Loved the Kathy Bates comp with Penelope Cruz. I didn't even think of that but she truly is an Oscar darling at this point. She got in for Nine for gd sakes. I may need to add her in my lineup
Here are my initial thoughts on the nominations. Charles Melton missing in Best Supporting Actor was not a surprise to me because I had feeling that it was a good chance of that happening. Sterling K Brown being in the Best Supporting Actor category at SAG was a delightful surprise. As far as Leo not being nominated for Best Actor, I have mixed feelings about this. The reason why I had mixed feelings about this was due to the fact that I did not rule out the possibility of them deciding to go with either Colman Domingo or Barry Keoghan over Leo. Was it a bad call, yes. Was I surprised about this decision, not really. The biggest shocker besides Sterling K Brown getting in for Best Supporting Actor was Poor Things not being nominated for SAG Ensemble.
Poor Things is Emma Stone’s movie more than an Ensemble imo
I should say, maybe I wasn’t as upset over these nominations cause I know what to expect from SAG. I knew they were unlikely to go for Past Lives or Anatomy of a Fall, even May December, despite all being personal favorites of mine and being in my top ten of the year. Once you calibrate to each awards body, they don’t surprise you as much.
Poor Things and Saltburn deserve a ensemble nom and no Jeremy Strong for Succession is crazy!!

I swear A24 screwed up not promoting The Iron Claw more. Zac Efron not getting a single nomination is just blasphemy. He literally gave the performance of his career and one of the best performances of the year and Iron Claw definitely had one of the best ensembles casts as well. If it was promoted better, theres no way that film would be getting ignored the way it has.
No Sandra Huller or Greta Lee is... painful.

I hated May December. I never got the Melton hype. Glad I’m not alone. I hope Domingo does translate into an Oscar nomination. I’m happy he was nominated here. I was not impressed with Ruffalo. I don’t get the hype for his performance. I was more intrigued by Defoe.
Netflix has a chokehold over these voters yet they ignored their best film smh

Charles Melton missing SAG and Bafta remind of when Andra Day got Golden Globe nomination and eventually won the Golden Globe and got nominated for Critic Choice but got snubbed at SAG and Bafta she still got nominated for the Oscar. I think that he could still get nominated. I really thought that Julianne Moore would get nominated for best supporting actress at SAG but I guess I was wrong. I really don't like that the minority of the cast of Killers of the Flower Moon is not nominated for best acting ensemble but the mainly white actors in the cast are nominated the exception being Lily Gladstone. Penelope Cruz is like Cate Blanchett who was nominated for Nightmare Alley but didn't get nominated for best supporting actress at the Oscars.
Charles Melton is done,I hope Leo still makes it at the Oscars I don't get why people think he is not deserving I think it's one of his best I hope he gets bafta,Fantasia has nada,no way she gets nominated
Really.. Dicaprio messed that movie frankly.. The only thing I disliked in KOTFM was Dicaprio playing Dicaprio as usual

WTF indeed. Sad about Saltburn missing. Haven't seen Ferrari, so maybe it's a very worthy performance, but it doesn't really matter as apparently Penelope Cruz gets nominated for pretty much anything she does. Not shocked about May December - Melton gives a lovely nuanced performance, but both female roles are so distasteful it's hard to appreciate the performances - they aren't villains you can sort of root for, they are icky abusers. It is NOT a comedy and if people watched it thinking it would be they likely hated it. Overall for me it seemed like a good made for TV movie. Surprised at DaFoe over Ruffalo, if only one was getting in I'd have bet Ruffalo. NYAD... sigh. Also I LOVED Barbie - but what stunts are they looking at?

They don’t like Asians in Hollywood, especially Asian males. So you can count those out. We all know John Lone should have won for THE LAST EMPEROR, but Michael Douglas did for FATAL ATTRACTION. 🤷🏻♂️
Ke Huy Quan won one, but where is he now?? Hollywood refuses to recognize Asian actors unless he’s doing kung fu 🥋so. Melton not getting a nom shouldn’t be surprising. And Greta Lee, ehhhh. What did she do in the movie that deserves a nomination?!? Oscars like showy grand performances, like Michelle Yeoh. But again, where is she now?!?? Back to doing some obscure Netflix movie that nobody gives a damn about?!?? Hiep Thi Le was incredible in “HEAVEN & EARTH,” especially for a first time actress. And nobody gave a damn. She was the leading actress in a film by a 3-time Oscar winning director, and immediately following that got the part of a maid, with a 30-second screen time in Cruel Intentions!!!!!!!

I think Bening is taking Mulligans' spot and Huller gets in too. I do not think all the nominees will be in best picture and Maestro seems the weakest.
The Oscars going woke if Lily wins. She would be a very disappointing winner IMO. I am all in on Emma!
