Beautiful setup Matt! Looks fancy and very metal with the two kicks. Welcome in the double bass team 🤘🏻
You can really tell it's not a simple commercial agreement. The man knows and loves every single detail about the kit. Congratz Matt.
DW just sold 100 drum kits.. Matt's body of work speaks for itself.
Never understood why these sizes aren't the norm. These are the perfect sizes and very few company's offer these exact sizes as a factory kit.
maybe might wanna change the depths on the 10 and 12 but other than that yeah. perfect
Yep, 10, 12, 14, 16 is really versatile. 22x16 kicks can handle just about any genre without loosing punch and thump. I do hope the rack toms are a little bit deeper though (10x8 and 12x9 for example, but a 9 inch tom can be pretty hard to setup at the right angle/height)
So 2 comments in, and both of you guys would prefer different sizes. You can see the irony right ? 😂
I just got a Yamaha Tour Custom 100% maple kit with similar sizes, 22x16 kick (it's no virgin kick though), 10x7, 12x8, 16x15. A big upgrade over the Chinese Poplar Ludwig Accent CS kit I've been using for ages.
@@ThoR52 we want 1 inch on the 12. But yeah. I got a lot of Iron on my knee
This is hands down the most amazing, and beautiful kit I've ever laid my eyes on! Matt's gotta be on my top 5 drummers all time no cap
Beautiful kit! I love the look of the shells so much!
Amazing! Congratulations brother!
Thanks for this video. I’m in the process of building a Cherry Collectors series and it is nice to see close up some of the stackers and arms you use for your cymbals. Also your show at Mickeys Black Box in Lititz, PA was awesome. Great night and great sound.
That’s a beautiful finish 🔥🔥
Such a cooll video. I'm really happy with this development. Congrats for both. DW and Matt for this combination. ✌🤌🤌
the wood choices are really interesting. Maple, Oak, Maple- Mahogany. Awesome looking kit
Excellent office Matt!!!
Congrats! Killer kit.
That is the most of the beautifulest drum kits I’ve ever seen
This dudes voice is insane. He easily could also be a talented voice actor.
Oh boy, I'm damn excited about that stack.
Finally! And welcome to the family :)
Spot on with the kick drum depth! 18” & 20” deep is a waste of space and more air to move. 16” is best 👍🏻
Remember years ago doing a gig on some Yamaha Oaks. Perfect depth warm balance.
Hybrid rack mount needed for that front crash. Otherwise looks perf!! Gorgeous kit Sir. Congratulations! Looking forward to hearing new music.
boay quit messin around and get yee an 8" tom
Yesssss
Gotta fill out that space above the left kick with more toms >:)
Welcome 2 the family. Its like where related except you got all the talent
We love metal Matt! \M/
Can't wait for *_Metal Matt_* to make a return... now that there are 2 bass drums
I've always liked 16" deep kicks cause they get the front head more involved in the sound. My current kit also has 10x8 and 12x8 rack toms....that's just how the previous owner ordered them. My old Starclassic Maple kit had 14x14 and 16x14 floors which I think are a great size....more depth on the 14" and a little shallower on the 16" cause I felt 16x16 were a little too thuddy. I miss that kit.
gorgeous!
dope kit,
I am totally agree 22×16 on bass drum is the best option!
love the new setup! just out of curiosity, is there any reason you didn't opt to go with a rack instead of toms on stands? You mentioned it being a little weird to get the cymbal stands in between the bass drums so it had me curious!
I see a lot of beautiful looking / sounding tree trunks.. 💜🔥 Awesome finish! 👌🏽 Matt can you do a playthrough of some old AAL tracks like Wave of Babies and Cafo..
Matt! You’re a boss! I loved you with tama but I totally support this call! BUT.....when do we get to see some play-throughs!?
Definitely got to hear the difference between another kit because I know I’m a big maple fan. Sweet set up 🥴
"Gunmetal is pretty metal" - Matt Garstka, 2021
Good on you Matt, for keeping your hi hats in the same zip code. I know that in the past, two bass drums sometimes lead to hi hat neglect. Especially in the metal world. My question to you is, with the new technology of the clamp system, and with a young dude like yourself playing two separate kick drums, do you think that the double kick movement will return?
