Former German driver Ralf Schumacher has suggested that Sergio 'Checo' Perez brings a significant amount of money to Red Bull, allowing the team to pay the high salary of its three-time world champion Max Verstappen. In an interview with the Formel1.de portal, Schumacher said that Perez's stay at the Austrian team is crucial in terms of budget. Thanks to the sponsorships that Checo attracts, Red Bull can allocate up to $70 million a year to Verstappen's salary.
Schumacher stressed that, despite the tight budget limits at Red Bull, Perez's financial contribution makes it possible to keep Verstappen at the team. Furthermore, speaking to Sport Bild, the former driver advised Verstappen to consider a change of team for next season. According to Schumacher, the current conditions at Red Bull might not be the best for Verstappen to show his talent. Moreover, shining at another Formula 1 team would add even more value to his already impressive career.
Schumacher mentioned that the rift and power struggle within the team would be reason enough for Verstappen to consider a move, as proving his worth in a different team would reinforce his status as the best driver, and not just someone who wins thanks to the best car.
