of Michaels (youth man), very happy to see you enjoying life.
Thank you so much!
@@TechnoDad At the end, Joe's lookin jealous as fk because his stuff still doesn't sound as good as yours (after all the tweaking he did over the years), Lol. Rock on TechnoD.
@@wa2368 he has these same speakers and AVR. I've heard his system and it rocks as well. Magic Beans for everyone!!
What going on in his life? I hope he is healthy
This is an awesome video. Firstly it's a Technodad x Joentell collaboration, secondly it's a real world home theatre system and finally it has Magic Beans.
Great video guys!!!! I’m looking forward to the release of Magic Beans!!!!!!
Oh yeah!
I am excited about the magic bean I have been watching for awhile and listen to you guys talk about, now I might be able to try it myself……that’s awesome!
I’m excited for everyone to try it out!
Love the name "Magic Beans". Congratulations on your improvements!!
Thank you!
Good stuff. Definitely interested in a Magic Beans with Dirac video!
Copy that!
That loudness mode tip! Thank you so much, i had no idea that was there.
Happy to help!
If this works the way you're saying it works, this could.be a game changer for home systems. Waiting to find out more!
I've done a lot of work calibrating my room with mini dsp and rew, Ypao but I've always wanted to really get into individual speaker correction to see if I can bump it up a level. This looks really interesting and would just give you that last bit of performance. Looks very interesting.
It is! I can’t wait to watch more movies on this system.
Awesome video. I can't wait to get all the calibration tools to optimize my system. I signed up for the MB Beta, then went on to purchase the Spatial Audio Calibration Toolkit but the 15% off code didn't work. Please advise. Thanks!
The dynamic duo back at it! Channa I'm so jealous you got your system dialed in... Nahhh bro just kidding 😊 I'm excited for you. Can't wait for the release of Joe's Magic Beans room calibration software.
Thank you!
I have watched this video multiple times and am now convinced this is the way. Every calibration system I am aware of only measures a speakers frequency response from the main listening position. But this app measures the speaker independent of the room, the speaker from the main listening position and then reconciles the two in order to create a custom target curve that is individual and specific to YOUR speakers in YOUR room. Why use a target curve developed by someone else using some other speakers in some other room when you can have a custom tailored solution particular to your unique needs? Channa called this the disruptor and I think he's right. I have an RZ50 with DIRAC Live and if True Target is compatible with my AVR, I will be a day one customer. Please keep your fans informed. Subscribed 🍺
Ayyyy! Thank you for watching! I truly appreciate it. And yes, this IS a disruptor. I hope everyone will listen to the information with open ears and understand the process like you have. Thanks again for watching!
I would argue that it doesnt make any difference how it measures right at the speaker because that is not what you hear. The only thing that matters is how it measures in your listening area. Its a room calibration - NOT a speaker calibration, so measuring where you listen is the way. Hence why all the best and biggest manufacturers do it this way
Awesome video, can’t wait to try out magic beans. I just got the Spatial Audio Calibration Toolkit Blu-ray😁😁
Thank you so much! Don't forget to join the owner's Discord to get tips and tricks from fellow users.
@@TechnoDad Will do thanks for letting me know a little the Discord!🤜🏼💥🤛🏼
I'm excited to try Magic Beans. I have all the measuring tool I need as per your recommendations. The only thing different from your recommendation is I have the DaytonAudio UMM-6 Mic. I hope the Dayton mic is not an issue. Can't wait to hear the after calibration results. Question. My Denon has two independent sub outs. Do I still need a miniDSP and REW to get the best sound power out of them?
That's shit sounds incredible and im watching and listening on my phone. Im very impressed. But not surprised you have a good sounding system
This calibration is awesome. I have to work towards preparing my living room for an updated movie experience.
It really is a game changer.
Its nice to see a reviewer who came from a nice theatre set up, who can now can associate with 90% of us who can’t afford large systems. And can connect with us again 👍🏻 and not think cheap systems aren’t worth talking about.
I've been doing this a long time and I know what it's like to have a tight budget. I remember my first system when I was in High School. It was a hodgepodge of speakers but had a decent Denon AVR for Dolby Pro Logic II. It took a few years, but I slowly earned and purchased the other speakers and had my first 5.1 setup back in the mid-90's. I like to buy expensive stuff when I can, but it's not a prerequiste for performance. Thank you for watching!
