    Thanks Ealan. Another great video. I just bought some Emotiva Airmotiv A1’s since the rest of my system is now Emotiva. They unfortunately weren’t the best performers from your video but glad they weren’t the worst either. I’m coming from much cheaper Sony SSCSE Atmos speakers so I’m sure it’s a decent upgrade regardless. Looking forward to your upward firing vs on-wall vs on-ceiling comparison!

    Great video and yes can’t wait to get your view on placement. As my wife hates to see speakers I am actually installing a shelf behind my TV for the upfiring speaker hidden behind the TV. May not be optimal but still works. Btw the Klipsch go on sale frequently and are below 300$ vs the other options are 500$ plus. For many that will matter a lot especially for those speakers 6 and 7

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  Před 7 měsíci

      @@laatinable Honestly, it should be your ultimate goal to have everything timbre matched. But if money is an issue, having Atmos speakers that are a different brand is going to be fine for awhile, since Atmos effects are typically going to be fairly subtle and atmospheric. It’s the ear level speakers you would want to all be timbre matched sooner than height speakers. 👍

  • @csimet
    @csimet Před 6 měsíci

    My issue with all of them is radiation pattern when placing them on top of your front/rear speakers... if it is wide or even medium-wide, then by the time the sound goes up, bounces off the ceiling and reaches your seating position, it has lost so much energy (dB) they become lost in the sound field. No real noticeable direction... it just seems kind of "up there."
    I'm experimenting with mounting them on adjustable wall stands high up so that they are only about 1-2 feet below the ceiling, still pointed up. Less initial distance to the bounce and should keep the pattern tighter once it reaches my seats. More focused with less distance to travel. The brackets allow me to fine tune the direction. Mounting them directly to the wall is suboptimal because you can't angle them very well, if at all, from their designed placement angle.
    I don't want or like the look of ceiling speakers, so mounting them on the ceiling or getting in-ceiling speakers is not an option for me (and many people).

      Tough call. They are just…different. I personally like SVS’s sound better - more neutral, airy. But I also don’t have any experience (yet) with any of Klipsch’s more expensive RP line, which is on par with SVS’s Ultra series. So they’re neck and neck in a lot of ways. But one thing to consider is SVS’s unrivaled customer service, since they’re still small enough to give you a truly personalized experience. Food for thought. 😁🤘

  • @keef78

    So if you stuck the svs elevations to the wall with velcro how well did the bass port work? as the speaker is meant to be away from the wall on that bracket. Did having it flush to the wall mess with the sound any? And how strong was the velcro hold for these speakers? I'm considering it but a tad worried they'll come crashing down.

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  Před rokem +2

      The SVS Prime Elevations were the only ones where I couldn't velcro them directly to the ceiling because of that bass port. I had to carefully velcro the bracket to the ceiling, then slide the speaker in the bracket. Pretty sketchy, honestly, but it worked long enough for the tests. I wouldn't do that as a permanent solution, though. 😄 All the others, though, I would trust heavy duty velcro to hold them for a long time, given their design.

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  Před rokem

      In-ceiling speakers are all roughly similar, so there are plenty to choose from. Although one design style I’d highly recommend is an in-ceiling that is angled inside the housing. Not the kind where just the tweeter swivels - no - the kind where the entire speaker is angled, so you can install it in a way where it’s pointing at your listening position, not just shooting straight down. Like the Clearus 8” or 6.5” speakers from Aperion Audio, for example. 👍

  • @NickkaDUB
    @NickkaDUB Před rokem +1

    I think you should probably watch Andrew Jones talk on his Pioneer concentric driver speakers 🔊 and why he went with that design.
    These speakers are small and therefore the speaker response isn’t really relevant.
    You have to understand that the bass travels a lot slower than the mids and treble so when you don’t go with the concentric drivers, it’s going to muddy the sound in a reflection setup. You need the sound to reach you at the same time.
    I’m not being rude. I’m just explaining how it works.
    So if you’re going on wall/in ceiling etc, then you would want the normal separate woofer and tweeter, but still keep in mind that even if you set your Atmos crossover it’s still only going to produce what the engineer cut off the frequency at (unless you are using the virtual Atmos setting where it’s upmixing to Atmos from say normal 5.1 or 2.0 etc).

      You could mount it on the ceiling if you’d like. But in the interest of time (and not wanting to put holes in the ceiling) I didn’t. Here in Canada the Prime Elevation costs about 2x more then the Klipsch R40sa. 400.00 vs 800.00 roughly. So my question is this. Would you feel the prime elevation is two times better? Would be great if you had a rating scale for each speaker out of 10 standalone and in concert with the whole system.

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hmmm…yeah, since the Prime Elevation was the best out of this group of speakers, I’d give it 10/10. But the Klipsch would probably be 6.5/10, so in concert with the rest of the system, it would still be a good choice, since the brunt of the audio is still going to be your front LCR, and more subtle effects reserved for the heights. 👍

How many Klipsch owners do you see on all these forums saying, "Look at my (insert Klipsch model here) and how they are 98db sensitive compared to (insert model here of other brands) and their 92 dB sensitivity...
