Because we're Cleveland fans and we have to watch other teams and players accomplish athletic feats, cuz our teams sure as shit won't. Defensive pass interference in the NFL shouldn’t have the potential to wreck a game like it does, especially with how inconsistent the officials are when calling it, and we’ve seen awful calls for and against every team in the league. The NFL should adjust the penalty to be 15 yards instead of a spot foul

  • @gamerboy6787

    I swear, NFL refs do what I personally like to call "give back" calls.
    Let's say, early in the game, the refs make a horrendous call that gives Team A a huge advantage. The refs will tuck that play at the back of their minds, and later in the game, make an equally horrendous call that favors Team B this time, which "gives back" the advantage that Team A got earlier.
    I swear I've seen this play out time after time after time. A phantom Holding penalty out of nowhere late in the 4th quarter? A no-call on an OPI? Ruling what is clearly a fumble as an incomplete pass, saying that the receiver "did not have time to make a football move" before he lost the ball? Etc etc etc.
    Great vid, as always, sir. Thank you for all your hard work.

    The tragedy of the Galarraga Almost Perfect Game is Jim Joyce was considered a really good ref, both by other refs and players. And he publicly and tearfully apologized to Galarraga in person the next day, admitting he made the wrong call. I hope someday, before Joyce or Galarraga pass away, MLB listen to what both have asked them to do, and change the official outcome to a perfect game, as, like Joyce said: "he did it." It wouldn't change the outcome, as the next person grounded out, and it would correct a mistake that was known to have happened so soon after.

    The question isn't why people get it wrong, people make mistakes. The question is why the leagues ALLOW the bad calls to not be reversed. I have essentially stopped watching sports that choose to let these bad calls ruin games instead of reversing them.
    You say the refs don't have the benefit of ultra slow motion high def... but they do. The league just freely choose to NOt use it to make the calls. There is no rational argument as to why they did not overturn that call at first base at the end of the video. Zero arguments for keeping it that way. Hence why baseball is totally unwatchable.

    • @KAENCANE
      @KAENCANE Před 10 měsíci +2

      That play is from 2010. MLB has had replay review on calls like that since 2014. If you think baseball is unwatchable, that isn't the reason.

    • @big_dee33
      @big_dee33 Před 5 měsíci

      baseball is unwatchable now due to hot takes like this being the guiding light of the idiotic commish, that being said even tho there was no replay at the time umps are allowed to ask for help from the other umps who could overturn the call. no help was asked for at such a big moment and chances are if it was they wouldn't have done anything so as to not look bad. also MLB had the chance to reverse the call after the fact and STILL chose not to do anything...

    Refs should be more worried about getting a call right and less worried about their overly inflated egos. No one goes to a game or tunes into a game to watch the refs (not even his or her friends and family). Something has to be done about it, like a points system or something. Each call they get wrong gives them a point and then at a certain number, a certain punishment is dealt out to them or maybe the ones with the lowest points gets a reward, like a monetary bonus and/or getting to ref championship game(s) of their sport. Some think all calls should be reviewable but that would increase the time of the game substantially as each team reviews every single play.

    @3:12 those are not false starts under the current NFL rules. it is currently a grey area being abused by the best tackles in the game. You are allowed to shift your stance (your back foot specifically) without it being motion before the snap. Section 4 article 2 and item 1 of the official rulebook. Technically taylor is abusing a loophole in the current interpretation of that section. when in a 2 point stance you're allowed to shift into a 3 point stance or move your backfoot. if he moves the front foot it HAS to come to a complete stop before the snap, the backfoot however (which you see them kicking out wide) Does not have to come to a stop under the rules. he can shift as long as he doesnt move forward. The reason for them "flairing" or starting their kick step slightly before the snap is because it gives them a greater advantage against an edge rusher. it allows you to control more area and force the defender to have to go even Wider if he wishes to attack the outside edge (which is his job 90% of the plays)

    As a football official at a high enough level there are several things that come into play. The false start and line play deals with game momentu and wings fouling players , shelving motion and formations and signaling watch other. They need to cover both lines and have coaches on their ass… but most false starts are easy.
    I have 25 years of experience working for NFHS, NCAA and an NFL team .

    Why can't they put 2 referees up in the stands to review plays with instant replay and have a rule book next to them or on a computer so they can look up a rule if there is a ticky-tacky play they can always radio down to someone and say hey there was holding on that play or the batter was out he didn't reach the base in time? If they say it is expensive that is not a reason cause they have billions of dollars. You can't screw it up if you have 2 eyes in the sky reviewing plays it would help the refs on the field a lot.

    baseball has to be one of the hardest too because it demands fast calls and decisions. out or safe has to come quickly, Strike or Ball has to come instantly(though Angel still sucks).'
    I think in football they need to address roughing the passer differently, I fully grasp and respect they want to protect QBs from getting completely slammed like a motorbike dodging the crossing gate when the Acela is coming. But at the same time I think the rules need to consider Newton's second law of physics, Because that defense player is not going to stop and many times when they make this call you can see the dude is trying to avoid a full on ramming speed but these are not light weight players and they are not slow, especially when they are charging in for a sack.
    in simple terms I think sometimes what needs to be considered is impact compared to ball release, if the ball was just released that defender was already committed its like firing off an ICBM. You cant take it back.

    hey all these old ass refs are auditioning for their next jobs in the wwe. Also the only thing worse are judges in boxing! When I watch a big fight I just hope for a non garbage judging decision and about half the time I am disappointed!

    People talk about paying refs, but do you know the real reason why there's so much bad officiating? I bet you don't. The real reason why is because the officials have other jobs that arebmore important, they're only part time refs

    This explains some things, but I don't recall refs in the '70s blowing nearly the same number of calls as they do today. They certainly weren't perfect, but there wasn't a blown call nearly every play. The rules are too complex for the refs to officiate the game without some help, as though the rules were made with video technology in mind but then they forgot to use video technology to give them that better look. Sky Judge was the best innovation I've ever seen in officiating. I don't know if it was applied properly, but in theory it was exactly what the sport needed.
    I think the problem we're actually dealing with is that the NFL is an entertainment product, not a sports competition. At the same time, it is increasingly run by organized crime, so they have no qualms about rigging games in the name of gambling profits. This is why the league consistently relies on "judgment calls" that don't have to be evenly applied and cannot be overturned, regardless of the available objective evidence, to steer the outcomes of games. The last two SuperBowls have been determined by last minute blown judgment calls, and I wouldn't expect this to stop.
