I grew up in Morgantown WV, his home town. I graduated from his high school as well. He was so well loved that they renamed University Boulevard, "Don Knotts Boulevard" after his passing. He was a great contribution to entertainment and a well loved character. It makes me proud to have grown up in the same environment and experienced the same small town life that he did. He was one of the greatest!
My father grew up with him. Don was 1 year younger. They were so poor back then doing whatever they could to survive. My father lost his dad in the coal mine. at 1 year old. I met Don at my fathers 40th reunion. What a cool guy.

In his home he kept a curio cabinet filled with all the bullets he was given by deputies and police officers from wherever he went. He was given many, and he kept them all. Nice man.

I'm an old guy, and saw IAMMMMW when I was 13. I took the bus alone twice to see it again in the next couple of months. I've seen it least annually since then. A couple of months back, it was avaialable on Amazon Prime movies but looks like it's no longer available. Luckily, I have a DVD to see, maybe today?

That is Andy and Don's first work together. But the video was poorly produced. My all time favorite! I called him the, "Good Humor Man" because he made my quiet and reserved father laugh his head off. The humor he had and those facial expressions couldn't be beat. You *COMPLETELY* left out how Don and Andy met on the set of "No Time for Sergeants". This is where their friendship started, NOT on the Andy Griffith show. Don called Andy to see if they needed a Deputy, and he liked the idea since Andy was already a fan of Don and his talent before they paired up for the Andy Griffith show. For those that never saw it, "No Time for Sergeants" is an excellent movie that showed what the producers had in mind for Andy's roll IN the Andy Griffith show. It was Andy's idea to play the straight man, when he had Don in mind for the roll as the deputy.
Mr. Limpet was a wonderful and memorable children's film. For us it was the best film besides Swiss Family Robinsin. Mr. Limpet used a lot of new surprising film techniques. It was great but we liked him in general. Barney is still missed.
It has an almost sad ending, though. When he says goodbye to his wife and George Stickle. "Tell them (the Navy) not to look for me. They won't find me."
I promise that the reruns of Mayberry will still be playing years from now! It is a type of show you can watch over and over and still enjoy it just about the same every time RIP Barney 😎😎
My absolute favorite Don Knotts movie was The Private Eyes. Rarely see it on the television schedule but he and co-stars had me rolling on the floor every time! He was an absolute joy!
I’m an Australian and I grew up watching great character actors like Don because our local TV and movie industries were in their infancy and we watched most of the early US Television series. Don had such a lovely gift of being able to ‘fall into’ each role he played. He was an incredibly gifted and funny man and I was greatly saddened to hear of his passing. Don and Andy had such a great symmetry and both were apparently great guys in real life. Wonderful memories of people that often were not recognized and appreciated enough before they pass. RIP and thankyou Don, you made this little boys childhood all the happier.
Well I am American , living in Kentucky. Australia had one of the most addicting shows I ever watched.. Prisoner. here it was called CELL BLOCK H or PRISONER Cell block H. It was so great. me and my sisters would watch it, but they only showed 3 seasons here. but I found it on youtube and watched the whole thing in about 6 months. wow do I miss that show!
Don Knotts was and still is my childhood hero. He gave me an escape from an often-isolated life as an only child whom didn't fit-in with the pro-sports mentality in my hometown of the late 60s and early 70s. I connected with his honest, struggling underdog persona, a common man always searching for the truth. The only comedian in the 21st century whom might do the Knott's legacy proud is Jim Carrey, yet I understood at some time around the turn-of-the-century Carrey was in negotiations to remake "The Incredible Mr. Limpet", for whatever reason that never happened. I always believed the original Knott's movie-run ended too soon. It would have been awesome to see Don's comedic take on updated PG versions (for the 70s) of "It's a Wonderful Life", "War of the Worlds" and "Easy Rider". Thank you, Don Knotts, for giving me the will to believe in myself.
I remember watching "The Incredible Mr. Limpet". I believe it was made ten years or so before I was born. I can remember watching and loving it. I do agree with you about Jim Carrey would be great for the remake of the movie. It's to bad that they didn't go through with it

