      I feel pretty confident, even just the 3 Key things and the rundown of the geopoltiics might help several hours of ball ache. This was one of the trickiest to write, but the setup is consistent. Good luck! If you can get past these first 20 turns you'll have enough wealth to sport 3 armies and you'll feel in control. Hang in there!

    I have no idea why, but in my own Eltharion campaign, almost every evil-aligned faction with some strength in their numbers has declared war on me. It's insane. I thought the Nakari, Malagor and Wurzhag war decs were a lot, but then Morathi, Ikit Claw, Belakor, Tretch and some other random factions decided to declare war in a span of 10 turns. I'm on turn 50-ish and I have so many war decs. The Mist of Yvresse actually comes in really handy though. It's saved me from so many enemy invasions by causing a steady bit of attrition each turn.

What i found out is that if you do not replace the lord straight away and you wait in ambush stance they will attack you on the 2nd turn. This fight can even be autoresolved on legendary. The only thing is it will slow your progress on ulthuan by 1 turn. But doing it this way you dont have to rely on a battle that is 50/50 if you win. In WH3 you NEED melee infantry, unlike WH2. You simply don't have enough ammo to not need to get into melee at some point. In a 20 unit stack, not having at least 4 melee units in the early/mid game is inefficient. As Eltharion, every 3 archers should have at least 1 spearmen (remember his buffs) with hero support where possible. My channel's theme is typically showing you can have fun/balanced/no cheese/no spam gameplay and still dominate on legendary. Plenty of streams using melee infantry and cav in WH2 on Legendary too. honestly i retried this tactic 7 times and it only worked once
    1 somehow clan skyre would come to stormhenge and grief me just sacking my stuff or taking it over spreading me even thinner
    2 same with sartossa, but they also kill my ally to the west and ally with the skaven to grief me
    3 I'm always in the red and more often than not go bankrupt and die from attrition, Just one fight not going as planned is enough to ruin everything, one bad surprise and I can lose three settlements including my main one
    4 clan mors or the bad moons just spread across the badlands in two fronts with multiple armies that i can't defend against as if I go after one they hit a a base I'm far away from
    5 any potential ally i could have in the border princes, repanse or khemri get killed by manfred, ironbrow is busy fighting kroq gar, he usually wins but doesn't really come north to help with anything as he's also fighting tzeentch after he's done he so ignores me.

      Man it really sucks to hear people having a rough time with these campaigns. This was the early access version of the game so it does need an update. the best advise I can give is to get those fortress capitals then hold it down to get T3 walls up. After that point you'll have some solid traits on Eltharion from fighting in the Darklands. In Ulthuan you can now make the army there far smaller thanks to not having to fight settlement battles (changed since the original release)

      @@callisto1234 The biggest tip I can give is get mage towers up to T4 and get Fire Mages on Sun Dragons and Lore Masters. Get levels on that Noble with Eltharion and your heroes will do a lot of your heavy lifting for you. T3 Walls are key so you can raise a lord and some archers to take on a much stronger force.
      You don't really need to tech up to higher units as HE in a hurry. 5 Silverin Guard, 11 Archers and some support heroes/cav will handle the majority of threats until you face bulk armour.

      This was an older build of the game so it'll need an update at some point. Once you get Galbaraz consider getting a noble and landing that sweet replenishiment. There's a tonne of excellent lords to defeat there with Eltharion so getting T3 walls on your minor settlements needs to be a priority, but crushing enemies that get too close will give you excellent loot, captives and power up Eltharion's army like nothing else.

      @ElvenPlotArmour  Před rokem +1

      Thanks mate, you are *absolutely* correct that you should at very least defensive ally, as this will pull Tyrion into all your wars and create "heat" on him. Since you're likely to be aggressive as Yvresse a Military Alliance will be the way to go. High Elf outposts also generate influence which can be used to every few turns (let it cool down and lower the cost over a few turns). Aim to get Alarielle first and send an agent up to discover alith anar. If he's in a bad way, throw him a bunch of gifts so he can keep himself alive and some extra inf to get over 150. Hopefully you'll get him!
      Military Alliances, so far, have only do good things for my confederations in WH3. You need them to feel as threatened as possible and this also helps with that.