This was awesome, what a great overview. Would love to see this in relation to Dirac😉
Okay!
OMG I love this stuff so much! Thanks for teaming up and putting out amazing products. Can you please help with a workflow question?
*Do we ALWAYS "Exclude Position" in the MultEQ-X app?
I understand why you did in the video: no Audyssey stuff was run on Channa's system; no EQ was placed on his speakers when True Target was run. But what if the Magic Beans True Target app was recording near field on speakers that did have Audyssey filtering EQ curves applied to them? Since that EQ was coming out during the recording, wouldn't one want to include those filtering curves that produced the original sound signature?
Then True Target's EQs imported to "lay on top" of what was there to begin with.
In this case, would we "Include Position"?
Or... at 6:52 were you going to completely turn off all Audyssey stuff to begin with, to have no filtering EQ on the speakers during your upcoming near field recording?
*Should we ALWAYS turn off Audyssey / other EQ before using True Target?
Thanks Joe and Channa!
I'm watching this video on my pc with a 48" LG oled tv as my monitor and z5500 logitech computer speakers and when Joe was watching that demo and the bass hit.. omg..LOL my 10" sub went ape shit! It was funny as hell. Great work.. What's up with Magic Beans? hmmm :)
Hey Sir, can you tell me if the moving microphone method (near field / MLP) works only with the 0 degree file or can one use the 90 degree file as well (when using this method in REW)? Thanks
I just purchased my Magic Beans/True Target selfie stick and matching shock mount 🤣 Question: What calibration file is Joe using for his UMIK-1? Is it the normal orientation or the 90 degree orientation file? Can't wait to try this in my system 🍺
Hi! He's using the standard file
So there’s 3 packages available for purchase + the hardware.
Is there plans for purchase of only the app?
Benefits vs REW?
Hey Channa, Great video as usual!
1. What were the crossover settings after with “Magic Beans”!!
2.I truly believe you guys have revolutionized the industry with Spatial calibration and “Magic Beans” “Sweeping the Speakers as opposed to the norm🤯‼️
3. The A/V ReceiverCompanies are definitely going to integrate this technique in their future A/V Receivers. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💪👈
Can you do an updated video on the moving mic method and the differences in results between the M - move and the pull out move. And why the pull out method is more effective.
This video is one of the most relevant ones on your channel as it resonates with the average Joe (pun intended) like me. Got to learn alot, and looking forward to getting the Magic Beans down the road.
Btw, @joentell are you by any chance collaborating with SVS on a similar tool? Nick of svs kinda let the cat out of the bag last week in a livestream that they are releasing a similar tool for their subs.......hmmmm
I don't know. I would love to work with SVS though. @@BornIn82
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I spent month to calibrate my system with my umik-1, REW, MSO and Dirac live for final adjustments. I also tried multeq-x, which is a powerful tool if you're just using it for importing your PEQ's. I'm looking forward to use magic beans and to see if there's an improvement over what I did so far.
Wow! That must have taken some time and is probably a big learning curve...
@TechnoDad Absolutely, but the knowledge you gain by learning how to use REW and MSO is priceless. I forgot to mention that I also use a miniDSP 2x4HD. I have to admit that at a certain point of this process, it gets kind of addictive. You're chasing for a perfect result, a perfect curve, perfect bass, perfect etc. but forget to enjoy what you actually started this for...music, movies, games. Your spatial audio toolkit really helps with adding the last finishing touches after a full calibration. Thx for this disc, love it! All the best to you and greetings from germany!
Thankx.
Could you please do a Howto with yamaha ypao also. thank you.
Love to see Magic Beans vs Dirac!
I need to purchase that Spatial Audio calibration toolkit bundle. I’m sure it’ll make a major improvement on my system.
Yes, I'm sure it will! 15% off right now with the code BEANS15
@@TechnoDad Thanks!
Hey, seems to be a real great method/app; i definitely will purchase and try it if it's available🙂
Charles Sprinkle mentioned in the video 'The Moving Mic Measurement Method' that: 'The foam windscreen is important, because it lowers the amount of noise from moving the microphone around that you might encounter!'.
