  • I don't usually go shelling two days in a row, but those Violet Sea Snails got me back for more!! I was thrilled when I not only found more of them, but also a bunch of absolutely lovely cowries and cones as well!! What a wonderful day out of the house, thanks for watching!

    Good afternoon, Maddie
    What a great, super low tide day. I love seeing the live critters. I think I have a first for me that I can remember that is the blood-stained cone. Very nice. So many cowries, the dwarf violet sea snails, violet sea snails, rams horns. The donkey cowrie is a cutie, cat cowrie, orange miter, orange drupe, music cone, Arabian, the snake-heads, and dwarf snake-head. The Eglantina is very nice. I also liked the ???? One. I really enjoy the shells so very much. I need as much to keep my mind busy. The purple shells I liked to learn it is a jellyfish that gives its color. You just make me, and I am sure others something to look forward to seeing and hearing your cheerfulness. I know it helps me so so very much. I am stuck at home and unable to leave even to check my mail unless it comes to the door. The nurse came today, and she said things are getting worse with my mom. So I can not say thank you enough for helping me through such a rough time in my life. I will watch your shelling adventures as long as you put them out there. I would love to go shelling. I told my husband that it is something I want to do. He was so shocked at all the shell piles in places. He is so wonderful and has learned to like more than a few things in life. Thank you again, Maddie 😊 Have a wonderful day 😊

      G'day Toni 👋🏻🏖️ I looove the super low tide days! It does mean that the tides aren't low now though... oh well! The Blood-stained Cone was really cool; this isn't the first, but they're quite an uncommon shell to find! Those Violet Sea Snails and Ram's Horns are supposed to be an uncommon and rare find too, but gosh, I was so lucky to find a heaps of them this time too! It makes me want to go back and search the entire open beach... even though it must be at least 10km long! Oh, the ???? one, I did potentially find the name of; it's English name is something like the Mysterious Velvet Snail. I can't remember the scientific name off the top of my head right now. Awww, I'm pleased that I can take you mind off the harder things in life. I really want you to be able to go out shelling as well. One day you will. Take care of yourself Toni, and thank you so much for joining me once again 🥰

    W O W! 🎉 What a beautiful cowrie day! 🎉 Loved the Isabella cowrie. Beautiful brown lined paper shell. 🐚🐚🐚 So delicate. My favorite was the orange drupe shell. Happy you were able to find more violet seashells 💜💜💜 and ram’s 🐏 horns. 🥰🥰🥰

      G'day Pam 👋🏻💖 This certainly was a wonderful follow-up day to my previous one with those huge Violet Sea Snails 💜🐌 Gosh, there was so much else to like this time too! The Isabella was a nice surprise, and the Orange Drupe too. Those Paper Bubble have been popping up like crazy over the last two weeks...I think all the live ones I saw have been eaten now 😅 I don't know how else to explain it?! I still see their egg casings in the rock pools though, so their numbers will boom again one day, for sure. Thank you so, so much for watching 🥰 I've been thinking of you; I hope you're stating to feel a little better since coming back from your trip 😨🏖️

      @SandCoffeeRocks  Před 11 měsíci

      G'day Alison 👋🏻💖 Now you have me wondering multiple things... multiple strange things... What would a sheep/squid hybrid look like 🐏🦑? Has anyone ever made a little sheep sculpture with actual Ram's Horn Shells? How would your tiny beach sheep even lose their horns?? So many things I didn't need to think about, Alison!!! 🤣 Oh yes, and a heap of wonderful cowries today too 🤩 I'm always so thankful of how clean and clear the water is; I have only seen it dirtied a few times from storms; not pleasant to walk through. It's a lovely beach for sure, but, believe it or not, there are even more picturesque ones around the place too 😉 the one I'm thinking of just doesn't have shells 😅🐚 Thanks for watching 🥰