      This campaign is still on the harder end, but namely managing both starts with such limited funds is the challenge. This was by far one of the toughest guides to write. But the key parts are up to Turn 5, luring that army out and ensuring you can move and react as Eltharion.

      I've played through the first 10 to 20 turns a quite a few times now. The Yvresse mage is way better, rather it was fire but I can handle celestial - also has a nice special trait for better cooldown on top of a random trait. Honestly, we didn't get any trait, now we get two :)
      N'Kari is the real problem with the start now as it's a bit more random what it gets up to. I've been war decced by him as early as turn 8 with my Yvresse army just pushing up to Saphery, it's quite a problem.
      One thing I strongly recommend is getting a second arch mage at Yvresse with administrator and recruit some extra troops which way just about deter the pink one for a while. An early defensive alliance with Avelorn is a double edged sword as it makes it more likely that you get dragged into a war on your northern border.

      1. Win first battle and push on to Tralina (I play on V hard,/v hard) and take that.
      Recruit administrator, best one available
      2. Skull crag always pushes troops to Yvresse, your new arch mage is close enough to take them with support from the main army which should be able to reach them. Force march to support if not
      3. Stealth your main force to the bridge before Elesai and dangle your new lord as a carot - they always seem to bite
      4. Seige Elesali - they send another force to attack - this is a tough battle, probably hardest of this starting approach - winnable and you can get Elasali without doubling back
      5. Take Elesali - Should be able to finish Skull Crag and push to Saphery by turn 8. Take the administrator back to Yvresse and get recruiting whatever you can afford if N'Kari finishes off Cothique quickly

    Is there a reason why you use gifts instead of influence to gain favor with the beastmen, like is there a hidden benefit to gift vs. using the court ? ( I noticed you were strapped for cash but swimming in influence, but still used gifts. )
    Also ( a bit unrelated, but I think you stopped answering questions to older vids ) : what do nobles gain from being on foot ( as a line holder) vs on an eagle ? When I check out the stat changes it’s mostly just increases when on an eagle mount ? Are there some hidden buffs gained when on foot ?

    • @ElvenPlotArmour
      @ElvenPlotArmour  Před rokem

      Gifts are appealing if they're cheap to use. Remember, influence does increase with sequential uses and/or if the party is opposed to what you're trying to impress on them. Given influence can be used for interactions or better noble skills it's best not to waste it and balance with cheap gifts (say under 1000).
      Nobles on foot provide a solid lineholder and protect your weaker elves who can struggle to deal damage back against certain enemies. Enemy heroes will beat you up and are hard to land arrows on. A noble guards the frontline and checks these units. Only against artillery heavy armies do I ever mount them. They plug a whole in the roster's weakness when on foot wheras it's easy just to hire a phoenix or dragon to do the same thing.

    • @ElvenPlotArmour

      Mistwalker units are powerful, but they are expensive. Being completely honest, even in WH2 I would really only take them in Eltharion's army for this reason as a default, but you can use them in other armies. Sentinels of Astaril are stupidly cheap for any army and among the best HE units, period. Faithbearers are a bit expensive, but this *finally* gives the HE a devastating sword unit. They're very good against strong infantry (like orcs). Spireguard have tonnes of ammo, so fit well into a half stack. Knights of Tor are expensive but make any can make any High Elf army stronger (another elite HE unit). By the mid game asside from Silverin Guard and heroes, Eltharion's army should be entirely mistwalkers. He is, no doubt, the best general the High Elves have. Go majority Sentinels with 4 knights of Tor, max Hand of Glory and this army can take on multiple armies/settlements relentlessly. If playing for efficiency though, you can use them for non-LL's but they aren't an auto include. You need to consider what this army will be doing. Correctly assigning the right mistwalkers for the job will give you some efficiency.
      TLDR: Eltharion's core units, but just a couple of support units for non-LL until late game