Why you don't use it?
Hey there TD, is magic beans still available, and how do I order it. Thanks in advance.
Why there is no time tag for demo after all the effort? I cannot find it. Is there a demo after? If so what time stamp please.
Nice!! Why is the center channel off-center? What kind of towers are those? New or used?
The TV is off center...I think thta's the problem. Bad installation. The speakers are all new. Monolith Encore T6 towers and C6 Center.
Your place looks similar to my set up when I moved out. Keep your head up and keep moving forward.
What movie was that in the beginning?
Thanks, will do! That's the new Dune movie at the beginning.
Dirac will do what you are trying to accomplish automatically already. It sets different crossovers and levels based on how you speaker measures natively. It will also adjust for phase issues. It will follow the natural response on it if you so choose. And its easy - minimal human errors
Unfortunately, Dirac does not do what Joe’s software does.
At 54, I'm now at a level of equipment that I can't really claim to be super budget. However, I spent at least 30 years on cheaper equipment and always felt like I was getting "most" of the experience. I absolutely LOVE the philosophy delivered with this video. Enjoyment at ANY level.
Ayyyy! Thank you for watching!
Awesome video!!! I make those same sounds when I hear my system lol! Great to see you in good spirits!!! Merry Christmas!!!
Thank you. Happy Holidays!
After watching this video it left me somewhat confused. I have a Marantz Cinema 50 with Dirac Live and it just makes all the changes for me.
If I used your tool does it replace Dirac or on top of Dirac? Also how are the changes made on the Marantz? I also saw an option to export a target curve for Dirac. How does that work?
Hi! You would use this instead of Dirac.
So what does the spatial audio dvd do for a system
Keep this great content coming in Techno Dad!
You got it, David!
What Denon/Marantz receivers will this work with?
Looks very cool!
Pretty much any one that has at the very least a 10 band EQ.
So Magic Beans allows you to do room correction without REW? I'm not suggesting that it's an REW replacement, other than for room correction.
Yes, it allows you to do it without REW. I do recommend REW for more advanced manual calibration methods though. Especially useful with more than one sub.
@joentell Time to get a mic and register for the Magic Beans beta.
Please can you help me pick Focal 300 wlcr vs svs prime pinnacles for my HT build…
After seeing your Frankenstein setup I don’t feel so bad about mine….LOL. The demo over my AirPods is amazing. Magic Beans baby. Bring it on!
Haha! Glad I can help!
Yes channa do those sound comparisons videos
Okay!
Can you output the calibration data to the Denon Audyssey MultEQ Editor App?
No only works with MultEQ-X software on desktop
Hi Chana, is it possible to ask your buddy if he can recommend an audio calibrator in New York ? I'm going to buy your disc, but I would like to have my system calibrated by a professional
Hi D-nice! Joe can do the calibration remotely, but it takes quite a while. He has an email form - technodad.biz/JNTBook
Ok im ready for this! When?!!!!!!!
Still in testing! I'm testing the newer version now!
Yeah, dude…that bass was so tight after EQ. 🤘 Shameless plug with the Magic Beans app, but hot damn, I can’t wait until it drops!! 🙌🌈
Boom boom boom! I can’t wait to do some more binaural comparisons.
Great video, looks like an amazing app. BTW, the inconsistent center channel is probably because its reflecting the sound off of that glass. I would either move the center channel to the edge of that glass or try and cover it with a table cloth or something. Because that center measurement is losing way too much precision. I don't know how it's making its target curve and what its based off of, but I need to find out:) Can you import as target curve instead of PEQ filters?
The center is likely due to what you're saying and/or lobing from the MTM design. Your ELAC won't likely have that because of the concentric design.
Importing the filters = creating a target curve, just a different method. I'm curious if choosing a target curve results in more or less filters vs forcing 10 PEQ's. With the Pro version, we enable exporting to REW with the individual measurements as well as the target curve which can then be imported into MultEQ-X.
I wonder which would give more precision.