I'm happy to have found this video. Barney is one of my favorite actors ever. I spent my teen years (my first years in this country) watching Andy and Barney and that lovely small town, which was such a symbol of American life to me. I wanted to live in a place like that. My town wasn't much different. I spent those first 6 years in Key West, Florida, a little town on an island 2x4 miles in size. At 10 pm it was so quiet, everybody going to bed after the news on TV. Now it;s completely changed and that atmosphere of what I call "Small Town America" is over. Now it's a tourist trap like Disney World ! But I will always be from a small town and keep Barney and Mayberry in my heart. I saw him in an interview once and he said he'd never gotten married He really kept his life private ! Thanks for all the good times, Mr.Knotts .
I so loved the Andy Griffith show,and all the actors. Barney Fife was a character you couldn't help but love. I remember the tough guy role,and he only had one bullet in his gun at any time. I laughed so much the years he was on the show. Andy was the serious guy,but barney brought that needed laughter to take your mind off life's challenges. Later I saw him making role appearances on Matlock, and that truly showed me how much they were friends and that just touched my heart. I still watch the re-runs of Matlock, Andy would have made a great attorney just like Perry mason,I loved them both deeply. Those were some excellent time watching those memorable shows. My deepest sympathy to Mr. Don Knott's family...he will forever be remembered.. Gone but never forgotten. :(

The Incredible Mr. Limpet. When I was a kid we watched this on the TV! I was a big Barney Fife fan and well I could not get enough. Years later when we got our first VHS this was the first tape I insisted my parents buy and played it till the tape broke. Thank you Don Knotts.

Griffiths willingness to take a back role on his own show I believe was something Ron Howard (Opie) learned. Years later on Happy Days, Howard willingly took a back role where he was suppose to be the main character and allowed Henry Winkler (Fonzie) to take a lead role. As with Andy Griffith, Howard put aside any jealousy other actors may have had and made Happy Days a long running success. The same can be said for Jerry Seinfeld who let his cast also shine, especially the role of Kramer and made Seinfeld a huge successful sitcom.
Years after Seinfeld had been off the air, he was approached with an idea to reboot it and he simply said no, because he didn't think the cast could be matched again.
The Andy Griffith show is still genius to this day , , , I wish every parent would make their 9-year olds watch this very family strong TV Series , , , I'm talking all the episodes , , , many ways it's patriotic and strengthens sense of community 👍👍👽
Two of my favorite movies are The incredible Mr. LIMPET and The Ghost and Mr Chicken. I watch them every time they come on TV. He was an outstanding actor and comedian.

When I was a kid in the mid and late 70's, The Apple Dumpling Gang came out and I remember getting to go and see it. For us kids back then that were the age this movie was meant to target, you just wanted and had to see it. I also loved in The Incredible Mr. Limpet. There are moments in the movie where he seems sad and alone and when I was a younger person, I remember picking up on that emotion and being both happy and sad for him. Sounds like he had a great life and was well loved. He made a lot of people laugh and smile and the universe will find a way to reward him for all the happiness he brought to people all over the world.
I doubt if the person who wrote the title had watched the video. It's often the way in these sweatshop videos: titler, script writer, reader, all different.
I've always felt that Jon Cryer of "Two and a Half Men" fame was heavily influenced by Don Knotts. Facile expressions, mannerisms and even some resemblance in looks. I don't know if that's so, but both of them are hilarious!

I'm old enough to remember him as the "nervous" man in the street on the Steve Allen show that pre-dated the Tonight Show. Of course, he was very funny.
Another guy who was a drill Sergeant was Whatshisname Ross, the landscape painter who had the instructional TV program where he'd create an entire painting in the course of each show.