      Unfortunately no. I only really use them with Eltharion thanks to his direct buffs, but he makes them excellent. His equipment plus x2 points in the spell makes Hand of Glory cost only 2. Apply this continually to a Sentinel of Asteril and they'll really help take down that concerning unit from great distance. Hand of Glory is a forgettable spell made strong with Eltharion when applied to devastating ranged unit with a very low rate of fire (Sentinels). This unit should be the core of your lategame army with a couple of Knights of Tor in the wings. Eltharion, I'd say, with his optimal army is quite probably the best HE general with replenishing ammunition. I'd still consider a handmaiden, but use the snare ability instead, to pin an enemy from afar (ride out on a horse) then snipe them.

      @ElvenPlotArmour  Před rokem +1

      Ok, I had a revisit of this in the latest patch. His starting armies are actually very good. High Elves typically want 4 spears on the corners and another in the middle. Use the Faithbearers in that central role and now just hire archers. If you capture a stable, hire a unit of Reaver Archers, but High Elves are a defensive army and only need a couple of mobile units to handle artillery that outranges their archers. In WH3, the biggest change is "Whatever number of melee infantry you brought in WH2, bring 1 or 2 more in WH3." I made this mistake for a while and this change was a night and day change for me. Check out my "8 Unit Types" video and "Formations" videos for some effective setups which work well with High Elves. 5 spearman/silverin to hold the perimeter and 11 archers/sisters is a setup that works the entire game.

    wrong skilling in the blue line (u go 3x Merchant Lord on all LL and generic non-casters and 3x "Elven Scholar"). 9% trade resource production + 25% research per high level lord? Yea, totally wanna take upkeep. THAT U DONT NEED!
    3x Merchant WILL outshine the 3x Quartermaster.... quickmath pls (duh; factionwide vs local effect).
    No need to kill 2nd Silverin Guard, lol. U dont look for Fire Mages, but u are right with Incendary trait on Mage Lord. I would argue to go for another Lord that is Prince / Princess for that sweet boni above. Imo, best lore for HE is STILL high magic, especially now. So get a "Incendiary" High Lore Caster Lord for 2nd army and prince/ess for 3rd army. Do not get too many Archmage Lords, they dont have Merchant Lord and Resarch skill nodes (probably oversight).
    quick sum up: Eltharion takes Badland, u want to spend the 120 Influence instantly on 2 Lord, one mage for home defence and one prince/ess for ambush trigger.
    in early game (< turn 40), u have 2 full armies, Eltharion and Ulthuan mage army, and 2 single Lords for ambush trigger.
    Get Trade Agreement and Defensive Alliance ASAP. Border Princes are your first target. Ally with everything ASAP, build Outposts everywhere ASAP.
    Ulthuan Army doesnt need any units recruited. Ally with Alarielle and Tyrion and set "defend target" to your second Lord. Now u can take Ulthuan ez.
    Eltharion's Army can get rank 9 spearmen really fast (u first tech spearwall + the next tech, not anything else), if his army is full switch him out to get him back to Yvresse. You want to have a full mistwalker army with eltharion (even though he doesnt need an army).
    Everything u battle manually, u win with only 1%-10% entitiy loss. If not, rematch. *snip, u know how to play*
    Now its turn 30ish, u own Ulthuan+Badlands, have nearly all LLs (curse u teclis) and u won. Congratz. Also u are the UN.
    Dont say perfect if it's not even remotely. It's good, yea.
    Protip: Use confed army (or other useless lords) to smash against anything with a char. ~50% u can auto-resolve to get a prisoner, doesnt matter the outcome.
    Another one: Galbaraz's unique nobles asap. Only ever recruit max influence lords/ hero. No idea why ppl always want u to recruit shit.... wtf. Dont use Nobles for influence farm, that's a trap now. Use them to bolster ur mage armies.... more nobles = more money btw -> Merchant Lord.