    Wow Maddie , There's sooo many great finds today! You're making it very difficult to pick favorites.. Which is definitely a good thing 😊 My favorite is the Blood Cone! I bet that is stunning when it's cleaned up! Second is the giant Textile Cone! The fading gives it a two-toned look and I think it's fabulous 👌 Third is the big Orange Drupe! I just Love them orange, lumpy chunkers! 😍 I have to give a shout out to the Eroded Cowry. Very nice colors and markings on that one. Looks gem quality 👌 ✨️ Well, I think I'm all caught up now. I have to catch-up with Shellcade and SWF Beach Life now.. (about 10 more total 😅) Take Care Maddie! TTFN 👋❤️

      G'day Mimi 👋🏻💖 Oh my goodness, this was a nice day, wasn't it? I was really pleased with the lovely Arabian, but gosh, the Blood-stained Cone was the favourite for you today!! I think it will look mostly the same once it's clean... it just won't have so many pebbles in it, haha! Oh wow, the Textile Cone is also on the list of favourites, and then the Orange Drupe too! Wow, you really picked a bunch that I wasn't expecting; which is the goodest, most spiciest of variety? Yes. Wow, you really did catch up on a bunch after your trip! Once again, I am so pleased that you got home safely and found a bunch of lovely shells on your Florida trip! Thank you so much for watching the backlog, hehee! 🥰

    Awesome video Maddie. 1k75 and counting. I know about the deadly Blue Dragon. Seeing one live awesome. Favorites are big Textile Cone you gave away, Orange Drupe, Isabella Cowrie. Loved what you found. Take care please. Love and hugs Trudy

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  Před 11 měsíci +1

      G'day Trudy 👋🏻💖 Oh yes, it certainly is a steady increase, but the best part is having people watch and enjoy the videos 😁 For the Blue Dragons, they can be deadly, especially if they're feeling off of a deadly jellyfish like the Portuguese Man-of-war, or if you are allergic to the sting like some people are with bees, but generally, it will just hurt a lot. Luckily, these ones feel off the non-lethal jellyfish where I live, but I suspect they would be extremely painful like the 'blue bottle' jellyfish here. Oh wow, you liked that Textile Cone? I almost feel bad about not taking it with me now 🤣 but ahhh yes, the Orange Drupe and Isabella Cowrie was very cool 😎 I'm thrilled that you liked the shells I found, even though there wasn't any new ones today either. Thanks you so much for watching 🥰

    Hi Maddie, beautiful shells! Love the violet shells and rams horn. I agree the egglentina is my favorite. That beautiful blue sea dragon, hate to see it beached, not safe to touch or even move. Pretty little paper bubbles just love them alive or just the shell. Our school kids here recently just went back to school around the last week of August here and then the day after Labor Day for some of the other states. It was summer break. They say it goes way back in our history. The kids are on school break because of farming in the old days. After the farming was over they went back to school. At that time in history the kids were needed to plant and harvest the crops. Just an interesting piece of history. Anyway thanks for sharing Maddie. Sure would be a good idea for you to wear gloves. 😂 Sorry it's the mom in me.

      G'day Roberta 👋🏻🏖️ I am so thrilled to have found more of those Violet Sea Snails and Ram's Horns!! Oh but yes, the beautiful bog cowrie is always going to be the favourite in my heart too; I'm so glad that you liked it as well. Ahhh, so summer break has ended over there! The Summer Break for schools here starts in December and goes until the end of January... this was just a short 2 week break; but it's over now so the beaches should be a lot less busy! I don't know about the history of school breaks over here, but I like yours a lot; I wonder if something similar was once true here too! As always Roberta, thank you so much for watching 🥰

    Maddie, you really have a good eye for finding shells! Gorgeous ones, great variety and in really good shape! It amazes me how the bubbles and violet shells arrive on the beach perfectly! I think possibly your little thin, white shell ????? may be of the genus Vanikoro. Species helicoidea perhaps? Question: when you clean your cones and cowries, do you remove the sand in the shell's opening, or do you leave it? I have some beach shells with sand or stones, but it can be stuck really tight. Using a needle or dental pick will get some out, but I don't want to break the shell... anyway, love your videos, you find new shell surprises every time you go collecting!