Usually, that is special duty and not a career position but I am not sure what else Ross was in his career. The story I heard was PBS wasn't looking for a new show but he made an appointment with one of the bosses and went in and pitched himself and poof, we all got happy little trees.
The video ended awkwardly. What did his family confirm? That he was a ladies man? Anyway........."The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" was a very good movie. Truly scary at some points. When he sees the organ playing by itself.....and then later when there is someone truly playing it, are great moments!
The Ghost and Mr Chicken was my introduction to Don Knotts! Its a shame he is not so “popular” or “well known”, with my generation…as I was born in 1993 and am 30 years old. The Ghost and Mr Chicken was one of my favourite comedies growing up, I periodically watch it atill to this day! Don Knotts was incredibly funny. You just dont seen Comedians funny im that sense or way anymore. From his body language and mannerisms, down to his facial expressions, and iconic voice!!! Truly a legend, Thank you Mr. Don Knotts for all of the laughs over the years!!!!

Enough. Griffith and Knotts were in the movie No Time For Sargents where they had a scene together that was hilarious. I am not sure if they played these characters on Broadway. So, these two knew one another very well and were great friends before the Andy Griffith Show. This is so ridiculous.

TBK, Don left the show after season 5 because of something Andy said before the show began. I verbally agreed to do the show fir 5 years. It was thrn Don began his career in pictures. "The Apple Dumpling Gang" waa hilarious and he and Tim Conway made an hilarious team. Also, when he heard his good friend Andy was staring in his own shoe he called Andy and told him, "you'll need a deputy," and the rest, as they say is history!
I loved the Andy G Show. I still watch reruns on the Sundance Channel and cherish the memories they bring back. Don’s Character Barney was one of my favorite characters. Thanks for the memories.

Of course, The Andy Griffith Show was supposedly set in North Carolina, though filmed in California. Little known: The Mayberry Sheriff's Office displayed each current copy of the newsletter of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. And when Barney left the show, he "went" to Raleigh NC to be a detective, in the identification bureau of the NCSBI> (they didn't have detectives--they filed fingerprints.)
I was a huge fan of Don Knotts from the beginning. Yes, I watched Andy because of Barney. Saw all his movies when they came out. Then in the mid '60s I was at Universal with my family. I was walking from the parking lot to a restaurant nearby. I looked up and just 50 feet away was Barney. I stopped and waved to him walking towards me and yelled out Hi! Mr. Knotts. Heck, I was 12 years old and seeing my first actor. His response wasn't what I expected. Never saw his movies or TV appearances again.

I'm happy to have found this video. Barney is one of my favorite actors ever. I spent my teen years (my first years in this country) watching Andy and Barney and that lovely small town, which was such a symbol of American life to me. I wanted to live in a place like that. My town wasn't much different. I spent those first 6 years in Key West, Florida, a little town on an island 2x4 miles in size. At 10 pm it was so quiet, everybody going to bed after the news on TV. Now it;s completely changed and that atmosphere of what I call "Small Town America" is over. Now it's a tourist trap like Disney World ! But I will always be from a small town and keep Barney and Mayberry in my heart. I saw him in an interview once and he said he'd never gotten married He really kept his life private ! Thanks for all the good times, Mr.Knotts .
He made the Andy Griffith show. I missed him when he left to do movies. I still watch the reruns today November 7, 2022. I am 68.

I so loved the Andy Griffith show,and all the actors. Barney Fife was a character you couldn't help but love. I remember the tough guy role,and he only had one bullet in his gun at any time. I laughed so much the years he was on the show. Andy was the serious guy,but barney brought that needed laughter to take your mind off life's challenges. Later I saw him making role appearances on Matlock, and that truly showed me how much they were friends and that just touched my heart. I still watch the re-runs of Matlock, Andy would have made a great attorney just like Perry mason,I loved them both deeply. Those were some excellent time watching those memorable shows. My deepest sympathy to Mr. Don Knott's family...he will forever be remembered.. Gone but never forgotten. :(
I grew up every day watching Don Knotts and Ron Howard. I don't care what his lifestyle was. That show rescued me every day from a dysfunctional life at home. I loved all the characters.

The Incredible Mr. Limpet. When I was a kid we watched this on the TV! I was a big Barney Fife fan and well I could not get enough. Years later when we got our first VHS this was the first tape I insisted my parents buy and played it till the tape broke. Thank you Don Knotts.
When I was a kid, I loved Don Knotts on TV in all his roles and all his movies too. He was so funny and adorable.

