    Today I'm taking a look at a very cool new release from Horizon Hobby under their Losi brand, the Losi Hammer Rey. Launched as a 1/10th scale vehicle the first thing that immediately catches the eye is the size: IT IS HUGE! Mimicking the Casey Currie King of the Hammers race truck, a Trophy Jeep, it takes a lot of full-size styling cues and branding. Some of the licensing partners are KMC wheels, Nitto tires and Baja Designs. Overall the setup is understandable, and I'd say pretty novelty in it being a larger size truck with an incredible amount of detail. Losi durability and parts availability make this a winner in my book. Now, to run it and after that customize it. I think there are some possibilities!
    From the Losi website:
    The Losi Hammer Rey U4 1/10 RTR 4WD Brushless Rock Racer Truck has been designed for pure off-road excellence. This truck features an officially licensed Currie U4 Racer body powered by the Spektrum 3150kV motor and Smart 130A ESC. The Hammer Rey sits on scale KMC wheels, Nitto tires and shocks depicting scale reservoirs shocks. Additional scale details include fire extinguishers, functional light bars, interior, driver figures, faux sway bar, brake calipers/rotors, side mirrors, and more. The Hammer Rey is ideal for victory-minded off-road enthusiasts looking for the top-of-the-line RC experience with the inclusion of AVC and the three-position limiting switch. With the Hammer Rey, Losi continues to push the limits when it comes to scale details, performance and officially licensed products.
    The receiver's built-in AVC (Active Vehicle Control) traction control system works behind the scenes, making hundreds of throttle and steering adjustments per second, so more of the motor's power is translated into ballistic speed and acceleration instead of just flying dirt. The patent pending AVC system adds a level of performance that simply cannot be found with any vehicle from any manufacturer other than Horizon Hobby. Like traction control in your full-scale vehicle, you can activate or deactivate the system on the fly and adjust the level of stability based on driving conditions. Any RC vehicle can go fast and with AVC you can go faster while maintaining optimum stability in all driving conditions.

    When these rigs first came out I thought they were over priced for what they were ….but recently Horizon and Amain have had them on sale .
    Picked one up for $317 tax and shipping from horizon.
    Then Amain had a coupon also on these Hammer Reys…got another one for $281 tax and shipped…couldn’t pass up the deal.
    I actually think they’re much faster than expected and handle ok for the most part…ya can’t take high speed turns by any means but still a very fun rig….i am getting a real sway bar for the rear which should help a lot.

    I think people forget that tenth scale is relative to the original vehicle's size. So tenth scale for a pickup is going to be a very different size than tenth scale for a car or other utility vehicle out there.

    To me, the truck is a scale model of a real vehicle so if it is labelled as 1:10, it should be generally close to the proportions of the real one in terms of length, width, height and wheelbase. The driveline is not based on the real vehicle so that can be sized to suit. I love the way the truck looks and I'm sure it will be popular. As soon as I saw it I was tempted to buy one but I have a Losi product from a few years back that did not live up to my expectations so I haven't made a final decision yet.

    On a whim I picked up a Hammer Rey cage to inspire a KOH scratch build with Vitavon parts and my own choice of electronics. shooting for completion by KOH 2024. Learned from my RYFT experience to work backwards from zero rather than start with an RTR and have a drawer full of discarded parts from Upgrading. Thanks for the video !

    I think that thing is cool! The last couple years I've just been crazy about the Gatekeeper (taking mine for a run today), but this one is possibly even more awesome, slightly different of course!
    Looking forward to see how you paint it, as always. Would have been cool to have something like this come with clear panels, or as a kit altogether, maybe in the future, who knows...

    I am glad to see manufacturer's making tenth scale cars and trucks larger. I have often thought that tenth scale cars and trucks are a little small in the real world. Just Saying. I have bashed my 4tec 2.0 cars for years. I always wished that they were a little bigger. Luckily Traxxas must have been thinking the same thing making them bigger with the 4tec 3.0.

      1/10 scale drivetrain AND electronics. Skipping this one because of it. I’d rather have a 5mm shaft low kv motor on 4s i stead of high kv on only 3s as well.

    @7:20 I just got this (my 1st RC car) and I noticed there's a lot of steering play. Is this normal for an RC car? I dissasembled it (somebody forgot to fit in two screws on a metal part that just fell of, good thing I noticed) and I was testing the steering system by holding each part and moving the wheel. I started with the servo horn, then the connecting rod and so on. What I noticed is that each part in succesion, adds a bit more play until I get to the wheels and the play is significant. Like, the cage holding the servo flexes a bit, the servo hub also flexes a bit since the servo's lid is plastic. Then the connecting rod has a bit of play and so on and so on. Since I broke it (front right C hub and slider) I ordered some GPM alu parts to rebuild the steering, hopefully the result will be less steering play.

    I don’t think people understand how scale works, if the 1/1 scale is huge then the scale down vehicle is going to be huge too, same with the losi promoto, a 1/1 bike is not huge so they had to make it a 1/4 so it is a decent size but if you compare it to other 1/4 is tiny 🙃

  • @raymonde.tanneratomic-rc9370

    • @hemistormrc
      @hemistormrc  Před 2 lety +1

  • @cnorton1137
    @cnorton1137 Před 2 lety +1

    There seems to be an awful lot of talk about “scale” but nobody seems to know what the actual scale is which I find bizarre. Whilst I don’t doubt this truck is brilliant, it clearly is far bigger than one tenth the size of the real thing. There are 10th scale land rover D90s with 13 inch wheelbase (it should be 9 inches).

      @hemistormrc  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, it is math basically. This one comes out at about 1/7 if you take the wheelbase and track width. Thanks for watching!

    The(unsessored?) brushless motor works for sh*t crawling in the rocks, and driving it over 15-mph(150 'scale"mph) is sure to break many of its scale features off in easily foreseeable driver errors. It's a Lasernut with a solid rear axle.
