- Hey there, welcome to a new DevLog for my indie game Calamity: Farms
This was NOT the most limits I have in mind for weapon systems but I implemented them as soon as I finished editing so I'll do that for tomorrow.
For now though, you're only seeing a smidge of what I actually put on lul.

Here's the deal, make the the melee weapons do area attacks, wide sweeps, long thrusts.
The scythe is good, here's an idea: left click is a horizontal long swipe, right click is a boomrang throw.
If you make a hammer, think big smash, blunt and impactful, maybe knocking back enemies?
Really extrapolate this idea to other weapons, think of it like areas of attack.
The bullets so far look great. I think if you want to do an attachment system, you should make it so that each part has specific effects, and onto the model you have attachment points, that's where scopes and such will attach to. Imagine kinda like when you get an item in risk of rain 2, and it gets put on your character, but its different on every character.
Edit: I added parrying the day I uploaded with their own quirks so I may or may not have an idea
I do like the different areas and ranges, it's like a sniper vs a shotgun but for melee
Lmao yeah we had the same idea with attatchment points, thing is it's more akin to having 50 different survivors instead of 10 lul
melee weapons are just gun that shoot slashes

Proc gen is HARD so Im sticking with having so many enemies it feels proc gen

Ironically I have animations off as much as possible because they're the reason frames get impacted so hard

@@hanoder So did you find some good ideas from it? I suggested mothergunship because "Hundred of guns in a fast paced high octane bullet hell in dark otherwordly biomes" is what describes mothergunship the best. So I suggested you the game for a good refence point although it has dated a lot and isnt considered fast paced anymore after Doom eternal and ultrakill, it was still in its time, fast. The best thing I like about it is the fact that you can have all the power you want all at the cost of your screen visibility, making the game balanced with all it's absurdities. When I looked at your video and plans for guns(attachments being small), I thought to balance you have to severely limit weapon uniqueness or weapon options/modifications to balance. I think that would really force ppl just to use one build that they like than to experiment.
So my idea is make the weapons blocks or blobs, make them craftable, make them simple enough to be attachable to each other, make it that you lose when you go outside to explore and die, you have to farm to craft the weapons. This will solve many problems, repetitiveness, player turning off his brains to shoot, one build to solve it all and "Why farm?". This will also give you flexibility to choose whether you go to ever obvious solo project roguelite evolution or for a curated experience create each level with certain types in mind so ppl do 1 run to see what the level is(as scouting) and the next run taking the curated build to tackle the level. Try to make the crafting and farming less tedious as fast paced players do not mesh well with farming and crafting. Making the "farm, craft, explore, die, repeat" loop smoother can rack a lot of playtime from players.

Don't worry though, the farming and crafting is actually rather seperate from the fast paced shooting, merging the two in the same space I feel would obstruct each other rather than the other way
@@hanoder I thought merging the farming and crafting and exploring be similar to Cult of the Lamb but again this are just suggestions. I am just yapping, feel free to pick up what you like or discard it if it feels like not worth it.

@@hanoder Shure. I mean this 'power techno', e.g. at 0.20, 4.40, 5.19. I know ultrakill has this kind of music (but with a heavy metall riff which makes it better imo) and Prodeus also, I always turn this kind of music off. Anyway this is highly subjective, just my opinion
@@dawidbujaki have sent this information to my advisors, they are actively tracking you and sending you a png of large rat being grabbed by a hand. Will say though, fair amount of it isn't really hand made ost but more rather music my friends are making lul