I think the target curve will be more accurate. I've done both ways and the PEQ method was never as good even with over 25 PEQs, it could never match the import target method. However, other room correction systems don't use Audyssey's import target curve feature. A target curve on other systems is a guide used to allow the system to EQ to that curve, but in Audyssey, it actually allows full control over a curve from start to finish. This is what makes Audyssey the best room correction software out there right now as far as I'm aware.@@joentell
@@hdmoviesource cool!. I'll have to do some thorough experiments with narrow filters
Filled out the form for beta fingers crossed

Picked up a few tips to turn off with my Dennon receiver. Thanks. Very good advice and video
Yup! I should make a separate video about that...
is there a way to import the room curve to YPAO (Yamaha CX A5100)?
I think it’s a bit more involved for Yamaha. I’ll have to check.
What kind of speakers are you using?
Interesting calibration approach. However, I don't think moving the mic while taking measurements is a good idea. It can raise background noise due to air friction and cause measurement errors, especially phase errors due to a Doppler effect. Better take 3 steady measurements at different heights and let the app take the average.
I also recommend lowering the TV's height and increasing the front height distance. You could also add rear heights hanging from the ceiling.
Is this app available online already?
I've done many MMM and I get reliable and repeatable results. I often compare measurements taken from a Klippel NFS of the same speaker to ensure the method is good. I was taught this method from Charles Sprinkle, the lead designer from Kali Audio. Air friction is negligible considering the distance and volume of the speaker playing the pink noise. Doppler is accounted for via the spatial average. I hear what you're saying though and I appreciate the feedback. Static sweeps also have their disadvantages in that mic placement will have a huge effect on the measurement. It's also slow and prone to user error. Nothing is perfect, but I find MMM the most repeatable.
That is exactly what I was thinking, that moving the mic quickly would add air friction distortion to the measurements. Glad you clarified that!
I’d LOVE Magic Beans v xxxx comparisons
Okay!
Can you explain how measuring right at the speaker will help the end result in the calibration. Since what you are trying to do is correct for the room so it sounds good and measures good at your listening position. IMO how it measures right at it wont help you get a better end net result. Also the moving mic method will introduce alot of noise into the measurements (humans are noisey, unless they do it naked, crack all their bones before hand and hold their breath while measuring. Its a good idea in a sense but humans will ERR.
Sure thing. When you measure at the speaker and then at the MLP, you can figure out how the room is affecting the sound at the MLP. So the software will create a custom target curve based on what your speakers are capable of and what the room is doing to the sound.
I'm assuming Magic Beans will only be useful/work on recent AVR/Processors that except external calibration?
Hi! What AVR do you have? You can use the 10 band Eq settings and enter it into your AVR per speaker as well.
I see, okay. I have a Marantz SR 7010
Sorry if you answered this already but was that the Audyssey mic that came with the receiver or the Audyssey ACM1-X calibrated mic suggested on the Audyssey multiEQ-X website? I'm not sure if these are the same or different mic?
Hi! Great question! The ACM1-X is definitely NOT the same as the mic supplied with your AVR. The ACM1-X is individually calibrated.
@TechnoDad okay and this what you used in the video along with the umic?
@@michaelmoxley7787 No, we just used the UMIK-1 for all measurements, that way we have consistency.
@@TechnoDad I thought you used the Audyssey mic for distances and delay though too?
Okay you used the Audyssey mic at timestamp 19:45. Joe says for levels and delay, but is this the ACM1-X mic or standard Audyssey mic?

@@TechnoDad thank you for the reply , in that case what avr would you recomend. Unless I know it may be a silly question can i connect 4 speakers to 2 speakers output ? The back ones.
Looks like we're all going to love this app to customize our systems. Can you explain how it could imporve a Dirac Live room. I run all custom built matching speakers. Dirac made them sound like high dollor speakers. Dirac did make them to flat for my taste. I hade to adjust the curve a little to match my taste. I think we all would love Dirac compared to Magic Beans.
What AVR do you have?
I had a Onkyo RZ50, but I sent it back. I found a Yamaha a6a for 1200.00. It has 3 Year Protection Plan, Yamaha Factory Refurbished.@@TechnoDad
Hi y'all, can this type of calibration be done to any equipment or do i need a receiver that has this capability? Because my Marantz receiver is like six years old and i can only do Audyssey calibration with the supplied mike in the box which i still have somewhere? Any thoughts and comments welcome and many thanks to you all.
