@rtjh well still, a lot game sequels out there still reuse a lot of things from the previous entry, and that's the point, to build on the established formula to make it better. Have whatever standard you want for a sequel, but it isn't necessary for a game to be completely different in order for a sequel to be good, take mw2 from your cod example. It still uses a lot of reused assets as well, but as long as it's faithful enough or builds on what is already good, then it can be a good game sequel.
You could basically complain about any game reusing assets or animations from previous entry's, but you have to stay consistent with your claims, you don't want to constantly contradict yourself with things you like that don't fully apply to your standards of a sequel
Also, I wouldn't consider far cry 3 to be a sequel of 2, it isn't necessarily building on what's already established. It's a completely different game and not every far cry entry has to follow this pattern if the developers want. Have it your way, but to compare these 2 on the same standard for game sequels is kind of unfair.

Played Farcry New Dawn ? I modded the game to get rid of the annoying bullet sponge effect and the pink flowers, brought guns over from FC5 instead of the broken homemade ones and man it's so good. Visually an eye candy and combat is so pleasing. The highwaymen music just forces you into an adrenalin rush moment.
