Puppet Toon animation. Each frame is a different carved wooden face. Very labor-intensive if you are doing stop-motion animation. This makes it look so smooth and effortless. Today this can be done on a computer, but not when this film was made? Great stuff. The name Philippa Ray probably comes from the Philips Brand of electronic products.

Love this scene and the short its from. The tune is "Music Maestro Please" by Tommy Dorsey. Its a standard done by various artists, the closest I can find like this version is sung by Edythe Wright and can be found on youtube