Hi! What model Marantz do you have? If you can use the Audyssey app with your Marantz, then MultEQ-C should work. You can also manually input the data into the 10 band Eq per speaker if the AVR is older.
Thank you Technodad ❤I think I will have to go the manual rt. What would I need to get it done ? I am guessing the app magic beans and the audio disc plus a mic right?

I need to get upstairs and fine tune my line arrays. I just coarse dialed them in quite awhile ago and never got back to fine tune.
Line arrays? That's awesome! I would love to be able to do line arrays.
@@joentell Yes, not just any line arrays, CBT line arrays. 9'-8" tall CBT line arrays.
WOW! Dr. Keele is awesome.@@mfkhometheater7742
That's pretty fancy!!
@@TechnoDad If you are ever in the Austin TX area, let me know, you can come by and have a listen.
I’m very excited and interested. How do you connect the Umik-1 with your iPhone?
The newer ones accept USB-C. The older ones need a specific adapter to Lightning.
And that’s it? Cool.
What speakers are those monoprice??
Yes, T6 towers and C6 Center.
Nice app, Joe! What determines the target curve? How is it calculated?
I'm about to upload a video on my channel that goes more in-depth about that.
@@joentell sounds great man. That app will be a game changer for many! Good job Joe.
the way its explained here is much better Joe N Tell.
Nice!
@TechnoDad i now get what he means by "a personal targrt curve" based on your room and speaker combo and personal taste etc.
I was hung up on calling it a target curve that's generated vs a correction that's generated but I see its just usage of a word that was confusing. Sorry Joe for misunderstanding but it was confusing I the other video.
GUYS CAN I GET THE LINKS FOR ALL THE DEMO VIDS THEY USE ? @32:32 ?
Hi! That specific one is called 'Audiosphere' on the Dolby Atmos Demo disc from 2016. We also used the Amaze demo from that same disc. The other was Dune 2021.
Hi I have a question for you and I like to know what brand name blu Ray player you are using
I am using the LG UBK90 - amzn.to/3Np5HpQ
@@TechnoDad ok thank you for letting me know because I am having trouble with my blu ray player and says can't operate disc
@@chrisohrling149 No problem!
When is the app available in Belgium 😮 or what do we need for that callibration. Nice work guys. Keep going 🎉🎉
It will be available worldwide once it's released.
@@joentell nice . Looking forward to that 👍🥰
Thanks guys.
Thank you, Cheekster!
Im not sure what the difference is between dirac, audyssey and this? Dirac and audyssey are room dependant as well and can tweak the curves to what you like
Check out Joe’s video of pre and post in binaural. Be sure to use headphones - czcams.com/video/MWBKihvBBaA/video.htmlsi=XnVcN-cfWrvokNPn
Dirac has updated their software to adjust the bass and treble of their target curves. They are room and speaker dependent, but they have to figure out what the speaker is doing using other methods since they don't measure nearfield. I think this method is superior.
@@joentell ok thank you I appreciate the reply
Bro your room is much messier than mine😂
Not my place, had to leave my home - czcams.com/video/fl9FAq4UbyI/video.htmlsi=x_5E22DvlOJbz78K
@@TechnoDadsorry didn’t know about it, hope everything works out for you.
@@Herofmine All good, thank you.
Awesome. Techno what Home theater receiver are you using plz
Denon AVR-X6700H - amzn.to/41jQbRL - It's on a huge sale since they announced the newer X6800H.
Where can I find those height speaker poles that extend to the ceiling? Have never seen them before and would be great for my needs since I am not allowed to drill into the walls. Great video!
You're in for a treat. I hear Channa is making a dedicated video on that!
@@joentell Awesome! Thanks!
Video coming out today or tomorrow on them! It wasn’t easy, lol!
Looking forward to it! @@TechnoDad
Yo guys - can I download to Dirac Live on my Onkyo RZ-50? This shit looks awesome guys.
There is a way to move settings over via 10 band eq if the Onkyo has that. I do know that with Dirac on, you are limited in what settings you can change.
This reminds me of watching Karate Kid, wax on, wax off!
Cohesive is a great way to describe when all the speakers disappear and you just experience the sound moving around the room.
That's right! We WANT cohesion and what we don't want is SEPARATION ;) but shhhh! Don't tell the "experts"...