Yeah I gotta agree with you. The character Barney Fife was so real it’s hard to believe he didn’t really exist lol. Don Knotts didn’t play Barney Fife he WAS Barney Fife. The Andy Griffith Show was the greatest show in television history. If I could live anywhere I’d want to live in Mayberry NC.
Loved this man! He was hilarious! A total hoot! I really thought he did a great job in "Mr. Chicken and the Ghost." Miss him.

Griffiths willingness to take a back role on his own show I believe was something Ron Howard (Opie) learned. Years later on Happy Days, Howard willingly took a back role where he was suppose to be the main character and allowed Henry Winkler (Fonzie) to take a lead role. As with Andy Griffith, Howard put aside any jealousy other actors may have had and made Happy Days a long running success. The same can be said for Jerry Seinfeld who let his cast also shine, especially the role of Kramer and made Seinfeld a huge successful sitcom.
Years after Seinfeld had been off the air, he was approached with an idea to reboot it and he simply said no, because he didn't think the cast could be matched again.

Two of my favorite movies are The incredible Mr. LIMPET and The Ghost and Mr Chicken. I watch them every time they come on TV. He was an outstanding actor and comedian.

When I was a kid in the mid and late 70's, The Apple Dumpling Gang came out and I remember getting to go and see it. For us kids back then that were the age this movie was meant to target, you just wanted and had to see it. I also loved in The Incredible Mr. Limpet. There are moments in the movie where he seems sad and alone and when I was a younger person, I remember picking up on that emotion and being both happy and sad for him. Sounds like he had a great life and was well loved. He made a lot of people laugh and smile and the universe will find a way to reward him for all the happiness he brought to people all over the world.

I've always felt that Jon Cryer of "Two and a Half Men" fame was heavily influenced by Don Knotts. Facile expressions, mannerisms and even some resemblance in looks. I don't know if that's so, but both of them are hilarious!

Another guy who was a drill Sergeant was Whatshisname Ross, the landscape painter who had the instructional TV program where he'd create an entire painting in the course of each show.

@@TheRealDrJoey Bob Ross but that was a little different, he was a TI which is the Air Force version of a drill Sergeant. Usually, that is special duty and not a career position but I am not sure what else Ross was in his career. The story I heard was PBS wasn't looking for a new show but he made an appointment with one of the bosses and went in and pitched himself and poof, we all got happy little trees.

The Ghost and Mr Chicken was my introduction to Don Knotts! Its a shame he is not so “popular” or “well known”, with my generation…as I was born in 1993 and am 30 years old. The Ghost and Mr Chicken was one of my favourite comedies growing up, I periodically watch it atill to this day! Don Knotts was incredibly funny. You just dont seen Comedians funny im that sense or way anymore. From his body language and mannerisms, down to his facial expressions, and iconic voice!!! Truly a legend, Thank you Mr. Don Knotts for all of the laughs over the years!!!!

Enough. Griffith and Knotts were in the movie No Time For Sargents where they had a scene together that was hilarious. I am not sure if they played these characters on Broadway. So, these two knew one another very well and were great friends before the Andy Griffith Show. This is so ridiculous.

TBK, Don left the show after season 5 because of something Andy said before the show began. I verbally agreed to do the show fir 5 years. It was thrn Don began his career in pictures.

Of course, The Andy Griffith Show was supposedly set in North Carolina, though filmed in California. Little known: The Mayberry Sheriff's Office displayed each current copy of the newsletter of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. And when Barney left the show, he "went" to Raleigh NC to be a detective, in the identification bureau of the NCSBI> (they didn't have detectives--they filed fingerprints.)
I was a huge fan of Don Knotts from the beginning. Yes, I watched Andy because of Barney. Saw all his movies when they came out. Then in the mid '60s I was at Universal with my family. I was walking from the parking lot to a restaurant nearby. I looked up and just 50 feet away was Barney. I stopped and waved to him walking towards me and yelled out Hi! Mr. Knotts. Heck, I was 12 years old and seeing my first actor. His response wasn't what I expected. Never saw his movies or TV appearances again.