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  Před 11 měsíci +2

      G'day Couch Conchology (sorry, I know I didn't use you name right last time!) 👋🏻🏖️ It was quite exciting to find these bubble snails and violet sea snails in the last two episodes. The bubble shells are delicate, but they live in the rock pools, so they don't get smashed on too many rocks when they wash up. The violet sea snails ride on top of the water, so even though they're delicate, they come in on the high tide over the rocks and stay relatively unbroken.
      Oh, I have also been looking into the white ???? shell too! Vanikoro is a good guess; I sometimes find Vanikoro Cancellata here. However, I believe that this one is possibly: Marseniopsis innominatus seashellsofnsw.org.au/Velutinidae/Pages/Marseniopsis_innominatus.htm or some similar species from within the Velutinidae family.
      Also, yes, I do clean out the stones from my shells! They shells are pretty hardy, but sometimes I might break a little bit of a lip on the crowned cones. The cowries are very tough to break, and it only happened once when I accidentally poked my metal pick through a sub-adult snake-head and make a hole through the thin shell. Of course, I'm perhaps a little more cautious with my really nice finds, but sometimes they need a bit of force to get the pebbles out. You can see a bit of the process here if you're interested: czcams.com/video/CPkKZ4inwY0/video.html
      Once again, thank you so much for watching another of my adventures 🥰

      @SandCoffeeRocks Maddie, I think your ID of the ??? white shell is spot on. I couldn't find much info on the Velutinidae except "circumboreal" in distribution, but that doesn't fit. However, the molluscs don't read the books (or check the internet) Ha. When I get the chance, I'll have a look at your sand extraction video. Thanks!

    OH MY GOSH!!! Those violet sea snails are called Jathinas, and the top is naturally supposed to be a lighter color of purple. If you look online, you will see that each jathina goes for almost 20 US dollars, (no idea how much in your currency) and the big ones go upwards of 30, if you find more, and you have to many you probably should sell them for a quick buck! If you are wondering, they are distributed all around the world due to them floating, in Sanibel, grease, Mexico, Australia, Japan, and almost anywhere. Keep your eyes peeled!!

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  Před 3 měsíci +1

      G'day Phoenix 👋🏻 Oh yes, Janthina is they're scientific name, and the English name is the much more boring sounding "violet sea snail" but there is nothing boring about these shells! I think you know a lot about them, my goodness, you certainly know you sea shells! I think I only picked up about a half a dozen with perfectly intact lips, and I did end up giving most of them away to friends. This was a really usual event (sometimes called a Blue Tide) where a lot washed up all at once! I haven't seen a repeat of this in almost a year now. I did hear that this Blue Tide even happened earlier this year in New Zealand, too! I'll keep an eye out for more, have no doubt! Ahhh, I probably won't sell them though; you technically need a permit to sell shells in Australia (just don't look at eBay or Facebook Marketplace) ahah! Thanks for watching, and for the info about online pricing; it's very interesting to know! 🥰

    • @Phoenix-LBS
      @Phoenix-LBS Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@SandCoffeeRocks hello! Yes the blue tide seems fairly like the one that happens here, in ten years I have never seen one my self. Also, I didn’t know you needed a permit to sell shells I Australia! 😅😅

      @@Phoenix-LBS I don’t think it’s well policed or investigated? Especially not for individuals, it’s more for commercial businesses, but shell collection like what I do is supposedly only for recreational non-commercial purposes. It probably wouldn’t be found out if I sold a few here and there, but I’d prefer to keep things above board. Also, this whole subject is quite hard to find information on; the Fisheries department regulations are not easy accessible or easily understood, but anyway!! That’s the gist of it. I hope you have your Blue Tide some day, but it really comes down to luck and the right location.
