2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric - Redline: Review

  • With the hybrid market seeing a slight decline over the years, Hyundai chooses an interesting time to introduce their first-ever dedicated hybrid vehicle, the 2017 Ioniq. With 3 different versions, the all-electric model offers up a usable 124 miles of range, fun-to-drive dynamics, spirited acceleration, and a roomy cabin. It's a must drive for those looking for an alternative to gasoline vehicles. Just be sure you're in California for now and Hyundai also plans to extend the range to over 200 miles for the 2018 model year.

    4:14 motors are rated by either horsepower or kilowatts. "Kilowatt hour" is a unit of energy.
    10:04 the "driveshaft tunnel" is present on most cars because it gives the unibody more rigidity.

    Great review, Sofyan! I just recently reviewed the Ioniq Hybrid, and I was pleasantly impressed with the space, safety, and value of the Ioniq.
    You did a great job displaying the features of this EV model. From one car enthusiast to another, keep up the great work, Sofyan! 👍🏽

    love this car and the color! Much cheaper than the Bolt and looks much better. I know the Bolt gives much more range but for me personally, my commute is only 15 miles round trip so it doesn't matter to me. 124+ miles is plenty to not have any range anxiety. I really want an electric car because with the mountain road I have to go over multiple times a day, the gas engine in my hybrid always kicks in so it'd be great to have a fully electric car where I can go as fast as I want over the mountain without a gas engine kicking in.

    • @givesyouthechills
      @givesyouthechills Před 7 lety +8

      Yeah but that mountain will destroy your range

    • @azera55555
      @azera55555 Před 7 lety +5

      True, it is quite irritating but with those awesome regenerative paddles, going on the downhill stretches, I'm sure I can get most of that range back.

    • @azera55555

      Fair point but it's a couple thousand dollars more expensive than the Ioniq electric and you're getting less ev range, not as clean looking an interior in my opinion, and no turn signal or power folding mirrors or power seats with memory function. In short, it's not as good of a value. It does have self-parking over the Ioniq but that's not worth an extra $5k.

    • @corystansbury
      @corystansbury Před 7 lety +2

      azera55555 But you're also getting unlimited range if you need it and a liquid cooled battery. Plus, auto high beams are very nice. It's not like anyone pays near MSRP for Chevys anyway.

    I picked up my 2017 Ioniq EV on a Monday in July 2020. Four weeks to the day later, it was in a serious collision. I sustained no injuries, so full marks to the side impact safety system. But just today it was written off. It's a great little car though, even if I may or may not ever get to own another.

    I'm trying to convince my mom to trade in her Elantra for this to drive to work and go around town. Honestly, I think 124 miles is enough for most people, but that range anxiety is hard to overcome. The plug-in hybrid Ioniq should be the best version.

    The range on this meets most peoples day to day needs. And the fast charging means it can actually go quite far with minimal downtime. This guy named Bjorn Nyland on CZcams does a 1000km test with them. The 28kw Ionic beat a lot of vehicles with larger batteries because of how fast it charges.

    Tell me how is it more fuel efficient then a Tesla model 3 310 miles of range per charge not 120 or the 35,000 220 mile range base model

      It is about how much energy is required per mile. This car is lighter than the Tesla and therefore needs less energy to push it around.
