Just an FYI, that scabbard alone costs $550, so it's definitely not part of the $900 package.

To be fair, many of the images on the website feature scabbards along with the sword, so it's easy to fall into assuming that the scabbard is included.

Well, I pulled the trigger on my first sword thanks to this review. This thing looks amazing. I got the same set up but it Oxblood. CANT WAIT!
Thank you for this. I've been eyeing this beautiful sword in particular (expensive as the venture will be), and the fact that Lockwood's work is getting more public exposure by review makes the triangulation of impressions for that sword line more valid for each video. One has gotta be sure of what they are getting at this price range.

One of the things I love about swords is that there is never a perfect design. There is always a drawback for every positive. It makes the entire practice of sword fighting so much more interesting!
I absolutely love the simple aesthetic of this Lockwood sword especially with the darkened furniture, and the dark forest ranger green grip and scabbard. Now if only I had my own place and the space and $1500 for the sword and gorgeous scabbard just laying around I would hop in KultofAthena right now and order one. Oh and one must get a dark green hooded cloak and other appropriate clothing to wear with this sword. lol
An idea for your videos would be to add a point to where how sharp they can get and what kind of steel it’s made of and like performance tests
thank you for doing a review on a Lockwood. I have seriously considered getting one ever since they went up for sale on KoA, but was leery because I was not that familiar with the brand...

I love my Lockwood. Also Stephen Lockwood is a GREAT merchant. I will deal with him before ever deal with a certain high end sword manufacturer again. REALLY good customer service.
Good stuff sir! Unrelated but also related, what typology do you think the Ablion Svante is? I ask because I was under the impression it was a type XVIIIb as well but it is a very different blade than this sword. I am curious if I am mistaken or how they can both share the same typology but also be so different?

I didnt see any mention on the specifics of the blades design other than blade width. What's the thickness of the blade at the guard? Half way up? Near the tip?
I'm liking what I am seeing, though.
I think a demonstration of the stiffness would be good, too.

Which would cut better...this sword or Albion Mercenary? Also the scabbard adds about $500 to the price. Worth it IMO.
Have you seen any of Mateusz Sulowski's swords? They look great but I haven't seen any reviews out there yet

I don't know if you noticed, but the music sometimes cuts out for a moment. It's like it's lagging or some sort.

Can I ask what your issue was with valiant? I'm seriously considering purchasing a sword from them, especially because they are switching to in house made blades from 6150.
If I made is sound as though I have major issue with Valiant swords, I don't. They are quite nice. There are things that could be improved, but for the price I think they offer really nice swords.

I don't think the difference between type xv and type xviii is defined by cross-section but blade profile because type xv could be hollow ground aswell. I think the difference is more to do with blade profile. Type xv has very straight edges where as type xviii are more curved
You are correct, but it does tend to be the exception from my understanding. the primary difference from blade profile is that the type XVIII tends to be a more flattened diamond as well, again allowing for slightly easier cutting.

Love the video; but I wouldn't consider valiant "mid tier". Maybe there's an argument to be made they're at the lower end of the "high end" sword market, or at the very least the high end of the "mid tier" market - I'll admit they aren't flawless; but I still consider them to be exceptionally fine swords.
Did you soak those mat's overnight...? o.O

Yes, they are used mats, so I gave them more than 24 hours soak.
Where's the chart, Thomas? Where's the chart?! I was excited when you announced you were going to include charts from Vincent Le Chevalier's weapon dynamics computer in future reviews, and this was your first sword review in a long time, but still no chart. You even made this in-depth tutorial on how to make your charts look as pretty as the ones in The Sword - Form and Thought (which is a bit overkill in my humble opinion; I'd settle for a screenshot of the raw graph), but to what end if you're not gonna include the charts in your reviews like you said you would? I'm starting to suspect there's something wrong with the handling of this Lockwood Type XVIIIb...

the bullfrog this one would be considered a bastara sword because there is no space between your hands when grabbing it.
I've never been attracted to longer blades. A max of 31" for me. Preferably 30".
I'm doubtful that this sword is a actually a type XVIIIb considering it's blade design emphasizes the thrust when a type XVIIIb is supposed to be a balance between cut and thrust
@@t3h8ar0n really from what I've heard from other youtubers that have used such a model of sword they usually do say that if favours the thrust over the cut

Prices have got up in the past 6 years.
That is a really nice sword, I did notice that the peen is not as smooth as a peen on an Albion.
Albion grinds their peens to get them smooth.
Way to expensive.... but nice
The sword is beautiful and looks like it's very well made. This maker is INSANE if he thinks $500+ is reasonable for a leather scabbard!!!!! That is more than 50% of the cost of the sword!