Love it 😀
Sweet set up Matt!
Totally agree on 16” depth on kick drums. Hopefully DW will begin to offer more 16” deeps on their production kits.
My kick is a Tama 16x22 and oh my god it’s pure bliss. The thump and the punch are incredible.
Agreed, I only use 16" or 14" depth kicks (22x16 or 24x14), 18" doesn't have the same amount of punch as a 16" or a 14". Also the deeper the shell is, the harder and the more consistent your strokes have to be, to deliver a dynamically consistent sound. I also find deeper shells, when mic'd up, can lack low end because the beater head and reso head are even further out of phase, cancelling some of the sub low frequencies.
@@XiyuYang so true never hear people say this, my first kit was a 14" depth been playing on different 18" depth kits for years, it really has helped me improve my foot control, but I really want to try a 14 again
AFAIK DW were the ones who made 22x18 the new standard when they introduced the F.A.S.T. sizes, so I doubt that will happen (unless they start doing more production kits in traditional tom depths). I'm glad I stuck with 22x16, although I did go with a 12x9 tom, which I regret for the same reason Matt went with 12x8.
sweet, congrats
So... Matt had been hitting the gym as well I see! 💪
I get this this just an ad for DW, but I came here for the cymbals, and nothing was said about them
matt i love your trousers :-) and shirt
I wonder how much time you’ve spent just admiring the look of the new kit. It is stunning. Can’t wait to see it live! Congrats on the switch.
Also, did you go chain drive or direct drive on the kick pedals? Interested to hear which you prefer.
If you look closely you can see the chain when he shows em! I wasn’t a DD fan either
I love the new dw kit
Hope to see you play in italy....🙏🏻🙏🏻🇮🇹🇮🇹
This is pretty awesome, but do you think we can hear your optimal/most common drum mic selection for it? That would be very interesting to hear about for me.
NICE!
I'm here with my new gains.
I like how he wants deeper toms. Metal as hell
Hey Matt, super awesome to see you psyched about your switch! Out of curiosity, what got you to go with two bass drums after all this time? Was it a decision based on sound or on feel, or a bit of both?
Obviously I can't speak for Matt, but the clarity from using a dual bass drums instead of a double kick pedal is IMMENSE. Gives you so much clarity while performing and recording. Also, that depth of the drum that Matt speaks about while talking about them is lost when using two pedals on one drum.
@@kahok5ownage definitely agree on those points. Also when having two beaters on one drum, one of the beaters is off center so you don’t get as full of a sound. I personally have always found slave pedals in general to feel awkward, but I’m still curious about Matt’s personal reasoning if he sees this 🤔
@@malachiroberts2992 I struggle with that very restriction using double kick pedals vs dual kicks in terms of even flow.
I'm sticking with my Tama, but I once had a dw kit and you can't go wrong. One of the only things I fear about getting a second kick is setup time, but hey ...go big or go home.
For one: two bass drums allow for more depth/sonic breath on each stroke when playing double kick patterns.
Two: it looks badass:)
Three: the difference between two kicks and a double pedal is not dramatic but it is enough to improve feel.
@@drummusician BOOM!
There ya go :) enjoy that kit, it’s gorgeous, love Maple drums.
I always wanted a purpleheart snare and I'm not a big DW fan but their Purpleheart snares...are NICE
They are incredible and like you…I’m not a huge DW fan, but they hit the jackpot with those snares.
Hells yeah! Question: do you use internal muffling in the toms, or was that shadowplay? And, what type of rest heads do you use?
Matt Garstka, call the new mini-stack the Smack Stack :)
The best play the best! Dw🤘
I took note of Metal Matt's double kicks in the last video 😂 You're talking about moving stands in between the kicks; but you might be in rack territory now especially if you get a sponsor like Gibraltar.
DwDrums are arguably one of the most beautiful sounding kits available out there ... Shit the price tho, but still ... Amazing
AHHHHH I WANT THAT LITTLE STACK SO BADLY
I've been waiting for years to see Matt come to double kick family. Why not add tom 8 and gong bass? Beautiful kit master. Congratulations!
