The Hollywood Vampires return with new music from their explosive second album, “Rise.” Rock and roll royalty Joe Perry, Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp and shock rock icon Alice Cooper join forces once again for the unmissable rock album of 2019.
Seconds into the opening track “I Want My Now,” it’s clear this supergroup has created something special - the chemistry between the individuals is unmistakeable when they come together on stage or in the recording studio. Forget the star-studded lineup’s individual reputations, “Rise” is some of the purest, unapologetic and most enjoyable rock and roll of the year, made by masters of the craft and true fans of the form.
Unlike their 2015 debut record, the new album “Rise” consists mainly of original material, written by the band. There are however, in the spirit of the Vampires’ original mission, three covers of songs originally written and recorded by some fellow rockers who died far too young: an intimate and intense version of David Bowie’s “Heroes”, beautifully performed by Johnny Depp; the late Jim Carroll Band’s “People Who Died,” and Johnny Thunder’s “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory,” sung by Joe Perry. Raucous rock anthems like “The Boogieman Surprise” and “Who’s Laughing Now” (the first single from the new album), capture the natural, raw, celebratory attitude of Hollywood Vampires displayed in their rowdy shows around the world. But the album shows off their range as well with tracks like “We Gotta Rise” - a tongue-in-cheek politics song in the the tradition of Alice’s “Elected” - to the psychedelic gothic epic of “Mr. Spider.”
“‘Rise' is not only a totally different animal than the first Vampires album, it is unique to anything I’ve ever been a part of. I approached it very differently than I usually do when working on an album. Each of us; Joe, Johnny, Tommy and myself have written songs on this album. What is different though is that I didn’t try to change any songs to be more "Alice-like." Because each of us has different influences, the sound of this album is very cool. I think that with this album, we are establishing what the Vampires’ sound really is, whereas with the first album we were more tipping our hats to our fallen rock n roll brothers.” - Alice Cooper

I’ve never seen Johnny let loose & laugh as much like this the past 3 years & I can’t begin to explain how this makes me feel. Seeing an innocent, “gentle” what his co-stars seem to reciprocate, and sweet man like this get ripped apart & scorned by the media for something he never did while in fact he should’ve been recovering-that thought within itself terrifies me. Idk how he did it. But seeing him now fighting for truth, looking better than ever & FINALLY laughing again just truly brings back all the hope I’ve lost. I’m so happy for him ❤️

I recently read a translation on twitter of a German interview with the Hollywood Vampires... it’s not a perfect translation but Johnny said something like “Drinking is an escapism and I don’t have to escape anymore.” He also said music is therapy to him and the reason he tried to cure himself with substances is because he was missing something in his life which was his first love, music. He had a difficult childhood and he said when he got his first guitar he locked himself in his room and just played, so you can imagine music was therapy for him then too. Johnny also said that when he became an actor he gave up on his dreams of being a musician cause he couldn’t devote himself to music anymore and he felt that he couldn’t just quit acting once he was successful at it. I think that Johnny was born to be an actor and play these amazing roles that he has but he was also born to be a musician and he’s incredibly talented at both, he’s a true artist. So I’m so glad that finally now he’s living his dream of playing music and I believe it’s really, really healed him so much, and I’m so glad because I don’t want to see him drink too much anymore or any of that. I’m so glad he has music to express his feelings and put his emotions into, and I hope he knows that he has so much love and strength from everyone that loves him. I just want him to enjoy himself and do what makes him happy cause after everything he’s been through he deserves nothing but happiness and love and justice. I’m so happy to see him smile!!

Alice Cooper, and Joe Perry - are great musicians who live and breathe music, take out music from them and they will die. JD's first love and still is, is music. Funny thing, I just discovered the Vampires two days ago, blew me away, there must be 300 years of experience in this band. Unfriggin believable to see such icons together. Johnny holds his own with them too, and his voice on Heroes is perfect. I think I'm ready for the Boogie Man Surprise. I am going to Rise to the occasion and take flight with the Hollywood Vampires. They are incredible live as well! I went to a HV concert last week and it was just amazing! Johnny's voice on 'Heroes' is just beautiful- my favourite song. These guys are legends in their own right, and to see them all rocking out together is fantastic!

I love these guys, grew up listening to Alice Cooper, saw him in concert, he was amazing, also Joe Perry grew up listening to him in Aerosmith with Steve Tyler, love these guys as well. Johnny Depp I love , and adore him, been a fan over thirty years, live in Toronto, Ontario, love to see him sing, and play with the Vamps, will always love this man, he is so amazing.

I didn't grow up in the 80s etc I'm a 98 kid but the last couple years mainly this past year 2020 , I've been listening to a lot of different 70s 80s bands, just found about these guys tonight, and I definitely will listen to more of them it sounds like they are bringing back the classic sounds I love it. 2 big rock stars and my favorite actor, imagine a few more other big 70s 80s guys joined for a night or something.