    • @ElvenPlotArmour
      @ElvenPlotArmour  Před rokem

      I appreciate the time taken to share insights but there's a couple of points that don't quite add up here in my mind. First up, I agree the increased tradables is excellent and a definite, but not until later. This is on Legendary difficulty, if you get ambushed and lose your main army it's autosaved disaster with no rematch nor reload from a safe point. You can opt not to use Wary for ambush defence, but in the Badlands with Skaven and Beastmen everywhere, Wary is insurance on your greatest asset (your main army).
      I also agree with Eataine & Avelorn defensive alliances as well nobles no longer needing to obscenely farm influence and bolstering tradables is VERY underrated. The art of trade and diplomacy is the true mastery of HE imho, so nicely done. HE outposts are amazing, agreed.
      Now the points I'd like to contest. x3 Quartermaster does not compete with Merchant (unlocked after personal tree) and is necessary to get Feared and Renown. Lowering the upkeep of your main army is a factionwide benefit in all but name.
      Your strategy to disband in Ulthuan and focus down south is absolutely sensible on paper, but this being an "optimised run" means maximising both territories early to get to defensible borders so you can then calm, hold and develop these holdings with less military cost. I invite you to test as I have (on Leg/VH as this slows expansion) and this method simultaneously secures both territories rapidly by turn 20 with strong income thanks to ports (which your choice to not expand immediately unto Ulthuan forgoes), and fund a 3rd army comfortably.
      High Elf research buffs simply are not needed. The early research for spears/archers is vital, but their lategame units already come highly trained and don't need research buffs. There are very few techs that will have any meaningful change after this, many of which only take 2 turns to unlock anyway. Unless you're doing disband/cheese, there is no reason to hire Princ/ess for this reason.
      The High Elf Arch-mage is the gold standard for Non-legendary Lords. No amount of Princ/ess buffs can compare to the power of magic and Lores of Magic are matchup dependent and low level fire is unmatched vs greenskins and an appropriate choice here. One Incendiary Mage is nice, but I really discourage using all your influence on lord traits. It's their magic, not their trait that wins battles.
      Hero traits are a far better for your campaign and being honest, the lord trait impact is meager on the battlefield compared to the factionwide.
      You have some great incites, but I respectfully must point out most of your criticism is directed at tactics suited on Leg/VH where you must manually fight and over deliver with less replenishment etc. This disparity is enhanced by the fact the autores is overtuned like crazy on all difficulties. On Normal, some of the liberties can be made, but this is one of the most demanding starts (keeping both territories) and it's a rough early game which needs all big guns!
      Please view this as me explaining tactics that appear to be considered 'incorrect' rather than being dismissive of your playstyle which is clearly bringing you success.

Yea, u right on the Research skill in blue line, well it's unique. but the current research of HE doesnt make it necessary, although the second effect is not un-nice. So, even better synergy with upkeep reduct + trade buff in blue line. It's like killing stones with birds, or whatever ;)
      Traits do impact ALOT, it's not tangiable at the start, but it ramps up insanely. Losing that trait is also hard. But getting influence is ez pz, so no need to hold back those sweet 120 influence at the start. On the magic LL, yea u want their magic. But u also want an impactful Lord. Icendiary is just a plain upgrade to battle wizard for any HE caster lord. Are there better option for your mage lord? No. U dont want to have non-battle wizards leading your armies. At least I can't think of any trait worthy for the archmage lord type. My suggestion was to get a high-lore mage lord in your second army (on Ulthuan), since it's a solid choice and extremly versatile. Only sad thing about the mage HE lord: no merchant skill in blue :(