Sick!!!🥁🔚🥰😍
Maple af, love DW
They're not sick they are very nice
Quite unusual to see a double bass setup with the rack toms both over the right hand bass drum. I like it though - very Ginger Baker esque!
great review...send me all your "old" tama kits LOL
The only time where tonewood is an actual thing. This kit looks sick as well.
Matt Gains I see you bro 💪❤💯
Any particular reason you don’t use the direct drive version of the bass drum pedals?
Metal Matt, beefy
Can you share any information about that ride? cause it is sick
Can we have more videos of you playing the drums
Hey Matt, sick setup! Has it been an adjustment tuning wise to get the kicks to sound the same?
No, and actually I feel like a slight variance is very musical
@@drummusician now you gotta mess with different size kicks like Morgan, Terry and co. :)
What cymbal stand does he use to hold the temporal stack 2?
Dudes YOLKED
What happened to TAMA I wonder?
Great gear, but , the tama drums its a level up.
Metal Maaaatt!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
fantastic setup Matt, congrats! But since you went to metal Matt setup that hole without 3rd rack tom is weird as f@k...but you seem to dig the sh+t out of it....😉 Amazing sound. what tom microphones are those? Thanks!
Can’t wait until you are in the Sonor family.Save the best for last.
Does anyone know if Matt muffles his kick drums or is it all a natual tune?
A DW pillow up against each head and those are very light dampening. Also I put two shirts in the bottom. With Tama I usually would put 6-8 shirts in, so I moving toward a more open kick sound but I still want that tightness🤘
Oh thank fuck. I thought he was gonna play them. Phew.
Was this kit used to record Monomyth?
🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
I'm buying the dual splash finallly breaking out into the Meinl world!!!!
3 different types of wood for 1 kit? Madness
You didn't mount the toms off of the bass because you didn't want to "choke" the bass drum, but the hi hat arm is attached to the other bass. Does that have any effect on the bass drum?
Super minimal compared to the weight of two toms and a ton arm hanging off of the main kick.
😍😍😍
What is that hi hat mount?
welcome to the dark side, Metal Matt
oh cool, we use the same snare stand.......
I would really love to know how much this is worth including all cymbals, hardware, drum shells and heads... I will definitely never be able to afford it but I am curious :D
I just got nearly the same kit priced without the second kick and a slightly different finish (still all the same shell wood choices) and the shell pack came out to $11,354 alone. The way DW works is they give you a base price for the kit as if you pick just the raw shell sizes you want and use their normal shell wood configuration (SSC), then charge 15% up on that for mismatching wood choices, and another 10% up if you don’t want the regular chrome hardware. The finish I got priced with is mapa burl to candy black fade with black nickel hardware.
Sooo what did you not like about Tama?
Dayumm
Dude! For the two left hand crash cymbals you should try a double Tom Stand with 9” booms and puppy bones on each arm. 🤘
Wooooof
I'll take your old [name redacted] kit since you're not using it anymore ;)
Wooohooo first!
Oh and btw Matt… gorgeous drums, sound great, but why’d you switch?
Just for conversational purposes as I'm not Matt and don't know anything about him and his decision to switch...
Perhaps he gets a better deal with DW and it might be easier for him to secure backline kits from them internationally when on tour with Animals/clinics. It could also have to do with his relationships with artist reps at Tama vs. DW. There's a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff that goes into an endorsement deal other than simply liking the gear.
@@andrewromanowski4290 oh ok cool.. didn’t know that thanks!
@@andrewromanowski4290 For some, that is the case but my switch was purely based off of sound and look. There is no change for me business wise, backline wise etc.
It was purely because of sound and look. I reached out to DW because I was so stoked with what I was hearing and I was not content with Tama. Some professionals certainly switch for business and practical reasons but that never entered my mind. I simply came to the conclusion DW had the best drums so I reached out to them and made the switch. The change of heat has been happening for some time now so I am sure it was not a rushed decision.
@@drummusician
Well that’s great to hear!(pun intended😂)
what model is it?
Did you leave Tama, or join DW? What’s the motivation for the switch? If appropriate for the masses to know, that is.
listen to the last 1 minute of the video
From Matt to John Petrucci. Yah it’s me again saying this. 😄
Why no rack?
The look of the drums supersedes the sound.
This kit has to be about $15-$20k
